Sully...first off...I'm sorry about the "dunce" reply....I meant to put a smiley in there...but I forgot they don't work for some reason on my laptop...I have to put it in the "old fashioned" way and clicked reply too soon.

I don't think ANY Met fan posting here has claimed that the Mets are the best team in the MLB. I certainly have not...but I agree with EWR in the fact that the Mets are in the PLAYOFFS(read: NOT the World Series!) and have a good a shot as anyone else who makes it there.
Some people have it as a given that as soon as the NL team(whoever it is) meets the AL team in the Series.....it's over....put the champagne on ice in the AL locker room. I seem to remember that happening before...let's see...what year was that.....hmmmm....can someon help me out here?...


cjones....I agree and disagree with you on Milledge for Zito. Part of me says we should have pulled the trigger. A relatively young lefty that has proven he COULD be a winner for an unproven prospect....but on the other hand...if Zito tanked and did not resign with New York....and Milledge goes on to greatness(I'm seriously having my doubts on this one!).....it would be a disaster. Kazmir and Milledge for basically nothing.(I know Minaya had nothing to do with the Kazmir trade...still hurts though!)

The way I see it....this is like '84/'85 for the 2006 Mets. The prime pieces....Wright/Reyes/Beltran and I'm loving Maine lately! are there ala...Gooden/Strawberry/Hernandez and we just need some fine tuning....like shedding the aging "star" ...Foster/Floyd(although I really like Floyd and am sad to see him having such a terrible year) and bringing in guys like Carter and Ojeda....so if they don't win it now......I'm still happy with the good season and good things I see from these Mets!

The '86 Mets had Doc, Ron Darling, Hawaiian Sid, Rick Aguilera and Bob Ojeda. Everyone in that rotation was 25 or under except Ojeda at an elderly 28. What a staff.

I wasn't even born at the time but really amazing staff. I think that could be the downfall of this Mets tema in the playoffs, the rotation.

I didn't mean the teams parelleled eachother in the terms of talent position by position....but rather the '86 team had two/three young players as a talent base(Gooden and Strawberry) and by adding the key vets(Hernandez,rounded out the championship squad and to me this squad is in the same position to do that.
The 2007 Mets IMO need at least one starting pitcher a second baseman(Valentin has always been a good player though) and a corner outfielder(I think Milledge will be fine and platooning him with Chavez, who is totally impressing me this year will be adequate)
I remember being in a bar watching the Cardinals dash the hopes of the '85 Mets(friggin' Tommy Herr!) and while disappointed, I realized that the team was going to be something to be reckoned with. I get the same thing watching this team. A few more pieces....just a few.....

yikes.. comparing Floyd to Foster??? please say it aint so... Foster was a usless waste when he was with the Mets.. & when he was "dropped" for Mazilli in 86 he cried racisim... Floyd has been nothing but hustling- his-butt for the team.. of course, I had Maine on my fantasy team & he sat the pine as well today ... Phillies have been playing some good ball ever since the trade of Abreu.. just wonder where they would have been if they played like that the whole season..

ps- the Straw comes back to Shea!!!! Aug 19 to celebrate the 20 yr anniversary

You can point out strengths and weaknesses all day; doesn't mean much. All that matters is the Mets winning the NL and taking that home field advantage.

No no....just pointing out the similarity of losing the LF. I really like Floyd as a player....and did not like Foster at all.
