Good point. Larry Moores is as much to blame or moreso than anyone.

I am sorry, I am just tired of the mediocrity.

A little correction there bk, it's John Moores, but that really makes no difference.

It's frustrating actually that Moores wouldn't open his pocketbook a few seasons ago and now it looks like he won't be doing it again as he's a firm believer of the debt service rule or whatever that rule that MLB has where a team has to pay a certain amount to be shared among the other franchises' payrolls if they go over it and he is abiding by it.

Money in the offseason and there will be players that can help this team and one a big maybe if the Cubs choose to not keep him. But being the typical Padres should we expect anything more than the yearly signings of the Geoff Blums, Doug Brocails, and Shawn Estes' of the world? I'm inclined to demand a bigname free agent signing, but the Padres have no history whatsoever when it comes to signing a big-name free agent who is in the prime.

Hell, if we had a general manager who is willing to improve the team and an owner willing to open his money bags to improve the team, I'd be all for it. A GM who can trade guys before it's too late (Linebrink is fizzling fast, Ben Johnson's stock was probably the highest before this season, etc). I know it's hindsight when it comes to trading guys or not trading them, but this team would be in a better direction had they opted to trade Linebrink for Wilson Betemit. Good relievers will have a couple of good years, then stink for a while and when you have a chance to get a everyday player out of a setup man, wouldn't you take the trade?

It boggles my mind why the didn't do that deal, we've got a few good arms in the pen and KT's forte is finding relievers at the right time... usually.

But as Peavy said earlier this season about all this disappointment, "What can you say? We're the Padres."

Colletti makes moves at the trade deadline, acquires Maddux and more infield depth, the Dodgers go on a 17-2 streak. Your GM Towers doesn't, the Padres lose hold of their division.

Your microcosm of the season right there. We're heading on a 9 game NL-West roadtrip starting tommorow at SF, so we'll see how this turns out.

Correction, our GM fails to make the right moves.

Releasing Vinny Castilla would've been the right move, if they already had a third basemen in mind to replace him. That didn't happen.

Trading a set-up man for an young, everyday third basemen would've been the right move, but they felt that Linebrink would hopefully rebound and was worth more. Instead the third basemen is already traded and the only thing Linebrink is worth now is a lefty starter with a 10-million dollar arm and 10 cent brain and a no-name reliever.

Trading for Todd Walker did not right those wrongs, but I"m not surprised. Towers is good at finding relievers, but bad at everything else while making excuses of it. He also managed to screw up the chemistry on this team by releasing players but at the same time not showing the players that they're even thinking about improving the team. While Castilla hasn't hit, his defense would at least save us from at least three losses with all the errors his successors have made.

But it's the Padres we're talking about, what more can we expect other than things always turning out bad?

First place again. Nice series with the dodgers so far. We need one more tomorrow. I like the signing of Wells, at least management made a move that could possibly help us to win some games in the playoffs once we get there.

4 - 1 through the first inning so much for the idea this game would be a pitchers duel. Are all the outfielders blind or are they afraid off getting hurt by the outfield wall. Peavey about to fight the first base coach; should be a good game.

Could be a potential make-or-break game for both teams as evidenced by the see-saw action we're seeing here tonight.

Makes for a better season series closing game IMO.

It appears to be your ballgame considering Hoffman hasn't blown a save in 5 years against LA.

Blew alot of RISP opportunities, and negated some clutch hitting, but I couldn't ask for a better final game. There's enough time to make up ground hopefully.

The Dodgers bullpen has to meld together. And clutch situations have to improve. I still want a down the wire finish.
