I can't beleive we lost tonight. So far since we traded for Gange he hasn't been as good as he was with the Rangers. And it seems like Francona has completely forgotten that Manny Delcarmen has been great lately and refuses to bring him in.

Re: Boston Red Sox: 2007
Going into this series with Baltimore the Red Sox had only lost 1 game when leading after 7 innings....thanks Gagne.
Though to be more realistic, Gagne was overthrowing to Tejada and couldn't locate his fastball. After Tejada's homer, he started pitching and retired the next two guys. Gagne was never successful because he could blow hitters away with his fastbal, he was successful because he has a devastating change and curve to go with his fastball. To Tejada he threw nothing but fastballs. Tough way to learn a lesson, but hopefully he takes something away from today's game and settles into the set-up role where the Red Sox need him.Comment

Re: Boston Red Sox: 2007
Just a microcosm of the season in that 9th inning. They set themselves up to win/tie but can't come through in the clutch. Lugo in second with no outs and they can't bring him in with the top of the order coming up. Youkilis has been killing them lately and Manny's average in close and late situations is .151. Yuck. Good thing Mike Lowell continues to have a strong year.Comment

Re: Boston Red Sox: 2007
Per Wiki...
He was drafted, at age 20, by the Boston Red Sox in the supplemental first round (42nd pick) of the 2005 draft. Other teams passed on him because Buchholz had been arrested for stealing 29 laptops from his high school and selling them."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Boston Red Sox: 2007
Three of the worst losses this season have occurred within in the last week. And at the center of all 3 was Eric Gagne. How long until we hear about some phantom injury that forces Gagne to the DL? I'm saying another week, week and a half. Some criticism can be thrown at Francona too for pitching Papelbon in the 9th inning in the first game with a 4-run lead instead of saving him for Game 2.Comment
