Dice K look great against the Pirates yesterday. I belive he pitches again on Monday against Cincinatti.

Do you guys really see the Sox going after Arod if he opts out his contract? I believe Lowell is in his final year of his contract. that's 9 million off the books. Youk seems to be happy at 1st.

Looks like Papelbon might be the closer again.

Rotation will probably be Schilling, Dice-K, Wakefield, beckett and...hm. Who knows. That's a good question.

Probably Tavarez and Snyder until Lester is ready to go.

I think Snyder would be 1st choice, but Kason Gabbard has also had a very solid spring and could be a dark horse.

I think it would be Snyder because we would lose him if he doesn't make the team. I think with Papelbon moving back to closer, this mean the Sox would pursue Clemens more harder now than before.

According to Gammons, it's Tavarez who will be the 5th man. It's kind of a reward for his September and they also feel the added focus and pressure of being a starter brings out the best in him. We'll see how it works out. I don't undertand how he can be a successful starter with basically only 2 pitches but Lester and Gabbard are behind him and I think both guys can contribute to a major league club. Snyder will likely be in the pen where he could be pretty decent given that he has a capable fastball and a dominant curveball. Donnelly and Pineiro will likely be the primary set-up men with Romero and Okajima mixed in to get lefties out.

                  This according to Gammons' blog...

                  • If Julian Tavarez doesn't cut it as Boston's fifth starter, in the interim before Jon Lester is ready, don't be surprised if Devern Hansack isn't given a full shot at the rotation. "He's got three above-average pitches and no fear," says one Boston official. "He might end up as huge surprise." The other surprise with in Red Sox camp has been the guts and command of lefty Kason Gabbard, who is pitching well this spring. And in the last week they finally believe Craig Hansen is starting to re-discover his delivery. Another pleasant surprise has been J.C. Romero's control and command of three pitches. "If Romero throws strikes," says an Angels coach, "he will get people out. He just didn't throw strikes last year for us."

                  All good news to me.

So Whose the BoSox OS fan base this year? I know we have myself, Cam, Misfit, GBrush, and BostonSportsRules. Who else?

Romero had a great spring until yesterday. That was a horrific 9th.

I'd like to see more of Hansack. Preferably it would have been during the spring but apparently NESN didn't think he was a big enough draw to televise any of his starts. I liked Gabbard last year and I think he can pitch in the big leagues. He's no ace by any means, nor do I think he ever would be, but he has decent stuff for a lefty and throws strikes. A Mark Buerhle type and good end of the rotation starter.

Also, I just secured tickets to two games in Baltimore in April (the 25th and 26th). Anyone ever make this trip to see the Sox at Camden Yards? Any tips on where to stay and such would be appreciated. Hopefully the rotation holds up as right now we'd get to see Beckett and Matsuzaka. I can't wait!

Stayed at the Courtyard in downtown Baltimore. Very nice hotel, and easy to get to the stadium from there.

And how about Dice-K? 1 hit allowed in his last eleven innings pitched.

                            I feel bad for Hansen.

Hopefully he can pull it together this year, but he blew up in todays game.

I don't really feel bad for the douche, he's making $4M to be terrible.

Really, I think both the Red Sox player development staff and Hansen himself have just done a horrible job on his development as a big league pitcher from day one. He came in with astronomical expectations and was anointed as the "closer of the future" before he even threw a big league pitch.

There's no question the Red Sox rushed him to the majors, screwed around with his delivery too much (but not for all the wrong reasons, they likely wanted to mitigate his arm injury risk as his initial pitching mechanics were painful to watch), and have not given him the proper foundation to succeed in the majors.
I don't know Hansen or anything, but I just get the feeling that he's not really dedicated to being a sick *** MLB pitcher right now, for this team.

It's too bad because I definitely see Hansen as the type of guy who, if moved to another organization that actually knows something about relievers and coaching, could become dominant.

Agreed, the Sox system, for lack of a better word, isn't working for him/the team.

Any thoughts on Pineiro now that Pap is back in the cloer role? He must look pretty good to a few teams around the league given the pitching woes of some

Nomar's homer off Pedro. Those four words just shouldn't go together. Not even on a day like 6/6/6. ~Bill Simmons
