If he had come out in spring and struck out a lot and looked overmatched, then it would have likely been the end of the road for him in Cincy. But he has only struck out a few times and with the exception of the recent cooling down, he has hit the ball great.

So I say he makes the team and plays when Freel is hurt, which will be often.

As for Griffey...it just kills me that this happens every year with him. One of my all time favorite players and I just hate to see his career end the way it is. I keep hoping that he will come out and play 140-150 games and hit .300 40hr 100rbi, but it just doesn't seem like that will be possible anymore. Sucks.
Yup, every year i keep WAITING for Vintage Jr. to show up... .297 to .300
40+ dingers and 100+ RBIs...only to get the same
    ole $hit... DL

Jr. IS playin' RF this year, so if think maybe Freel/Hamilton platoons CF...maybe

Motown, I definitely agree that with the Griffey playing right, then there may be a platoon with Hamilton and Freel. Only time will tell if Hamilton can handle real major league pitching, but if he can, it wouldn't surprise me if by year's end that he is a starting outfielder. As much as I love Freel and have always felt like if anyone deserved to be an everyday player it would be him, his reckless abandon on the field (good thing) will get him injured quite often and if Hamilton takes advantage of his time out there, it may be hard to NOT play him.

Of course this is all just speculation as we really don't know how Hamilton will handle the MLB season. I am rooting for him though!

Easily... he could have done it easily. That kills me. I still have hope that he'll reach the record. It'll just take him a LONG time, lol. He'll be the oldest player in the game at 74 yrs old to hit a HR to break the record, haha.

I'm thinking about getting a season ticket package. Anyone else season ticket holders?

              Re: 2007 Cincinnati Reds

Well, for those of you not sure about Hamilton, since he was a Rule V pick, he has to stay on the major league roster for the entire season for the Reds to keep him. If he doesn't, he goes back to the Cubs (the original bidders on Hamilton at the Rule V draft) along with $25,000. So I say they keep Hamilton unless he gets hurt or drops below the Mendoza line for an extended period of time.

Brandon Phillips, I was glad to see this kid turn his career around, but he really struggled in the second half. I think he was trying to swing for the fences too often, and though I hate to say it, I think he comes down to reality this season. .260, 70 runs, 45 RBI.

Edwin Encarnacion, people can trash him all they want for his defense, but I watched him intently last season after he came back from his injury and not only was he good with the bat, but he play a much better 3B. The sky's the limit with this kid and we may start to see what he's really about this season.

Though I won't admit it outside this thread, I think the Reds have a good chance this season. No NL Central team is a world-beater and the Reds have some nice pitching, finally. Bullpen needs to come together but I'm not concerned about the lack of a true closer. I'm more concerned about the middle innings relief guys, that's what killed us last year. I'm very optimistic but I'm trying to keep my hopes in check until I actually see them in the regular season. Opening Day should be a national holiday.

Just seen that when Griffey returns, he'll be playing RF...

Lots of it. Jery Narron and Wayne Krivsky just announced the following:

--Chris Denorfia needs "Tommy John" surgery.

--Bobby Livingston and and Gary Majewski were optioned to Louisville.

--Jeff Keppinger, Bill Bray and Elizardo Ramirez go on the DL and will rehab in Florida.

--Jerry Gil, Denorfia and Eddie Guardado go on the DL and come north with the team.

--Either Matt Belisle or Kirk Saarloos will be the fifth starter.

--The last position player will be Norris Hopper or Chad Moeller.

--The last relief positions will go to a two of these three: Victos Santos, Jon Courlangus or Jared Burton.

Man, i'd LOVE for Burton & Santos to head North

That Denorfia injury came out of nowhere. I like Burton and Santos to make the team too.

Anyone have any idea as to what the starting rotation will be?. Will Lohse be a starter or what?. I'm curious as to who the starters, 1 thru 5, will be. If someone could inform me, that'd be great.

                          Re: 2007 Cincinnati Reds

Looks like one of the possible closer options just fell through:

                          Hermanson Released:
The official website of the Cincinnati Reds with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

As far as the rotation goes, I don't know if Narron has said anything other than 1 & 2.

I would venture to guess something like this:

                          Harang
                          Arroyo
                          Lohse
                          Milton
                          Belisle

I wish they would trade Milton out of there. He clearly is NOT worth the crazy amount of money they are paying him. He may be a decent pitcher in a park like the LA Dodgers have, but in a HR park like Cincy's...they just don't mesh well. But I haven't seen anything since he came over to Cincy that suggests he is even a decent pitcher in a pitcher's park. Extremely overpaid!

Tomorrow's the big day. Just 2 weeks ago I couldn't stop thinking about Baseball as my college basketball team (University of Kentucky) were getting knocked around in the SEC tourney and start of the NCAA tourney. But with Tubby leaving, the prospect of bringing on a coach to get UK back to where they should be has now focused just about every inch of my attention on UK. Hopefully something will happen this week (Wed possibly) so I can continue my renewed love for baseball and the Reds.

Well, it looks like Milton won't be pitching for a bit because he was just placed on the DL, along with Elizardo Ramirez. Also, it looks like David Weathers mind end up being the closer.

What a great start for Harang, Dunn and Griffey....and the rest of the Reds. Everything I read about the game said it was something special. I had recorded it on ESPN2 HD so I could watch it after work and what happens? Well for the first time EVER, the dvr recorded the 1st 30 seconds, jumped to the 4th inning for about 10 minutes, and then the end of the game highlights. All in all, I got about 12 minutes worth of the game and I was extremely pissed about it.

Oh well, here's to hoping the Reds have a good season!
