    Re: 2007 Cincinnati Reds

Hopefully tonight is the beginning of a long and very successful career for Homer Bailey. I am very much looking forward to seeing him pitch and I really hope he does well and doesn't hurt his confidence. Although from everything I have read about him or from him, that doesn't seem possible (losing confidence).

For those able to go to the game, have a blast as you never know you could be seeing history in the making.

It was a fun game and atmosphere. Homer pitched well (needs to throw more strikes though), Junior knocked one out, the bullpen didn't blow it. All-in-all, a fine evening of Reds baseball. Couple of issues that concerned me were Narron leaving Homer in for 110 pitches and Gonzalez making a couple of defensive mistakes. Cliff Lee actually pitched pretty well tonight for the Tribe. He really made only four mistakes (but they were big): 1) the HR to Phillips, 2) the double to Phillips, 3) the HR to Conine, and 4) the HR to Junior. He made a few guys look silly at the plate. Luckily the Reds got the W tonight. Great debut by Homer too!

Pretty good debut for Homer. Really nice to start off your career with a win, and getting a little run support from your hitters.

I was glad to see Homer Bailey get the win and do it against a good team like the Indians, but he did not pitch that well. He left a lot of breaking balls up and it won't take long for teams to recognize that and start taking him deep. He also needs to cut down on his walks, I would hate to see him become an all or nothing pitcher.

Vote for our guys in the AllStar balloting fellas. Griffey is currently 2nd among all outfielders, so it looks like he'll make it back to the AS festivities again.

Heard that Adam Dunn is on the trading block. What will it cost teams to acquire him? Something similar to the package for Gary Sheffield, or less? I would think less given, Dunn's whiff-itis.

It's interesting how many potential DH's there are in MLB, and how there are only 14 spots available. Guys like Dunn and Wily Mo Pena should really be only DH's. Which is another reason why the NL should have the DH, but that's a whole other argument.

Not sure what we can get for him, but I'm glad he's being moved. He's probably my least liked player on the roster. It's all or nothing with him, and most of the time, it's nothing. He is a DH player, and that's it.

Its time to celebrate boys, Eric Milton will never pitch again for the Reds. He is going to have Tommy John surgery and it out for the year!!!! He had a total of 16 wins in his 3 years with the Reds and he made 25 million!

One other note Everyday Eddie pitched a scoreless inning of relief last night for AAA Louisville last night.

Was about to post the same thing. I definitely don't wish anyone to have an injury that requires surgery and a year of recovery, but I sure am glad to not have to hear that Milton is pitching for the Reds again.

As far as Dunn, I have heard that San Diego and possibly the Dodgers are interested. Would be nice if we could get a good pitcher or two or some young pitching talent for him.

Also, I would love more than anything if Griffey could reach 600 Home Runs this season. If for nothing else than to take the limelight off of Bonds breaking the record.

It sounds like you guys don't think Dunn is that valuable. If Reds management shares the same thinking, then it doesn't appear you will get even close to what the Yankees got for Sheffield.

Maybe 1 guy like an Humberto Sanchez packaged with a fringe/high ceiling/question mark A or AA pitcher.

Personally I think Dunn is that valuable. Maybe because you guys watch him strike out so much every day he is insufferable, but in the American League he is a potential MVP candidate. You don't have to worry about his dunce-like defense and can just sit back and enjoy him hit bombs. Who are all the current DH's on American League teams?

                      Seattle: Richie Sexson?
                      Texas: Sammy Sosa, Frank Catalanotto?
                      Oakland: Mike Piazza, Jack Cust
                      LA: Garrett Anderson, Vlad Guerrero?

                      Detroit: Gary Sheffield, Magglio Ordonez
                      Cleveland: Travis Hafner
                      Chicago: Jim Thome
                      KC: Mike Sweeney
                      Minnesota: Jeff Cirillo, some scrubs

NYY: Johnny Damon for now, Jason Giambi if his foot ever heals, whichever position player is hurt for the day
                      Boston: David Ortiz
                      Toronto: Frank Thomas
Tampa Bay: Rocco Baldelli? Random guys.
                      Baltimore: Kevin Millar, Aubrey Huff

You can't tell me Adam Dunn wouldn't be an upgrade over some of these schlubs. He would look perfect in Minnesota as the DH, but who knows if those old goats would ever get a guy who K's so much. Probably not. Tampa is another good fit.

I agree that I think Dunn is worth a good amount. I also think that he is still young enough for someone, anyone, to work on his strike outs and while he will always strike out a good deal, I think he has the potential to only strike out about 160 times a year. But that and ihs defense are his biggest question marks.

He came into spring training with a renewed sense of hitting and defense. He looked pretty impressive during spring and didn't strike out at the normal alarming rate he is accustomed to. He was spraying the ball to all fields and looked to be on his way to a break out season. But after a home run or two in the regular season and he was back to his old ways. I have always rooted for Dunn to be a superstar and always felt like he as that potential. But if he doesn't change that will never happen.

As it stands the Reds have more outfielders than they need and he is definitely the most valuable so I don't mind the trade at all. Again I would love for him to be in Cincy, if he could stop being an all or nothing at the plate, but either that will never change or it will take longer than the Reds have time for at this point. They really need more pitching and hopefully he can bring some talent in a trade.

Reds hitters dropping like flies tonight. Five of the first six outs were by strikeout. Wow.

Edit: Escobar has struck out eight of the first nine...

The Reds finished with 16 K's tonight, right? Ridiculous, but at least they won. Arroyo pitched a good game and the bullpen held the lead for once. How about Norris Hopper knocking in an insurance run by just putting the ball in play (instead of striking out), which Aybar booted for an error? I'm going down Wednesday night. Hopefully Lohse will pitch well. Lackey might eat the Reds hitters alive. They might set a record for strikeouts by a team in a 3-game series.

Yeah, pitiful number of K's by our guys, but at least we pulled away with the win. Not too many times that Vlad will have such a poor offensive game either... so we need to be ware.

That catch by Brandon in the 9th was awesome though. Have fun Wednesday. I was going to try to make it, but I think I may be going next Friday instead.
