Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
As soon as he posted that, Fielder hit a home run to tie the game 2-2.
So far 2 on for the Brewers with 1 out.Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
Yeah Olson is good for that, he talks crap when they are winning and then when they loss he stf up! lol Oh well I was at the game Peavey looked great and you hitters keep getting big hits for you. Zito actually pitch good. That error hurt him and the first 3 inning he was really on. Now our pull pen is a joke!Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
I'm not buying that a farm system can't produce more than one everyday position player in 7 years even if the focus is on pitching. Pitching that has yet to produce a single reliable major league player either(yes, Cain is certainly on his way, but he's not there yet, Lowry looked like a lock 2 years ago...).Comment

BTW, not to be a spelling cop, but it's Peavy (Although I have heard rumors the Padres might take a kid named Greg Peavey in the draft, best of both worlds I guess). Not that it really matters, but I'm glad he came up big in the opener especially with all the talk that he shouldn't be the ace here because Chris Young had one good season. Amazing how much one season can change a fans' view on a player.
I expect tomorrow to be a pitcher's duel with Cain and Young (And I think Cain may breakout this year similar to what Peavy did in 2004. If not this year then maybe next year).Comment

You are missing the point they didn't worried about getting good hitters, they built the team around Bonds and some old good hitters. Now it is hurting them, but the future is bright in the pitching department! If you can't see that oh well, but it doesn't change the fact they have a lot of pitching prospects, also think about the guys they traded, like Nathen and lilanio and others.Comment

BTW, you were right about Jason. From what I've heard, he's not even topping 90 MPH.Last edited by Chip Douglass; 04-03-2007, 08:21 PM.I write things on the Internet.

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
I'm sure Bochy is going to miss having a bullpen like the Padres. One thing is for sure Bochy is not afraid to use his bullpen and KT's been rather lucky finding cheap gems for him to work with in his latter years as our manager.

Yeah Young and Cain should be a good one. Your bull pen is great, I don't think Black is a great manager, but I could wrong!Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
You guys may complain we never have guys from the minors that are in the show, but really now.. how many of them are really getting a chance? Yeah, it's true that we have a bunch of young talent in our arms with Cain Lowry Linecum Sanchez Correia Hennessy Wilson and so on, but the difference between pitchers and position players is amazing. First of all, our pitchers have had a CHANCE to show they belong, given the opportunity, whether it be starting or in relief, and there really hasnt been any "veteran" to compete and take their time away. As we all know, our every day players are beyond old and it will continue to stay that way as long as Bonds is here. Giants made a statement once again this offseason by re-signing Ray Durham (Frandsen has been waiting for quite a bit now), Pedro Feliz and then acquiring Roberts Klesko and Aurilia (remember Linden Ellison Fred Lewis and even Niekro?) Many other clubs let their young guys play and develop, the Giants don't.
I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

And there are dozens of rounds in the baseball draft, they didn't try to get even one hitter all this time? Focus on pitching, fine, no problem, but you can't completely ignore hitting. Trading away your best pitching prospects just makes it worse, all of the focus on pitching but they couldn't have seen Liriano or Nathan had that potential?
It is a flawed plan of action in the first place, made 100 times worse by the Minnesota trade.Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
Yeah that is not good, he lives off throwing 94, just make that change up more dangous. But you will be fine you have a good pull pen and hitters.Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
Klesko is a good left-handed power hitting option off the bench.
He should not be starting more than 1/4th the games in the regular season. His swing will land him on the DL if that's the case.
Roberts is alright. He just needs to stay healthy like he did over here.
And lastly, I think the Padres rival the Giants in not letting their young players have a chance.
Outside of Greene, Barfield, Hensley, and Peavy (players who went through our farm system the past five years), not one Padre was given a full season to assimilate themselves into the league.
Jason Bay? Traded after 8 at bats. Xavier Nady? Benched when he got into a slump and wasn't allowed to work out of his slump. Jon Knott? I think he only saw two career games in a two week stint. Ben Johnson? Was given the Nady treatment. Humberto Quintero? Traded for awesome Cy Young-contender-in-make-believe-baseball Tim Redding. Stauffer? Here's a few starts, oh you're not pitching like Peavy, back in AAA you go.Comment
