Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
I understand that they focused on pitching, but where are the results? The Twins have two good starters and a closer? There is a gap in the scouting department when they let two very, very good prospects(and Bosner who is on the verge of turning into a reliable starter) for an aging catcher. Yes, "win while we have Barry", I understand the philosophy, and they should have gotten a World Series title out of it. BUT, as it stands, all of this focus on pitching hasn't helped the team much, Cain could be the #1 for a long time, but who knows?
And there are dozens of rounds in the baseball draft, they didn't try to get even one hitter all this time? Focus on pitching, fine, no problem, but you can't completely ignore hitting. Trading away your best pitching prospects just makes it worse, all of the focus on pitching but they couldn't have seen Liriano or Nathan had that potential?
It is a flawed plan of action in the first place, made 100 times worse by the Minnesota trade.
Yes the twins trade hurts. But to tekk you the truth you can go a long way with a great pullpen and starting pitching.Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
Yeah, but we have done some good trade too, Williams for Kent and others. Just haven't done anything lately. I kinda feel like BK feel about your GM. Brian has done some good move, but has done some bad moves too.Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
That is part of the problem and a big reason I think the front office and/or scouting department are doing an embarassing job. The rebuilding process is going to be very, very painful, all for the sake of hoping a group of verterns can all stay healthy and play as good, or better, than they ever have in their long careers up to this point.Comment

Yes, and maybe if they didn't make the Twins trade then the Giants would actually have great pitching. As it stands, they have many more unknowns than proven players.Comment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
You just proved his point. From what I took from that he mentioned how much a mistake trading away the pitchers were for a horrendous Pierzynski. I think it's easy to say that our young position players are going nowhere fastI do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
Bingo! Additionally, all of these pitching prospects have yet to produce a single reliable pitcher. Lowry look like a lock in late 2004 & 2005, but was very shaky last year, now who knows? Cain looks like he could be an ace, but again, who knows? The bullpen looks decent, but Wilson gets sent down after a horrible spring and the only prospect who has put in a full seasons work out there is Hennessey, who is far from a sure thing.Comment

Of course, your not seeing some of them because the Dodgers had a free agent upheavel this past offseason.I write things on the Internet.

Re: 2007 San Francisco Giants
I disagree. Loney, Kemp, Martin, Ethier, Billingsly, and Broxton have all gotten significant playing time, with most of these players either starting or still on the roster.

Exactly, I will say I would take your hitting prospects over our's, but I will take our's pitching prospects over yours! lolComment

Cain is 20 years old and has had a one hitter all ready, he will be great! That kids has it all, if he gets more control watch out! Control takes time in the bigs!!Comment

I'm not so sure. I agree you have the better pitching prospects in the rotation, but the bullpen (Broxton, Billingsly), no, I'd call it a wash.I write things on the Internet.
