And yet McLaren leaves him in there in a high leverage situation late in the game against a right hander with Ben Broussard sitting on the bench. McLaren frustrates the hell out of me. He has no idea how to build a lineup, how to use his bullpen, or how to use his bench.

The win % doesn't show it, because this team is winning in spite of him, but McLaren deserves to be in the company of Bill Plummer when you're talking about all time worst M's managers.

I sat in slack-jawed wonder in front of the TV as I watched Richie Sexson stride to the plate there. It never even occurred to me that McLaren wouldn't use Broussard to pinch hit for him in that situation. It was like watching a car accident in slow motion that you knew was going to happen but could do nothing to stop.

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the hell out of Mike Hargrove.

That a baby Richie! Nice walk-off. Every dog has his day.

Once again, another game this team won in spite of horrendous managing. In a 2 run game, why would you bring in easily your worst reliever in the 7th inning?!?!? McLaren is AWFUL!

Ron Gardentool's "managing" (and I use that term very loosely) offset's your team's horrible managing.

Agreed. All bad managing being equal tonight the game probably turned out the way it should have.

Did you guys read what Sexson said after the game? About how he doesn't understand how the M's fans could boo a winner. Dude, you're barely hitting over the Mendoza line and you're one of the top paid players in the game. Just shut your damn mouth. I'm happy for Sexson and the M's, but he hits one HR and thinks that all is forgiven. We're winning because guys like Jose Guillen and Betancourt are picking up the slack for Sexson's sorry ***.

I did see that quote and thought it was weird. He's obviously a sensitive guy. Like McLaren said, he's lucky he's not in Boston or Philly or NYC! He might not leave his house if he wasn't in Seattle. What's odd is that he complained about the booing, but, later in the story he says "But I dug my own grave" or something like that. So he complains and says it's a mystery why he gets booed, but then later says he understands? Which is it?

All I know is suddenly the light seems to have gone on for him. He's hit the ball hard for the last week or so, and that first inning double didn't miss by much for being another HR. Like someone said after the game, he's not missing those pitches he was missing through the first 4 months. Whatever he's doing differently, keep it up!

I didn't read the article, but saw the interview and I think Richie's questioning of the booing was in reference to the rest of the team. They're a winner, yet the fans were booing players other than Richie. He was fine with fans booing him as he admitted he deserved it.

Let's hope this is the traditional Richie Sexson 2nd half hot streak. Having a big bat in the middle of the lineup makes this team so much more dangerous. Now if only Raul had any bat speed and pitch recognition left.

I was at the game last night. After 24 hours of hectoring by the Seattle media and a big screen display of Richie's greatest Mariners hits the crowd had been guilt-tripped enough to cheer almost everything Sexson did during an 0-4, 2 SO, 1 GIDP performance.

Sexson wasn't the big problem yesterday, though. It was the predictably crappy pitching of Horacio Ramirez.

Ugh, Torrie Hunter loves to hit Salami's in Safeco. Nice way for the offense to grab their ankles this series. Who'da thunk it they would have more success off of Johan than Silva and Baker combined.

I was at the game today and it was another very mediocre start by Felix although he got the win. He's got all the talent in the world but he's still a thrower not a pitcher. Sometimes I forget he's only 21 though and is way ahead of almost every other pitcher his age.

And the M's stay just two games back of the Angels as they sweep the series from the White Sox. Safeco is rocking again with 45,000+ at each game. It's nice to have some meaningful games in August again.

The Mariners are just rolling right now. Everyone's hitting, even Richie Sexson; Ibanez has been ridiculous lately hitting nine bombs over the past two weeks; Vidro looks like he could hit .400 forever; Jose Guillen is a freaking warrior; Ichiro is Ichiro; and even Horacio Ramirez managed to successfully impersonate a major league pitcher yesterday.

I keep expecting to wake up.

Thanks to John McLaren's brilliant management of the bullpen and bench the M's basically have no shot of winning the West.

Q: Why do you bring in Rick White, your worst pitcher, to face Vladimir Guerrero with the sacks full?

Q: Without a lefty warming up in the bullpen and Shields on the mound why not pinch hit Ben Broussard for that hack that is Richie Sexson?

A: Because McLaren is a spineless puss who can never sit his veterans no matter how much worse they make this team.

I have nightmares of Bavasi bringing that hack back for the next 2 years.

Mariners will probably go after Garner.
