The official website of the Cincinnati Reds with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Corey Patterson has been confirmed as our starting centerfielder. Ryan Freel and Norris Hopper will be riding the good ol' pine.

Similar to everyone else, I see the potential he has. And similar to everyone else, I see how he fails to reach it year after year. Here's to hoping he can do some good things in a Reds uniform, though I'm not holding my breath.
        NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
        NFL - Buffalo Bills
        MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Kent Mercker. I'm hardly able to contain my excitement. If this was 1993 or something, yeah, that would be great.

I felt that way too, but then I had heard and then verified, that Bray has a total of 65 innings for the past two years...combined. He has been injury prone. So I think (although you never know with Baker) that he has been sent down to continue to get stronger (coming off an injury) and to make sure he doesn't go down again. Once he has proven he is healthy, and someone faulters in the pen (and you know someone, if not many, will), he will likely be brought back up.

As far as Mercker goes, I actually like Mercker. Not because of his pitching prowess though, mostly because he just doesn't take crap from anyone and will tell you like like it is. I hope he does well.

if they are saying they want to make sure 100% that Bray's arm is ready before throwing him in the majors, then OK I guess I can live with that. But if they're just gonna send him to Louisville to be coddled because - oh gosh - he might get hurt, then I can't deal with that. Injuries happen.

I think it is more of the "make sure Bray is 100%" than just to coddle him. But this is Baker, a person of which I have no real knowledge of how he works, so anything is possible.

cooter dfa'ed today along with the following opening day transactions per john fay:

Today the Reds placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to 3/21, RHP Matt Belisle (right forearm) and SS Alex Gonzalez (left knee) and, retroactive to yesterday, C David Ross (lower back); designated for assignment LHP Mike Stanton and LHP Jon Coutlangus; purchased the contracts of non-roster invitees C Paul Bako (#9), RHP Johnny Cueto (#47), RHP Mike Lincoln (#57), LHP Kent Mercker (#50) and OF Corey Patterson (#23)...another spot on the 40-man roster will be cleared after 1:00 p.m. today.

that sucks about cooter. i still think he has some big league talent.

I hope the Reds have a decent year, they're my 2nd favorite team. I'll be pulling for them, unless they're playing the Braves...

And Edwin makes an error on the first ball hit to him this year.
After 1/2 inning 1-0 DBacks, on an unearned run.

Slick ball? I dunno. He made a great stop on the hit...but then the play had to be completed. He'll be okay. I have faith.

Lots of K's in this game so far...

Any of my fellow Reds fans happen to see Josh Hamiltons 2 run 9th inning HR to win the game last night?
He also had two outstanding catches in CF last night, one was a over the shoulder basket catch as he hit the wall!!!

no i didn't, but i know he tore it up during spring training. however, i think in the long run it was better to deal him, specially if volquez turns out to be a stud. pitching > hitting.

I agree that pitching is greater than hitting and I truly hope this trade works out for the Reds, or even both teams. I was a HUGE supporter of Hamilton and it still kills me that he was traded, but I also realize it had to be done. I would have preferred Griffey was traded or Dunn. Reason being that we could have Hamilton and Jay Bruce manning the outfield AND Volquez!!! Yeah I know, it would have never happened. But I can dream, can't I?

Hamilton is a stud and a half and I really really hope he has a great career. Just mind blowing the kind of talent he has.
