Not really a big deal though, I just wish he struck out the side and showed everyone why he could have a stellar career.
Yeah that sucked, the only thing was if the NL would have held onto the 3-2 lead it had he would have been the winning pitcher.

Also listening to sports talk this morning it was reported the Reds may be close to dealing Weathers and Affeldt. I for one would be glad to see Weathers gone!

I agree, he was pretty solid last year as our closer, but this year he just looks lost.

Couldn't agree more. Weathers has been a valuable piece to this team the past couple of seasons. Not only in pitching but also being a mentor and leader. I am happy we have had him and I am happy he did as well as he did. But it is time for him to move on from Cincy....maybe from baseball. He definitely has some stuff left and maybe if he was traded to a contending team it would give him enough fire to really pitch well, but it is time for him and Cincy to part ways.

I will say this about Weathers. I don't recall ever reading anything negative about him. Nothing negative about his work habits. Nothing negative at all. That is something that I find refreshing especially out of Cincy where there seems to be negativity everywhere. So while I truly hope he is traded, I also wish him luck.

I guess he didn't get the message, we've actually been doing pretty decent as of late.

Local sports talk was is talking about Dunn being better in the field then people think. His defensive #'s have greatly inproved this year, his errors are way down and he is getting to more balls
I posted this article in the Brandon Phillips thread but I didnt know if all of you Reds fans would see if there.
Check this article out from Baseball Prospectus.
As you can see he is alot better in the field then I thought!

              Baseball Prospectus
During the broadcast of Saturday night's game, the Mets' announcing team began to discuss the fact that Adam Dunn was leading National League left fielders in putouts. Though Dunn is actually second in the NL as of this writing (behind Milwaukee's recently-converted corner outfielder Ryan Braun) it still may take a second for that thought to sink in, thanks to the image of him we all carry around in our minds. The Reds left fielder is a big, plodding guy, both in the outfield and on the base paths, and he's been accused of being incapable of properly fielding left in the past thanks to poor conditioning. This season appears to be different though-not only is Dunn second in the NL in putouts (and fourth in the majors) but he's also fifth in the majors in John Dewan's Revised Zone Rating. Out of the qualifiers, Matt Holliday leads the league with a .925 RZR, Carlos Quentin is in last at .826, and Adam Dunn is comfortably above the average at .903, and even has 25 plays made outside of his zone. Looking at our own FRAA tells the same story as Dunn is at +6-a result of both this and his .314 EqA (second best of his career)-and is on pace to have the best year on his resume right before hitting free agency.
Teams interested in signing Dunn should take note of his defensive play in order to see if he's truly progressed, or if this is a short, half-season blip on the statistical radar. Is Dunn taking better routes to the ball to make up for his lack of speed? Has he improved his conditioning to the point where he can get from Point A to Point B quickly without the use of a bullpen car? If he's even an average outfielder defensively, he's one of the more productive players in the league thanks to a bat that ranks with the best (even when he hits .230) and if he's able to replicate this year's success in the long run, he's going to be worth at least a full win with the glove on the year, something I didn't expect to be typing in my lifetime.

I agree it is pretty wild to think Dunn has improved that much. Which is great since we will likely have him for a bit longer. I just don't know if he has turned a corner or if this was just a stellar first half for him.

I know it sounds like lately I hate Dunn. That truly isn't the case and if you look back at season previews this year and last I believe, i was a HUGE supporter of Dunn. I always thought he could do better. I guess I am just tired of being disappointed so now I take a "glass half empty" approach. But maybe he has finally started to do what I had hoped...defensively anyway. I still can't stand his crazy amounts of k's and horrible batting avg and still think that if he just sprayed the ball more he could be a .300 hitter. But that doesn't seem like it is ever going to change.

I just think that personally I constantly hear sports talk here in Cincy talk about how bad he is in the field and how he should be a DH, after hearing it so many times you just agree with it. I too was once a big Dunn supported and defended him alot, now I dont really care one way or another on wether they keep him or not.

By the way it cracks me up listening to gojackets (or what ever his name is) on here. You can tell he doesnt watch the Reds on an everyday basis like we do.

It is really more his ego-centric tone that he takes that gets to me. Not to mention almost every post he makes has a negative connotation to it and is insulting someone whether it be me or someone else. But I have made my last comment in that thread as I think he is just trying to push my buttons.

As far as Dunn and his fielding goes, I am truly suprised by those stats and hopefully he will continue that way for the rest of the year and beyond. But I am like you at this point, I just don't care one way or another if he stays or goes.

It's weird that we are saying this about a guy that is second in the majors in HR's.
I was talking about Dunn with a group of 11 year olds Saturday and none of them really like Dunn, they dont really care if he goes either. Not one of them own a Dunn jersey or t shirt but everyone of them have either a Griffey or Phillips jersey.
Everyone of them said they would be really disappointed if Griffey was not back next year. 2 of them even said they would quit rooting or the Reds if he is not back.

You're right....it is a hbit weird. I do think it is kind of cool that young kids like Griffey since he hasn't been the "Kid" since before they were born, but I am over him completely and DO NOT WANT HIM BACK NEXT SEASON. Dunn I don't care one way or another, but Griffey has to go. Used to be a fav of mine but he is holding the reds back at this point IMO.

                          Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds

Are you f'ing kidding me? Coco blew another save tonight! I was hopeul the Reds wouldn't like the biggest tools in baseball by signing him for as much as they did, but it looks like that is a very big possibility. I am not giving up on him just yet but man, he should not be giving up 3 runs, 4 runs in the 9th inning like he has lately.

On a positive note, Bailey pitched fairly well. He is pitching tons better than he did the previous call ups so hopefully he will keep this up. Also, EE is now up to .268 with 18 dingers.

I had a long post yesterday then my pc froze so I lost it before I posted it, but essentially I didn't realize that the top error positions in the league are 3B and SS. The top 9 players with the most errors in the NL play one of those two positions with EE being tied for 3rd. It makes sense, I guess I just never really looked at it. With that said, some other players in the Top 9 are Reyes, H. Ramirez and D. Wright. Kind of surprising to me to see those big names up there.

The Cordero signing is just another reason to be glad that Kriskey is gone!
CoCo the joke-0 is killing us, 3 blown saves in the last 5 games. He has as many blown saves this year as Weathers had all of last year! Did anyone hear what David Wright said about CoCo the stink-O after his game winning hit off of him over the weekend? He said Cordero only has 2 pitches so all you have to do is guess witch of his 2 pitches he is going to throw and he said his fastball is really straight.
The really bad thing is we are stuck with him for 4 years, no one is going to want him since he makes 12 million a year.
Also has anyone else noticed how really, really, bad of a first baseman Votto is? He doesnt have a clue most of the time. I watch every Reds game either on FSN or at my works box and if you watch him closely you really see how bad he is at 1B. Every game he makes at least one play at 1B that makes you scratch your head, he made 2 again last night.

Thanks for pissing me off even more about Stink-O.

As far as Votto goes, yes. He sucks at 1st base. It has always been his knock. I do like him a lot and think he can be a very good hitter, but I am not so sure if he should do it at 1st. One thing I heard was that if Dunn leaves, through trade or free agency, then they might put Votto in LF. Not sure if that is an upgrade or not, but maybe a little bit. I also think that is why they drafted a 1st baseman with their 1st pick this year. Again, I like Votto but he needs to learn 1st or he may be a DH in his future.

Do you realize he started out 9-3 his first year with the Reds (2006) and he is 18-30 since?
The 30 losses in that span are the 3rd most in the majors, only Jose Contrersas 32 and Barry Zito 31 have more losses.
Also he from June 24, 2006 to June 24, 2008 he has allowed the most HR's in the majors, he has allowed 66.

A local sports talk guy was saying yesterday that the Phillies want Harrang. Would you guys trade Harrang for Victorino and some prospects?
That would leave the Reds with a rotation next year of
                                1. Volquez
                                2. Cueto
                                3. Thompson
                                4. Bailey
                                5. Maloney
Victorino would really fill a huge need of the Reds, he is a great CF and would bat lead off.
They also said if Harrang is traded and Griff and Dunn are let go, the Reds would have 37 million to spend this off season. They could use the money to try and sign Texeria or Burrel or maybe even both.
                                Imagine

Looks like a pretty good line up to me.
                                What do you think?
Well every since I made this post on 6/25/08 Arroyo has been unreal, 5-0 with a 3.09 ERA!
I need to make sure I bash every Reds pitcher when they are pitching bad!!! lol
He has been great since the 10 run 1st inning against the Blue Jays back in June. Did any of you hear his interview after the game last night?
He said the if the Reds want to win in the future they will not trade him. He said with Harrang and the 2 young guys the Reds have a chance to be really good in the next couple of years. He said if the Reds trade him this year it is a salary dump and they are telling the fans they do not want to win. I know he has been great the last month but those are pretty strong words for a very mediocre pitcher. If anything his stock is at the highest it has been for a long time and the Reds should trade him while his stock is up.
What do you guys think? Should the Reds move him now when they could get more for him?
Remember we have 4 decent young pitchers that need a spot in the rotation next year in Volquez, Cueto, Bailey and Thompson. Put these 4 with Harrang and there is not a spot for Bronson next year.
I wonder why he wants to stay with the Reds so bad, this is the 3rd time this year he has said he wants to stay with the Reds. I dont think he wants to be traded to a big market team like the Yankees where the pressure is 10 times greater than pitching in Cincy.
