I think they figured that out after almost giving one up to him in center. At this rate, pitch to the epic failure at third doing Income at Home ads.

Now for the pending question, will Rick Sutcliffe ask Matty V what he's still doing on MLB network?

Good win today, even though I was hoping for another loss. Looks like my hopes of 0-162 is dashed. Oh well, there's always 40-122.

I didn't get to see the game, but one thing I do like with Bud Black is that given this season the team is not expected to do anything this year, while it's just two games, I like how he's gone and tested a couple of the rookies from the pen in a key spot. It's risky, especially with sending Edwin Moreno in the top of the seventh today instead of the proven Cla Meredith and sticking him in there despite two walks and making him face Manny.

Hopefully Headley can step up this season, I'm not sold on Kouz just yet, but we really need someone to get going behind Adrian or he'll always get walked.

It absolutely is. I was listening to the Padres broadcast today and it was fecking horrible.

Headley should have had 3 RBIs if it wasnt for that catch by Blake in the 2nd I believe. Good win for you Padres, but tomorrow will be a challenge with Billingsley on the bump.

Hmm, you gotta let Billingsley know that he can avert that challenge by avoiding the bump. I think my fantasy team would prefer him to be on the mound instead of being challenged because he's on the bump. Hopefully it's not a speed bump.

Agreed about Black letting the rooks get some time out of the pen, but he's already made a few calls with the bat that I question...

In Monday's game, there were two on, and I think only one out with Adrian up to bat. There was a monster gap up the third base line, and what do we see? Adrian bunting. WTF?

Same game, Padres down 3-1 in the 6th, and Peavy's pitch count in the mid-80's, and Peavy comes in to bat?

Kouz is already looking pretty bad. He had the triple today which was nice, but he has also stranded 8 runners in the first two games, and that's only counting 3 AB's.

There was nobody on when Adrian attempted to bunt twice. The Dodgers had the shift on, so why not try to get something started. They hadn't seen a baserunner in the last 7 or so hitters.

I still don't know why people get so excited about things that happen in the first few games. If these were two games in the middle of July not a word would be said.

You sure? I thought I recall having baserunners on when he came up. Either way, it's a ******** call. If the bases were empty, why would a guy with his speed want to bunt? He had one bunt single last summer against the Giants that worked, but it was on the first pitch. If it doesn't work then, the surprise is over, so swing away.

It's not that it's happening so early, it's the fact that Black's managing has been questionable in the past, and this season isn't looking like it's going to be any different.

To be honest, it's tough to discuss anything here when negativity just surrounds the thread, and I am part of the problem.

Given that I don't expect much, what the heck do I have to lose with discussing the Padres when they aren't expected to do anything this season? Did Giants fans here completely give up and stop discussing their team when they were predicted to be the joke of the NL West last season? Nope. Don't Pirates fans still post, even though they have endured an unbelievable amount of losing seasons in the past two decades? Nope. I don't root for any other team and if I do root against the Padres, I'm never serious about it.

I think some people may be intimidated from being a "Why do you root for this organization?" They may be incompetent, they may do things I necessarily don't agree with or would have liked something done differently, but I grew up watching this team, heck being as "uneducated" and clueless about the Padres from 2001 to now, it's much like how others grow into being fans of their respective teams. Bkrich had more access to the Angels growing up than he did with the Padres, and while having some interest in the Padres, has been a true fan of the Angels.

On a side note, the Padres will announce a new COO/President today. I wish I could remember the name, but I still have marketing concepts running around my mind.

Here are my problems with the Padres. If they don't care about winning championships, and it's more than obvious they don't, why should I spend my money and my time rooting for them?

And even bigger problem, is for DirecTV subscribers in San Diego area, I can't watch the Padres on TV even if I wanted to. Due to their absurd Cox cable deal (a deal, which their director of operations himself told me was a bad deal in a telephone call).. The only chance I have to watch this team, is to go to Petco.

Not only have they made it hard to root for them due to their lack of commitment to winning, but they've totally alienated me as a fan, by making it absolutely impossible to follow the team, due to a shortsighted TV contract.
