Glendon Rusch wasn't on the roster last year, and there wasn't all that much chit chat about Meredith.

You saying the Padres bullpen wasn't deserving of the kudos they got last year? You think a team with that crappy of a lineup even sniffs the playoffs without lights out pitching?

Rockies are great offensively... at 5000 feet.

Exactly my point. Rockies are a different team at sea level.

I just want to say....I'm never watching another Extra Inning game involving the Padres. I got suckered into watching the game in the 10th inning and well....I didn't expect it to end in the 22nd!

What is it with the Rockies and Padres and not scoring runs when they face each other? Sheesh!

PETCO Park is not to blame for the lack of runs. Whatever happened to playing good ol' National League ball? If the leadoff runner gets on, you move his *** over in a controlled fashion.

Besides, PETCO Park isn't that big. Yes, it's big... but there are other ballparks with greater area (AT&T Park, Coors Field, Comerica Park [and they had to move in the left field fence to boot], and maybe Safeco Field). The one place that I understand would be tough to hit it out is in right field to the left of the short porch. Otherwise, it's just another park. Hell, even my Aztecs play at Tony Gwynn Stadium, whose lines are 340 and dead center is 415. No complaints there. I don't care whether they use aluminum bats... they are nowhere near as strong, and pitch speeds are nowhere near as fast.

I just don't get why players keep using that excuse that the park is too big. The only thing I understood was how the batter's eye was terrible until 2004, which was then corrected.

Size itself doesnt not accoutn for everything - the weather and type of climate really effects the ball; Rockies before the humidor the baseballs were rock hard. For Petco being by the ocean and the time of day keep some balls in the park. Location and size of a park is a factor but its definitley not the only factor on a win or loss, still have to play baseball the right way.

I was baffled late (13 or 14th) when Pads had a hit to Left and he pushed for 3rd with Hoffman waving him..even though he slowed his step at 2nd. Got alot of games between Rockies/Padres so it'll still be good

Please stop talking. Yes it's not that big, but it certainly is big in the power alleys, and down there especially at night as the marine layer comes in, the ball simply does not travel, like it does at other places. It's simply a matter of physics. Look at the ballpark factors chart for last year. Says all that needs to be said about the park, and how it factors in to the game.

While the Padres offensive ineptitude certainly is not all on the park, the Padres without a doubt need more productive hitters, to say it's not much of a factor is plain wrong.

I have heard quite a few people say, when the construction around the park is done, it will change some of the environmental factors at the park itself, and could change the way the ball travels there, making it a more hitter friendly park.

The ball definitley is "dead" when its night. I still need to visit the stadium when I visit back home in San Diego.

Every once and a while you get a night where the air is real dry and the ball will carry a bit better. But the heavy marine air and the big power alleys, especially to Right Center, kills a lot of would be homeruns.

All of that is well and good, adjust your game accordingly, the place is a band box. Quit swinging for the fences and put the ball in play. It's not that difficult to understand.

Or simply get guys that make better contact. Hit the ball hard often enough and it will find the gaps. The Padres lineup would still be crappy no matter what park they played in.

Exactly...I keep hearing all the complaints about the park affecting the offense, but the last time I checked the other team is playing in the same park. The bottomline is that the Padres are a slow team who swing and miss WAY too much. It cracks me up when I hear Matty V, Coach Q, or Philly Billy getting excited when the Padres hit a couple of doubles like they've turned the corner or something...

Alright, I dare to say that we may be worse than the Giants this year.

No, we ARE worse than the Giants. We might have more wins, but we're in the same mold as them, nice starting pitching, **** offense.
