Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
How bout Black's awesome managing in the 7th? Gregerson starts the inning with 10 straight balls, and then BB acts surprised when he tries to have a second coaching visit to the mound in the same inning. For a former pitcher, you would think he would know that there can only be one coaching visit per inning without having to change pitchers.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Ahh...the Padres we know and love. That play with Reyes scoring from second would have made me pull some folks out of the game. Pure laziness...Mujica sitting on his fat butt as Reyes rounds third."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Pretty humorous 7th inning last night, but it's only one game. Anyone else hate breaks in the middle of a series?Comment

Thanks sportsforever, our 0-9 record surely reflects the Padres that everyone knows and loves.Comment

I would think it would be for the same reason why there was break after the opening game in 2004 at PETCO Park against the Giants. They put a break in-between in-case there were light failures or whatever with the ballpark.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
2 against the Mets, not bad.
It looks like Bud's decision to move Chase up to the fifth spot is paying off. It'll be interesting to see how this pitching staff does going into a hitter's park like Citizens Bank Park. CY might get scuffled being a fly-ball pitcher and I'm not sure what to expect out of Hill and whoever we have going in the third game. The offense will need to keep things up and hopefully Giles gets going soon, because he's hurting this team with his .402 OPS.
Oh yeah, talk about bias, I see that Yahoo! Sports is so quick to make sure the two games the Padres beat the Mets, the headlines on their home page were so quick to disappear, but last night's loss to them they had the headline there up past 1 AM PST. Someone needs to let Heath know.
Positives: Chase Headley going 4-4, Jody Gerut with a multi-hit game, the bullpen minus Duaner.
Negatives: Peavy only going 5 innings, Duaner's hiccup.
Thumbs up to the opponents: Pitching around Adrian, K-Rod striking out the side, Carlos Delgado's Three-run shot (absolute bomb).Comment

Hey Rag3, don't get too excited, but Silva is injured, and will be missing his start this weekend. They haven't announced officially who is taking his spot, but Geer was called up in the mean time...Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
That's the thing, if Geer will be the one called up for the time being, who gets sent down? I doubt Silva goes on the DL.
Either Moreno or Gregerson is going to get sent down, since they are the only two relievers with options left in the bullpen.
It really doesn't make that much of a difference, the starters for the upcoming, including Chris Young, would have to pitch unbelievably well in my opinion for the Padres to have a chance. Whether it's Geer, Hill, or LeBlanc, they would have to limit the Phillies offense and keep the Padres in the game, which I really don't think will happen. Our offense probably has been over-achieving and I don't think we can keep up with the Phillies.
Oh well, I shouldn't worry. I need to remember that I expect nothing more out of this team than 40 wins, they're already almost a 1/5th of the way there.
Edit: I forgot, Floyd will begin rehabbing soon. I think Gregerson gets sent down for a couple of weeks just to accomodate Geer, then Geer gets sent down when Floyd comes back. Or maybe Edward Mujica gets placed on waivers then sent to AAA. Tough route, but he's been our worst reliever.Last edited by BatsareBugs; 04-17-2009, 04:33 AM.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Yep, exactly what I expected. Hamels shutting us down and Young struggling.
Now, if we win one game this series, I'd be surprised. Bullpen is going to get taxed early on and the offense is full of rally killers like Giles and Kouzmanoff. Why can't those two just disappear along with their bats?Comment
