I didn't see the presser, but I read the transcript and I didn't see what was so horrible with what Minaya did. Was it the best judgment...no, probably not. I thought the reporter made it into something by being confrontational...again, I only read the transcript so maybe I missed something in not seeing it.

Because a GM really shouldn't give two thoughts to what a writer's motivation is. Big time GMs don't get in these squabbles.

AS for trades, you can't trade the big names. The bonds on the stadium are tied to the club and luxury box revenue. They are in a catch-22 on this one.

The reporter reported a story.

Minaya admits that the story is basically true, and the Mets show it is true by firing the guy.

There is no reason to call into question the credibility of the reporter, because even if what Minaya said is true, which is unlikely, it doesn't matter because the story was true.

How is the reporter supposed to react?

Minaya: We received this reported story, a story done by Rubin, and we realized we needed to investigate it.

Rubin: Are you calling me out as not being credible?

Minaya: No, but you have asked about working in the organization. We were going to investigate the story thoroughly.

Rubin: Are you saying I would tear him down to get his job?

Obviously I'm paraphrasing, but it seemed like Rubin made the leap and turned it into something controversial.

Minaya mentioned that Rubin was lobbying for a job in the organization before Rubin said anything.

Yeah, that's exactly how it went down. It was like Omar did a sharp right turn in traffic. Even not being able to see it, but listening, I was like, "Where did THAT come from?"

The fact that Jeff publicly reprimanded Omar and apologized for his actions makes me think that we will probably have a new GM and ergo, a new manager next season.

agreed. and I know its cliche' at this point but I really feel like he did so much more with less. Its the perfect time too cause hes on his way back from Japan.

Bobby V had better pitching in my book. The Franco-Benitez combination was nice for a few years.

Yeah, I think Jerry just wanted to get the other guys some rest. I'll be very interested to see if young Mr. Niese can follow up his excellent outing in Houston. He was tearing it up at AAA before coming up, so we may have something. We have some nice young pitching going here; even Nieve was pitching relatively well, he was just a victim of no run support.

when was the last time we had a young pitching prospect actually make it from our farm? Maine doesn't count since I don't know if he will ever rebound.

Maine was from the Orioles organization, not the Mets.
