    Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves

I'm glad I'm not the only one cringing when Lowe takes the mound. Surprisingly, he's the main weak guy as the other 4 have been pretty solid - especially JJ.

Also, I'd like to see Medlen get more opprotunities. He's really performed well lately when given the chance...of course, I asked the same of Acosta and he blew up the next game.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

the problem with Lowe is that, obviously, he's a sinkerballer, he's gonna pitch to contact, but just when you start feeling comfortable with him on the mound he starts elevating over the middle of the plate, and you're just like....get him the hell out of there! he's got a good record, but an ERA well over 4 is just not cutting it in the NL. just look at Moyer, he had the most wins in the phillies org and they cut him to the 'pen for having the highest ERA as well!

also, i can see chipper mac and laroche having a big impact on our run if they all get hot at once, cos if they can get on base and still have laroche hitting out an hr every other game we would be in a very good position! it looks like wren made the right move with kasey, it's just a shame he went to an org where they've got, like, 20 all star first baseman (!).

big series with the fish, shame about yesterday, but we could make a big move if we take the next two, a very big move!

Surprisingly, Lowe is a pretty darn good postseason pitcher. 3.33 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 21 games, 10 started.

We've got Hanson going tomorrow. Let's do this.

I hate it that McClouth, Prado and Anderson are out during such a big series. Their replacements went 0-9 last night.

Hanson is a stud. The ROTY is a competition between him and J.A. Haap and frankly I'm not a big Haap fan; BABIP league average is .300 but Haap's stat is only .241 (Hanson is .283) so couple that with the amount of walks he gives up (he allowed 6 walks to Atlanta his last start) and his ERA should start to rise from the 2.50+ he has now.

In the long run, of course Hanson has the higher ceiling b/c of his makeup, stuff and overall potential not to mention the fact that Haap continually pitches up in the zone which isn't good considering his home park.

Going for the series win today....

                Lowe vs. Nolasco

Let's hope Derek can keep it together.

I hate Kelly Johnson playing 2B...Prado better get over his dizzyness and get out there.

When Hanson gets well I'd like to put Lowe into the bullpen. No chance of that happening though. Yeah, it was a great win. I'm proud of the fact that we took two games with the injuries we have.

If Huddy returns to form I expect Lowe to be released or traded next season or maybe moved to the pen if the Braves make the playoffs this season.

Not with that ridiculous $60mil contract...even the Mets GM Minaya wasn't dumb enough to offer that kind of deal. I've heard he's had issues with a blister on his thumb where the ball sits when he throws his 2-seamer/sinker.

Yeah I haven't been too happy with Lowe this year. He has that huge contract and we have 3 guys in the rotation who are better than him, and if Huddy comes back to form (big if) then he's better than him too.

Weird that the Braves were willing to go and spend all that money on Lowe, but (the rumor I heard) Tommy Hanson was kept in the minors for salary reasons. Now imagine if Hanson had been with the club the entire season. We wouldn't have had to see those starts by Reyes and company, and maybe I think we could easily be 3 games better in the standings.

No doubt. That $60mil contract combined with the fact that Lowe will be 37 years old next season pretty much guarantees he won't be going anywhere. Leave it to Frank Wren to pay an aging pitcher $20mil per year.

I don't think we should move anyone to the pen when Huddy returns. I think Cox should utilize a 6-man rotation for the remainder of the season. It would benefit our entire pitching staff as everyone would get an extra day of rest between starts and that could pay dividens down the stretch.
