I'm still rather stunned about the move. Came completely out of nowhere. I wonder how long it will take for Chapman to get to the majors though.

It seems as if your scouts are totally sold on Chapman being a stud in the majors. Now it just depends on how your GM feels about Chapman's development. If they feel that they need help with the bullpen immediately, I can see them bringing Chapman up immediately as a reliever ala Neftali Feliz in the middle of hte seasons last year. However, I would personally keep him in the minors for at least two or three years as a starter to allow his stuff and control to develop and bring him up around 2012.

You better darn hope that Chapman is the real deal because paying a prospect $5MM a year is kind of a lot, lol. It'll be interesting to see how you guys handle such a potentially great pitcher though.

I heard Jerry Crasnick from ESPN basically say the same thing. Patience might be key with this guy. But, paying him all that money, you better hope he pans out. It's hard not wanting to see an instant return.

I think they'll start him out in the minors as a SP, and hopefully they don't get antsy if the team struggles and bring him up before he's ready. It's a delicate process. This is big though.

Otherwise, I'm pretty lukewarm about the season. I guess it's still a ways off. Another close to .500 season, it's getting old having the same preseason expectations.

I'm always excited for the baseball season but yea I see the Reds having another mediocre year. Typical good start and then plummet after the All-Star break. But I still have hopes for the Reds and hopefully they can stay consistent all year.

Do we dare create a new thread for the Reds for 2010 or keep this one going?

I think we should create a new one. One of you guys can do the honors. I think I created the 2008 thread.

This is about the least optimistic I have been for a Reds team.....however that may be a good sign since the last time I was at this level was the '99 season.
