    2010 Cincinnati Reds

Figured I would start this the and put an end to the '09 thread. It's almost Spring Training and I can't wait for the baseball season.

However I'm not very optimistic for the Reds this year. Excited to see them pick up Chapman this off-season but we will see in a couple years if he is the real thing.

How do you guys think the Reds will do this year?

Oh man, every year I have my hopes up for my Redlegs! Hope they do very well this year. But usually they find a way to start out strong, and then suck in the middle of the season, when it really counts.

    We'll see what happens.

Thoughts on the Orlando Cabrera signing? I've always liked him. I'm a little worried about him possibly being a defensive liability, but we'll see.

I'm not a huge Cabrera fan, but hes an upgrade over Janish. Cabrera is still an above average SS defensively, not the same range as before.

          Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds

The past few years I have been ready for baseball season to start about now. This year UK is good again so my love for baseball is put off by my extreme love for UK. Although I am really jonesing to play The Show 10 so I guess my baseball enthusiasm is there at least a little bit.

With that said, I don't have many thoughts for the upcoming season yet. I figure the Reds will start off pretty good and by the All Star break, fall apart as they do every year. Probably have many injuries as well.

My hope is that the young pitching staff, along with Harang and Arroyo, get a boost from the new pitching coach. I hope and think that if Votto keeps his head on straight that he will have what could be an MVP like year, although I doubt he would win it. I think and hope that Bruce will finally stay healthy and have the light go off and be one of the better players in baseball as he was pegged to be. I think Phillips will be rock steady as usual. I think Center field will be a question mark as well as left field. I think we will see some more youngins make the team either from Spring or sometime in the year and I hope they aren't rushed and perform the way they are projected to or better.

Really it is just too early to tell. Plus this team lets me down year after year. However, I am very pleased with the couple of off season pick ups we have had. I like the Cabrera signing because it is only one year and maybe will give Janish more ammunition to learn to hit better because if he did, he would be one of the more valuable SS's in the game.

I'm excited about the signing of Cabrera, just because of the possibilities.

I'm starting to get antsy for baseball too. Usually when the Reds are pretty much out of it, that's when I lose interest, but once football is starting to wind down, I start wanting baseball back. I'm not much of a basketball fan, so I'm most just football and baseball.

The Reds are good at letting us Reds fans down, but every year we're with them as much as we can be!

Willy Taveras and Rosales traded to the A's for Aaron Miles and PTBNL. I'm certainly glad Taveras is gone, but I'm not expecting Miles to bounce back from last year. He was injured for a while, and hit terribly when he wasn't injured. This move saves the reds some money also.

I really liked Rosales, and I think I thought Taveras was pretty decent too. I'll admit, I haven't followed the offseason too much, but usually the Reds do some offseason things that I end up disagreeing with...but I'm not the coach, they obviously think that this will benefit the team. I hope so.

the only real moves you should be overly concerned with are Chapman who is a lefty clocked as high as 102mph, and Orlando Cabrera who is getting old but can still hit pretty well.

Som other interesting ones, but will likely take a while before we have any idea if they were good moves or not.

How could you possibly think Taveras was "pretty decent"?????
The guy was not going to play over our young OF's and it gets rid of his ridiculous contract.
I did like Rosales' hustle but he will never be more then a back up IF in the bigs.
I absolutely love the Cabrera signing, it would have been a very long year with Janish as the every day SS.

So it is never too early to post my opening day starting line up.
Remember we play the Cards so either Carpenter or Wainright will start.

CF Stubbs-put him in the line up everyday and leave him alone.
SS Cabrera-great pick up for the Reds, good #2 hitter.
1B Votto-the face of the franchise will have a monster year.
2B Phillips-not a great clean up hitter but is our only option here.
3B Rolen-great clubhouse guy, plays a great 3b (Thank God EE is gone!)
RF Bruce-needs to be more patient at the plate, great arm in RF
LF Dickerson-only list him because there really is no one else, I am not a fan. (Need Gomes)
C Hernandez-kind of surprised they resigned him, shows they dont trust Hannigan.
P Arroyo-I am pretty sure Harrang will get the opening day start but Bronson is more diserving.

                          Taveras was horrible.

I'm really interesting in seeing who might make the club out of Spring Training. Laynce Nix and Justin Lehr are non-roster invitees. Both *could* make the club. I'm high on Wladimir Balentien as a potential LF or 4th outfielder. Looking forward to see how Bill Bray bounces back from injury. Interested to see if Carlos Fisher can make the opening day roster.

Juan Francisco and Yonder Alonso are coming soon, maybe not this year, but soon. I'm super interested in Chris Heisey. Wondering if he could start the season at LF with a strong spring trainng. Really want to see who takes the 5th starter spot too.

I know I'm probably seen as too optimistic, but I see a wildcard team here if we can get some pitching from the #4 and #5 starters.

                              Starting 5

                              RHP Aaron Harang
                              RHP Bronson Arroyo
                              RHP Johnny Cueto
RHP Homer Bailey/RHP Micah Owings (?)
LHP Matt Maloney/RHP Justin Lehr/LHP Aroldis Chapman/RHP Mike Lincoln (?)
