Well, Volquez gave us 1 2/3 innings. I still believe my points have made the difference so far. 4-0 Phils. Give Halladay a 4 run lead and it looks bleak.

We can't even get on base.

i was just telling my dad about the game so far and when i told how Halladay was doing, it sounded like i was teaching music class

      1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3...
we gotta get someone on base! i bet Roy thinks he can throw 20 perfect innings against us now

I'm not sure anyone would have got to Halladay today. He still has the same nasty movement in the 8th inning he had in the 1st.

          Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds

I just woke up in the middle of the night here...I had to look online to make sure that really happened. I'm still in shock/denial that we really got no-hit in game 1 of our playoff series. that's disgusting....

the only good that really came out of it was that it was the first no-hitter I've ever watched all the way through.
and it got to the point going into the 8th and 9th, where even as a very distraught Reds fan, I sort of wanted to see history. Like, I sat there thinking, the only way I want to see this broken up, is if it leads to a come back (which clearly wasn't going to happen). I didn't want to see someone get a bloop single with 2 outs, and then have the game end after that.

and in defense of Volquez (if you can defend him); I had no clue the Phillies were that patient of a hitting club. The times I've seen them, they usually swing a good bit. Yesterday, they were just taking everything. and if it came anywhere near the plate, they would just reach out and foul it off until they got a pitch they wanted. I can only imagine how discouraged Edinson must have felt.

But, in the grand scheme of things, this is still just 1 game. The good that comes out of this - the Reds have A LOT of hits left in their bats.

Yeah, a tough, tough pill to swallow in Game 1. If anything, I'm kind of glad it happened this way. It's the playoffs, against the best team in the NL, maybe in the Majors. It's serious, the players they have are some of the best in the game at what they do. And they've all been here before. It's a bit of a clinic in postseason behavior, if you will.

Reds have to come out tomorrow and be focused and ready to go. Cueto and Arroyo have actually been our best pitchers this year, so we've got that going for us, numbers be damned. Plus, you can't get no hit twice in one series, right?

            Right?

We've got to build something, pitch by pitch. Phils are going to make you work for everything. Let's keep it close and utilize that bench.

            Go Reds.

Halliday was incredible, thats all there is to it.

I know most people are saying the strike zone was fair, I thought it was a little wide for Roy. But thats fine, as long as you have the same zone for both pitchers. I thought Volquez didnt get several calls that Halladay did. Probably wouldnt have made a difference because he was just off to start and again, Halliday was amazing, but there has to be some consitency.

Halliday was in the ZONE yesterday. in their previous meeting, he didn't get that 1st pitch strike over. THIS time, he was money w/ his 1st pitch, Reds hitters were TOO patient & not aggressive enough. I saw this pattern for the most part...1st pitch FB for strike, 2nd was a breaking ball that fell off the table, & the 3rd he got the Reds fishing w/ outside the zone or a splitter. Our hitters were off balance period. props to Halliday tho...he was the sheeeit yesterday fo sho.

well, even though the post season didn't go as we planned, this was still a pretty awesome season

hopefully next year, we'll get a team that can hang with the big boys

Marty and the Cowboy were talking on the radio about how if Chapman is going to be a starter, someone among the many guys competing for a spot in the rotation next spring is going to get traded. I say, trade one of those pitchers to get a big bat to play LF.

Well everything has to fit in financially. Also, I'm not sure if I'd like LF more than a SS. LF might be better, since there's not a really solid power bat to slot in at 5/6 (wherever Bruce doesn't play), although Gomes was a great RBI guy this year. But at the same time, SS has really been a revolving door the past few years. Also, Alonso may be able to play LF so you wonder where he goes if he's able to play in the majors next season. He has to go into LF, right?

It's definitely an interesting dilemma, but I'm sure Jocketty will make the right decision.

EDIT: Seems like a lot of people think Janish will just step in. In that case LF would definitely be what Jocketty is looking for.

And on those pitchers, I'm really looking forward to the future. Right now I'd say Harang is really hurting the Reds with his contract. His contract pretty much says that he has to play next year, but at this point the Reds are probably feeling like they have to play their younger arms. Volquez/Cueto/Arroyo/Bailey/Chapman or something of the sort (toss in Leake or Wood or whoever looked promising this season) would be best for the team, and they may have to take a financial hit in order to dump him off. But if the Reds had a guy like Chapman painting the strike zone with 100 mph fast balls going into the playoffs, I'd feel so much better about the Reds making the WS. Hopefully he can get there next year.

Great, great season-it was a blast to watch this year!
With that being said I cant wait till next year.
Huge need at LF and SS next year, this team will look alot different next year.
Harang, Hernandez, Cabera, Nix, and maybe Gomes will all be gone.
Also what to do with Rolen??? The guy is showing his age and really broke down late in the year.
                        My rotation
                        Arroyo
                        Cueto
                        Volquez
                        Wood
                        Chapman
I would use Leake out of the pen and fill him in if any of the above 5 are injured.

I also just read the Rhodes wants to come back which is really good news.
Janish will get the first crack to play SS I would think, again we really need one more big RH bat. Most likely a LF although I have no idea who that would be.

Here is a great article breaking down the Reds current financial situation by Hal McCoy:

Interesting stuff, I didnt realize how many guys are getting a raise next season.
