Are we not sold on Coghlan yet?

    Pencil him in.

After last year's peformance and his strong start this season, I think he's earned it.

He's not a very good fielder though. But if Olt is hurt when Bryant comes up he will be safe.

        Coghlan > Olt

I'd rather have Coghlan in LF hitting like a Major Leaguer than Olt at 3B hitting like a 4A player

No I definitely agree, but Olt is really good defensively at 3rd. Not sure if they are willing to sacrifice that or not. Especially seeing this Bryant in LF thing seems to be a real thing.

Maybe you can move Coghlan to 3rd? I believe he did play some in college.

Hitting I'm sold on Coghlan. Fielding though he may be the worst defensive LF in MLB.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread

Since last year, Coghlan has a .355 OBP and a .808OPS

Not MVP numbers, but better than Castro, if that matters.

I know the demands and expectations of their respective positions are different, but just sayin...
And he CAN'T be the worst defensive LF...and with Fowler and Soler covering more than their share, that shouldn't be too big of an issue, right? lol

surely several teams would be excited about a third OFer that could provide that kind of production, and I think the Cubs should be one of them.

I don't mind Bryant becoming a Left Fielder, have supported the idea in the long term...but it's a lot harder to get good production from 3B than LF...

I sure hope they don't intend for Olt to be the answer for more than a few months.

                Fowler 8
                Soler 9
                Rizzo 3
                Bryant 5
                Coghlan 7
                Castro 6
                Catcher
                2B
                P

                That's a world-class 1 thru 6

The numbers are better because Coghlan has been playing in a platoon role.

As long as Matt Holliday plays in the NL, no one else can be considered the worst LF in baseball.

LOve that Maddon is kinda shuffling the lineup each day...though sometimes it makes me scratch my head...

                      BUT, wtf, Joe?
Castro on 2nd, Alcantara on 1st...Wood at the plate...2 run lead, no out...um...why not sacrifice those guys over?

Herrera singled in Castro, but come on...you can't treat the bottom of the order like you do the top. Cost the team a run.

OMG they're IBB Rizzo to load the bases for SOLER!
                        C'mon, Jorge!!

Wow...awful AB...swung at 3 pitches out of the zone...then gets HBP! lolo
                        Perfect

Edit: to get that run back, they had to steal a base on a strikeout, get an IBB, and a HBP...yuck.

I tend to forget this...but I'm still ok with it.
When the lefty-hitting side of your platoon is doing that well, it's worth continuing.

Despite not playing the best ball they are winning games so that's a good thing. Makes you kind of excited for when they do put it together huh?

                              Right on...

Those decisions are managerial, though...(Deciding to let Wood swing away with no out and 2 on instead of sac bunt)

I certainly have faith in the bulk of this team, and can't wait to see what it's like when everyone is settled in. Shouldn't be long.

Currently, we have a lineup with almost 2.5 easy outs. Gonna have to manufacture runs to get a lot out of 7-9, but it can be done.
