I have a feeling Theo will be making a move soon to bolster the pen. I just hope he doesn't overpay.

I wondered how the team would "react" to it...better than the silent treatment...

Put Montero in the lead-off spot. Great walk rate, OBP. Strikes out at average rate for the team, no biggie.

He's hitting #4 today...Bryant, Rizzo, Montero...team's three best OBP guys.

But that puts a base-clogger in front of a couple of guys that can run. You also lose some protection for Rizzo.

This Cubs and Mets game has been a pretty awesome pitching duel between Jake and that rookie pitcher

“I believe if you treat the game the right way, it will treat you the right way back,” Bryant said. “That’s how I approach the game and always will.”

Perfect quote. I've told my sons this quite a few times. The Baseball Gods are always watching.

Right...because Fowler getting out, and Rizzo having to get on and steal a base is better than the greater likelihood of Montero and Rizzo both being on base.

I don't care if Rizzo ever steals another base lol. I'd rather have two men on with Bryant up.

Fowler's role and ability, offensively, is to get on base. This is especially so if he's going to bat in front of the big guys, whether leadoff or otherwise. He's not fulfilling those responsibilities. It's early in the season, he's not doing an abysmal job, he's walking well enough to get OB at a .350 clip...but Montero is doing everything a leadoff hitter should do, and better than Fowler...

Speed on the basepaths? Even if Fowler got on he's going to steal <12 bases. Big deal. I can't imagine Montero being slow will cost more runs than his being OB more frequently.

If Maddon can be "unconventional" and bat the SP 8th, surely this isn't too much of a stretch...

Rizzo with the heady play, letting a popped-up bunt drop on the infield to turn an easy 2 on Harvey who wasn't running. Could be huge in a 1 run game.
