Re: "This one belongs to Reds fans" Official 2012 Cincinnati Reds

Ahh, the ol' sabermetrics versus eye-test.

Yeah, I'm staying out of this. On one hand, I love the save stat and knowing that Chapman is that blow-you-away Super Reliever. But I can't deny the numbers. They don't lie, as they say.

So it's coming down to this... as a Cincinnati Reds fan, I just want to WIN. Consistently. Whether Chapman or Marshall is closing, as long as we're winning, so be it. Even if one guy gives us a better CHANCE, as long as there IS a chance, ... just win, baby.

Of course, I disagree with the article on the quality of the offense. Last year the Reds were second in the NL in offense and almost all of those players are still around. I would bet that the team will get on an offensive hot streak at some point and start moving up the runs scored ladder.

I'm heading down to the ballpark tonight....that's usually not a good thing. :/

But I'll be rocking my Votto jersey in the moon deck.

Hinske just put his head down with the strike 3 and was like, yuppppp.
                  He knew it was coming.
I didn't know the ball went out on the final play. 5 in a row is amazing!

The problem for Marshall is that those grounders are finding holes (.480 avg on grounders). His line drive rates and groundball-to-flyball ratios are in line with what he has done the past couple seasons.

Chapman's value is not as a closer (unless Dusty plans on mixing in some 2 inning saves...I doubt it). You really want your best reliever in there getting the tough outs in the 7th and 8th innings...not 3 outs in the 9th against the bottom of the order in a 3 run game.
All i need to know is Marshall has allowed 11 hits the last 4 innings he has pitched, while Chapman has allowed 7 hits all year in his 24.1 IP.
Also the ball Angel Pagan hit off Marshall a while back wasnt a ground ball. It was a 3 run HR that cost the Reds the game. Marshall has had 3 really bad outings this year. Chapman has had none.

I think the point is those 11 hits should have been less than that, they're just finding holes. Over the course of a season, it'll balance out. Still... it is what it is. They WERE hits.

Pretty sure that's how it goes. I don't know much at all about the advanced metrics and stuff.

Pagan should've been out but the ump blew a clear strike and ruled it a ball. Pitch or two later, HR, game over.

But whatever. We're on a 5 game winning streak, beating a pretty good Atlanta team. Let's keep on rolling. I think it was VERY important that we stayed right around .500 even when we all knew the Reds weren't playing ball up to their potential. If we're average (record-wise) when we're not playing well... then it's scary what we will be putting up (wins-wise) when we are playing good ball.

The NL Central is ours to lose. We're the most talented team in the division, in my opinion. We just have to put it together on the field.

most amazing stat of the four game sweep:

10 HR's, none by Votto or Bruce

Obviously, I'd like the Reds to be better about producing runs and not just hitting homeruns, but nice to see the pop off other bats

We are officially in first in the NL Central.

I took pleasure in watching the local game (PHI @ STL), and watching the Reds big rival take a loss (Phils made it damn interesting, it was 6-0 PHI when I walked in to the establishment).

Also took pleasure in $2 drinks for all Phils games.

My fiance' wants me to go to a Reds/Phillies game, but I told her no. I'm not wearing my colors in Philly. I've seen too much harassment and violence towards visiting fans. I wouldn't even be rowdy and arrogant if the Reds do play well, but I just don't feel like dealing with the bull****. She says I should just go and not root for my team, just enjoy the game. I told her it doesn't work like that. She really tried to argue with me about it! She doesn't understand that, especially in a place like Philadelphia, people treat sports like it's religion and it's a shame I'm too scared to get harassed or assaulted to be able to watch my favorite team in person for the first time.

I'd rather make the trip to Cincinnati to take in a few games with the support of my fellow Reds fans. That's a hell of a hike, but I think it would be worth it. Some day...
