    Padres fan here.

Latos has ace-stuff, I think we all know that. I just hope Dusty can coach him enough to get his act together. All in all, a fair trade to both teams. I'm really excited about Grandal and Alonzo.

      Now lets re-sign Brandon Phillips.
I agree completely with what you say, especially with getting Phillips resigned.
That being said I still think Cueto will be a #1, he has a very good year last year and is only getting better.

I think the Padres got a better deal out of it, but hopefully it turns out good for both franchises. I think Alonso will be an all star and grandal a good starting catcher, maybe Volquez can reinvigorate his career at a pitchers park.

Hopefully Latos has an amazing year, but I don't know.
I dont think you could be more wrong on this trade.
The Reds gave up a bunch of guys that were never going to play for them and got a front of the rotation pitcher. It was a great deal for the Reds. They also got Volquez away from Cueto which i am hearing was a big deal for the Reds. I am hearing Volquez has a very negative impact on Cueto when they are together.
I also love the Marshall for Wood trade. We gave up a pitcher who was never going to start for us this year and got a great LH arm for our bullpen. Wood was horrible last year and was going in as the 8th starter in the org.

I trully dont see Alonso ever being an all star.
Is he going to be better than Votto, Fielder, Howard, ect ect? I think not and he would have to beat out those guys to get to an all star game. Also his HR #'s are going to dip big time playing in the Padres ballpark.

Good points Jake. If true,Volquez needs to grow up. Texas got rid of him for the same type of stuff.

                I like this one too.
They gave Wood every chance to be a starting pitcher last year and he really struggled. He was never going to crack their rotation this year. So once again they gave 3 guys that were not going to help them and got a great LH reliever.

So, Billy Hamilton, I think is on the right track for the time being. What do you guys think of him? 103 steals does it for me. haha

The only thing that makes me apprehensive about that trade is that Marshall is a free agent after the year. I liked Sappelt, but that definitely bolsters are bullpen.
I can't wait to see Billy Hamilton in the upper minors to see how he does, 100 stolen bases in any league is impressive.

This is another great signing by Walt.
The Reds pitching staff has added Latos, Marshall and now Madson this offseason.
                        GREAT WORK WALT!

This has been one hell of a Reds offseason. Great additions to the team + Barry Larkin being inducted into the HOF. This is going to be an exciting team in 2012.

Love, love, LOVE the Madson signing. I'm in Phillies territory, and people are hurt that Madson isn't with them anymore. He really became a good pitcher the last few years.

I think it's going to be a great season for Madson, I'm just a bit peeved it's only one year for us.

Assuming he's going to slide into the closer role?

Despite making the playoffs in '10, I didn't thing there were enough dependable arms to get there in '11. I was right on that score, but in '12 I'm expecting a return to the playoffs
