Hopefully, Sean Marshall will be able to slot into the closer's role. I still want to see Chapman in the rotation, and his work this spring shows that's he is making major strides. He's certainly looked better than Homer Bailey.

Ain't gonna happen. Hamels wants to stay in Philly.

It kind of boggles the mind that they might send Chapman back to the bullpen. Isn't that why they signed him in the first place? To start?

Its not going to matter if he wants to stay if the Philllies want to trade him.
The Phil's have so many injuries in the infield they may be forced to trade a pitcher.

I love what Phillips brings to us, but that would be an enticing offer. Watch a good amount of Phils games and Hamels is a very good pitcher with the talent to be an ace. I wouldn't put him up there with the best of the best, but when he's on, he's great.

Would just have to gauge Phillips willingness to re-up and make or don't make the best move for the club.

Re: Madson. DAMN IT. Awful news, not just for the Reds, but for Madson himself. He's been such a horse for the Phillies, doing whatever he needed to; throwing a few innings, setting up, or coming in to close last year. He finally gets his break and signs on as a full time closer, and this happens. What a drag. As for the team, this definitely puts a damper on the offseason and the beginning of the year for us, but I think we still have a strong bullpen otherwise. Relief pitching is so tough to judge year-to-year anyway, so it's hard to say what was good last year will be effective this year, but damn. Would've loved to have Madson closing 'em out for the Reds this season. Hopefully Marshall, and NOT Chapman (I want him to work on starting), can get the job done. Or another pitcher in the 'pen can step up and fill in as a set-up or closer if Marshall falters.

Hoping for a successful recovery for Madson! Maybe we can bring him in next year if he's right. He'll make a great early/mid season addition to any club if his arm comes back healthy.

Hoover could turn out to be a great reliever. He has good numbers. I didn't like the fact that Francisco showed up to camp overweight and, frankly, despite his raw power, he hasn't impressed me at the major league level. Maybe the kid needed a change of scenery.

PS - I really hate Francisco's swing. Not a reason to trade a guy but I'm not sure how he can have success at the highest level with that swing.

                      Todd Frazier.
He has been killing it this spring,I believe he has 6 hrs.
He will play about every 4th game or so at 3rd to keep Rolen fresh.
The Reds made a good choice by trading Juan and giving the backup job to Fraier, he can also play LF if Heisey or Ludwick get hurt.
They decided Juan wast the future and Frazier is, very good choice.

Sounds like BP era could be over, unless he gives Reds a discount.

Joey Votto and the Reds are close to a long-term contract extension. Votto confirmed a report by mlbtraderumors.com “I can’t comment till it’s done,” he said. “You’ll have to ask Walt (Jocketty). It’s a gray area. I’ll be much more forthcoming later.”

First of all, it is so short-sighted to send Chapman back to the bullpen. I don't care if there have been injuries. The Reds have a great shot to win the division....as long as the Toothpick doesn't cost them too many games.

Secondly, if the Reds lock up Votto to this extension, it will be buh-bye to Phillips. Hate to see that, but there are some exciting prospects in the minors that play second base. The cupboard is far from bare.

I agree completely, so unless he wants to stay for a discount he is gone. Hopefully to an AL team.
I can't wait to see what Billy Hamilton does in the minors this year, he could be a successor to Phillips.
