    This division is winnable.

I've got to be respectful and give props where they are due, the Cardinals should be the favorite of this division, even minus Pujols. I think guys like Jay, Freese, etc are going to step in to combine to fill in for Pujols numbers and they'll have a good year.

Pittsburgh should be stronger. I think Chicago stays about even and Milwaukee takes a bit of a step back. Houston may be better but still finish under .500.

This team should be hungry and envious that their division brought home a World Series title and it isn't sitting in Cincinnati.

We should be right there in fighting for the division or one of the wild cards. That format is going in effect this coming season, yes?

Brewer fan... I'm come in peace... I gotta admit I'm afraid to see who or if Walt adds someone to platoon with Heisey in left... If Walt gets the Reds someone decent, look out NL Central!! I hate to say this but I really like the team being put together in Cincy, it going to be a fun year watching my Brewers battle with the Reds for the NL Central title... But with that said... GO BREWERS!!!

          Reds To Sign Ryan Ludwick

          By Ben Nicholson-Smith [January 16, 2012 at 9:09pm CST]
The Reds have agreed to sign free agent outfielder Ryan Ludwick to a one-year deal that includes a mutual option for 2013, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. Ludwick gets a $2.5MM guarantee and could earn another $500K in incentives, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets. Beverly Hills Sports Council represents Ludwick, who played for Cincinnati GM Walt Jocketty in St. Louis.
Ludwick, who can play left and right field, gives the Reds some much-needed outfield depth. Like left fielder Chris Heisey, Ludwick is a right-handed hitter. However, Ludwick has hit right-handers (.804 OPS) better than left-handers (.751 OPS) in his nine-year career.
Ludwick, 33, posted a .237/.310/.363 line with 13 homers for the Padres and Pirates in 2011. His batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage all dropped for the third consecutive season. However, UZR/150 suggests Ludwick has played average defense in the outfield corners in recent years.

Not sure how i feel about signing Ludwick, one thing is for sure Walt is going for it this year.
They also signed Dionner Navaro (spelling) to a minor league contract.
They did get Ludwick pretty cheap.
I would prefer the give the LF job to Heisey but we shall see. The only thing with Heisey is he has a hard time staying healthy.

I like the Ludwick signing. I think he will have solid numbers in GABP. It's a low risk/high reward signing.

W/ the moves being made at pitcher, are we a serious threat now? A lot of sites have us picked 1 or 2 in the division, but making the playoffs either way

I agree. The Central Division is theirs for the taking this year. They have put together a post-season type of team but I worry that they might not get past a team like Philadelphia with that pitching staff. I think if the clutch hitting is better this year, and they get good lead-off hitting as well, that will go a long way towards helping this club compete at an elite level. I want to see fewer strikeouts in critical situations. I actually want to see fewer strikeouts period. Heisey, Stubbs, and Bruce could potentially strike out a combined 500 times between the three of them if Heisey gets enough at bats. That's scary. Everybody needs to stay healthy as much as possible too. That kind of goes without saying though.

Last year I didn't think we had enough quality arms, and that ended up being the case. This year I think we can compete for the division title, but I feel like we may be one bat short of being a true contender to win it all. If we're in the hunt in September, I think a couple more prospects may be traded away to get another bopper.

I'm really hoping they've already signed him. Ryan Ludwick can pull it off. He's done it before. GABP might do wonders for his stats.
