I don't care how fast that kid is, if he can't hit, he'll be useless. I know he was only at Dayton last year. Hopefully his hitting will improve. I heard last prior to last season, a goal of his was to steal 100 bases, which he did. I just don't think he worked on anything else.

That is what I am saying. I want to see if he improved his hitting. If he is that fast, he definitely needs to learn to bunt, something Drew Stubbs should do as well.

Totally agree. If Hamilton can become a great bunter and a slap-hitter with doubles or triples power, that would be awesome. I just want a lead-off hitter who is disciplined at the plate while also getting on base a lot.

We need to get someone that can teach both him and Stubbs how to bunt ( Norris Hopper?) They could probably hit .300 by just bunting b/c of their speed.

I read early on that Hamilton was still struggling w/ his bat. Not sure if thru changed later or not.

Was he optioned to Louisville or Dayton again this year?
Hopefully his bat will get better, he is still young and is so so fast

I checked the MiLB.com website and he'll be playing for Bakersfield (A+) to start off. From what I read, his hitting improved in 2011 as the season went on. Still, his numbers were kind of weird looking last season:

                Code:
AVG	G	AB	R	H	2B	3B	HR	RBI	TB	BB	SO	SB	CS	OBP	SLG	OPS

                .278	135	550	99	153	18	9	3	50	198	52	133	103	20	.340	.360	.700
I want to see more walks, fewer strikeouts, and more hits.

                  So, Votto has been extended.

Votto IS the best 1st basemen in the National League. So happy to see the Reds lock him up, as I think the feeling is mutual between the two parties. I believe this deal will satisfy both Votto (money, length/security) & the Reds (production throughout the life of the contract).

A Votto jersey is on my list of things to acquire.

Reds fans need to get over the whole Stubbs needs to learn how to bunt thing.
He's not a bunter, plain and simple. Its not who he is. Do you not think they tried to teach him when he was younger in the minors? They did and he couldnt now lets move on.
Stubbs is who he is and thats not a bunter.
It kills me that everyone says he should be bunting all the time because he is fast.
People need to realize he is also RH. He loses the ability to be a great drag bunter because he is RH and he is a step farther away from 1b being RH.
I know, I know Norris Hopper was a great bunter and he was RH. Where is Hopper now?? Without looking him up on the internet where is he playing now? So I guess being a great bunter isnt all it is cracked up to be.

Definitely. So he still probably is a couple years away from the majors if he is in high a ball.

I went down to the Reds vs Futures exhibition game tonight. The Futures won 2-1 in 7 innings. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy about the future of the club but I wondered a bit why the Reds only managed 3 hits off of Daniel Corcino and the rest of the minor leaguers. Still, Chapman looked great, Marshall came in and got an out, Leake, I think, gave up a HR to Donald Lutz. I'm sure the young guys were more geeked up for the game. Hopefully the Reds can't get off to a good start on Thursday.

I was most impressed by J.J. Hoover...dude can DEAL!

The Reds claimed right-handed pitcher Alfredo Simon off waivers from the Orioles on Tuesday.

Simon had been with Baltimore since he broke into the big leagues in 2008. Expected to be used in Cincinnati's bullpen, the 30-year-old is 8-12 lifetime with a 5.18 ERA in 78 games, including 36 starts. As a reliever last season, Simon was 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 21 1/3 innings over seven games. For his career as a reliever, he's 5-3 with a 5.21 ERA in 59 appearances.

"I'm studying him now," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "We told everybody we would still be looking over the waiver wire and seeing if we could find somebody with big league experience. It appears that we found somebody."
