Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
Really love what I heard about bringing Bourn back, but I have to say, I think his demands/expectations are absurd.
The guy is a great glove and baserunner, but he set a career high in strikeouts last year (155) and had his lowest stolen base total since his first full year in the bigs (partly because of Atlanta's approach). I would love to have him back, but you can't break the bank to get this guy.
Finally, if you do go get him, he MUST play CF. Half of his value is his glove...putting him left makes him much less valuable. Upton isn't the defensive player Bourn is and hits for more power...putting him in left doesn't lower his value as much IMO."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I haven't been following much on Bourn's FA, but has any team been linked to him? He is waiting a long time to not getting any serious offers.Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
It sounded like the Mariners for a while, but they don't make sense because they lose a first round draft pick for singing him and they'd rather have the draft pick (sense they are rebuilding). Then it was the Rangers, but they have Gentry and a young guy who are slotted to split time in CF and they decided not to spend on him. Everyone else who needed a CF already got one, so he hasn't had a serious offer/discussion in weeks."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Dude...where have you been? It's not 2009, the Nationals are probably on paper the best team in the NL and maybe in all of MLB. No way they finish 4th."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
The East is goin' to be a close race,
first to fourth place won't be separated by more than 4 games.
The Marlins are the only ones I'm writin' off before the season begins.
They may finish 20 games back.Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
I think it's way too early to tell since the FA'cy isn't even over yet. But right now, I think the Nationals would still be way ahead of everybody in the East. That's IF Strasburg can bounce back. I'm somewhat suspicious of his return not sure how that whole debacle thing may have affected his mentality.Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
We're not getting Bourn. There is around 8-10 million left in the payroll, and there is no way he signs with us for less than what we're paying Bossman, and there is even less of a chance that Boras lets him ink for 10 million or less.
Bourn is arguably the best fielding CF in the majors, and he's coming of a career year in the field and at the plate. He may not wind up with the as many guaranteed years as he and Boras were hoping, but he is going to sign at an anual rate that will be close to double what we could offer him.
Justin Upton on the other hand... I could still see that happening. Now, more than everComment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
But who gives him what he's asking? The market is what drives a player's price and the demand dried up REAL quick when the Nats got Span, the Phillies got Revere, and the teams that could sign him don't want him (Rangers/Mariners). I guess Philly could still go get him (see Amaro's comments about their OF), but if no one is offering him he has to take what he gets. Would love to see a 1 yr/10-12 million deal.Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
I would LOVE to be wrong about Bourn, and I still think he's a great fit on Atlanta's roster... Even if that means hurting Upton's feelings by moving him to left.
But... In Scott Boras I trust(Eww, that sounds gross..), and the market be damned. It'll cost them a few bucks, I'm sure, but he's going to get something decent that would price him out of anything close to what the Braves can offer.
Only time will tell, but I have a feeling that I'll be quoting this post to gloat sooner or later. Now, more than everComment
