Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
What do you guys think about ESPN's article about the best OFs? They had...
1) Angels
2) Braves
3) Rangers
4) Nats
5) A's
Hard to argue when the Angels have Trout, Hamilton, Borjous, and even trumbo....Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
So many strikeouts in this lineup. Wow.
Is there an MLB version of NFL Game Rewind, with condensed versions of games? If there is, I may start following the Braves again just to check out this outfield. Lost interest in baseball a few years ago, but if I'm able to get through a game in a fraction of the time via something like that it may renew my interest somewhat.Last edited by bichettehappens; 01-27-2013, 01:58 PM.Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
I agree with #1 and #2. But how are the Rangers #3? Cruz (.260/.319/.460), Martin (.174/.235/.370), and Murphy (.304/.380/.479) is the 3rd best OF in baseball? And where are the Dodgers?Comment

I said that we need to take position players in the first few rounds before we traded away Ahmed, but we really really need to draft quite a few in the early rounds this draft. I'm disappointed Lipka hasn't panned out.Cleveland Browns

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
But the dude is already 26 and that's his highest level to this point. For reference, he's 5 years older than Bethancourt. He's also older than Heyward, Justin Upton, Francisco, Simmons, and Freeman (63% of your starting lineup). I think he's either David Ross, a good offensive backup catcher, or he's a right handed bat off the bench if he can get more time in at 1B and the corner OF spots (which they started doing last year).Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
Btw, this is apparently (according to ESPN) the lineup Fredi has said he'd like to go with:
1. Simmons
2. Heyward
3. J. Upton
4. Freeman
5. BJ Upton
6. McCann
7. Uggla
8. Johnson/FranciscoComment

I wish we could have Heyward batting 3rd, but there is no one else on the roster that fits the mold of a 2 hitter.Cleveland Browns

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
I'm actually of the school of thought that the "traditional" batting order is antiquated. Statistically, your three best hitters should be your #2 hitter, your #4 hitter (this guy should have the most power of this group), and your leadoff hitter (high OBP). Then it's your #5 hitter, and then your #3 hitter. The #3 hitter shouldn't necessarily be one of your top guys. Statistically, if you assume McCann, Uggla, and the Uptons 2012 seasons were anomalies, and they'll rubberband back to their norms in 2013, the lineup should look something like this:
1. McCann
2. J. Upton
3. Uggla
4. Heyward
5. Freeman
6. B.J. Upton
7. Simmons
8. Francisco
Speed is actually more beneficial in the middle of the lineup than at the top, because the guys at the bottom of the lineup typically aren't going to have as much power, so the stolen base becomes more valuable, and a caught stealing becomes less harmful because it isn't happening with a big hitter at the plate.Comment

Would still seem really strange to have Mac leading off.Comment

Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread
I think Uggla would be better at leadoff than anyone on the roster if Simmons doesn't hit well there. He strikes out a lot, but he does take tons of walks too.Cleveland Browns
