    Re: 2013 Atlanta Braves Thread

I wasn't happy to lose Viscaino last year, but wow ... Malholm is about the best pitcher on our team since the trade not named Medlen. This guy has been OUTSTANDING, and the lefty combo of him and Minor is tough to beat this year.

If Teheran doesn't break out, we've got Beachy coming back, and I fear what this staff looks like when he (and Venters for the pen) makes his way back.

I'm still optimistic about Teheran. I thought he pitched better than his line score showed in his first game, and he really found his way after the first couple innings on Friday.

Really happy with the sweep as I just really don't like the Nationals.

So if my math is correct, we've hit 25 homers so far this season and only given up 26 runs total. That's not bad.

The Marlins have hit 2 or 3 as a team. That's brutal. Just brutal.

McCann begins his rehab assignment today. So probably two weeks until he's activated. I love Gattis, but his average is dropping, so I'm guessing he will probably head to Gwinnett to make room for B-Mac.

I'm not going to say panic....it's a LONG season and no one is 12-1 good (we got very lucky to be 12-1). This is still a good team...at least I think so. What I want to point out though is that Frank Wren has handed out 8 years, 107 Million to two players who can't hit and strike out a tone (Uggla/Upton). As much a I love Uggla for his hustle/work ethic, the guy is turning into Adam Dunn as a secondbaseman (walk/homer/k).

Anyway, this team will be fine and I can't wait for Heyward, McCann, etc to all be back and this lineup to be complete...it just struck me watching this team the last few days how much money we have sunk into players who can't hit.

Uggla typically starts slow. Ironically, except for last year, which was by far the worst season of his career. I'm not too worried about him. He's still on pace for 28 hr (tied for the lead among NL second basemen), and his leadership is important. Him and Upton can both certainly hit. Their both just very streaky. Upton is more concerning to me. He's pressing. A lot. But at least he plays good defense. But while neither guy is adding a lot statistically, I think they're both really important. Upton plays great defense, and with his brother off to an MVP start, I don't think it's unrealistic to credit some of Justin's comfort to his big brother being there. And Uggla seems to have taken over Chipper's role as leader of this team.

This start by this team is still amazing to me. A stretch of 18 out of 20 games on the road is brutal. And to cap it off against the defending AL Champs? To be 15-8 at this point, best record in the National League (and run differential), and be 3 games up on Washington is awesome.

Yeah too early to hit the panic button, but I think that we're hoping against the odds for some things to get a lot better. I was never a fan of the BJ Upton signing for $75 million because he's basically Dan Uggla with speed, but we're not even through April yet so I don't want to write him off yet. Even still I'm surprised by the team's lack of production on the bases so far. Part of the problem is that it's pretty much been home run or bust down the lineup so the opportunities may not be have been there, but right now the team is sitting right in the middle of the MLB in steals at 12 and Schafer, who has had just 25 at bats to this point, has 3 of those.

B.J. and Uggla are who they are: .220 hitters with some power and in B.J.'s case some speed.

Upton is a career .253 hitter and Uggla is .252....

Even as much as this team has struggled lately...I love 'em. Love the attitude and heart we've seen so far, love the way they carry themselves, and love that we are in first.

Braves beat the supposedly best Nats bullpen once again

Much needed win, now take the series.

Btw, in case anyone was wondering, the Braves once again lead the majors in bullpen era at a whopping 2.18.

Gotta pad the lead right now while Washington is struggling and banged up.

We had a good game yesterday. Please BJ, please wake up offensively.
