I love the Reds. I am just not feeling this team this year. Definitely nice to be in conversation each year but I am afraid this is not the year. I hope I am wrong.

No issue with Latos abdominal just sore arm and more than confident in Cueto, at this point and our fan base Id rather see this team on the road than playing at home.Comment

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Was at the game today. We stayed for about 5 innings. Spent some time watching the Bengals game on a tv by the Reds gift shop on the lower level inside the ballpark. It was a weird atmosphere. The weather was lousy and so was the play on the field. I have little hope that they'll beat Liriano and the Bucs on Tuesday. I want to believe but the way they finished out the regular season over the last week didn't give me much reason to think they'll win. Pittsburgh wanted it more and I think they will Tuesday too. Hope the Reds prove me wrong!MLB: Cincinnati Reds

90 wins after losing opening day cleanup hitter, 3 DL stints for #1 starting pitcher, significant time missed by setup men in Marshall/Broxton and then #4 OF missing 7 weeks due to injury resulting in playing mostly 5/6/7 depth outfielders majority of year think they finished where they should. 4 straight 90 win seasons hasnt happened since 70's this team/management isnt going anywhere nor should theyComment

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
This team is in dire need of leadership starting with the manager on down. Owl, defend Dusty all you want, and I understand your many arguments, but this team was a total reflection of him with the way they played over the last 6 games. No sense of urgency and these guys had no killer instinct whatsoever. This team is not getting any further than they already have with him in charge. I truly believe that. In addition to that, Jocketty knew this team was lacking real leaders on the field, like a Marlon Byrd or Russell Martin, and he never addressed it. The one guy who I think would have really helped the Reds today from a leadership standpoint was a healthy Mat Latos. The crowd wouldn't have bothered him. Problem is he's one guy, a pitcher, and can't be relied upon for hitting. Where's the leadership on offense? No Scott Rolen. No Greg Vaughn. Nobody like that. Until that's addressed, the Reds are just going to waste the careers of some of these guys like the Bengals have done under the leadership of Marvin Lewis.Comment

lol Scott Rolen, Greg Vaughn really those two were on the downsides of their careers and continue to overlook all my points in previous comment. Byrd has no postseason experience and Martin had his shining moment and is there to strictly control the pitching game. 6 games seriously youre going to overlook their stretch that week beating Dodgers/Cardinals of course typical Cincy fanbaseMLB: Cincinnati Reds

That was a great week. Why couldn't they keep it going? If you're satisfied with winning 90 games every season and getting knocked out in the Wild Card or NLDS every season, good for you. I'm not satisfied. I want them to win a World Series. It's not happening until Dusty is gone and they get some real leadership in the dugout and out on the field. What was wrong with the Rolen and Vaughn acquisitions? Who gives a crap if they were on the downside of their careers? They were acquired for the leadership as well as what they did on the field. Why couldn't the Reds get somebody like that this year? I've heard Byrd has always been a good leader and Martin has led that Bucs team all season. I'm not basing my comment about those two on one game.Comment

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
There is plenty of blame to go around and not all of it is on the coaching staff. Votto is my favorite player but if any 1 player deserves blame for a disappointing season it is him. He is more concerned about drawing walks than he is getting hits, and when your paid as much as he is you got to do more. His defense was terrible this year, and the K's looking was ridiculous this year by him. Everyone is entitled to a down season, and while by baseball standards Votto season wasnt bad but it was not Votto-like and we have to have more from him considering what he is paid. He should give some of his salary to BP, Bruce and Choo cause they carried the offense this year.
No one showed up to play tonight except for Frazier, he looked to be the only one who cared. This team lacks leadership and I dont think its no coincidence that we couldnt come thru in the clutch this year, without Rolen. Up until this year we were 1 of the best teams in baseball for comeback wins over the last few years, and I htink Rolens leadership had a lot to do with that no quit mentality. Even Dusty said earlier this year that there was no leaders on this team and someone needed to step up.
Well I am done with my rant, but I will say I go to opening day every year and if Jacoby isnt fired I might just save my money along wiht not purchasing MLBTV just in protest of that fool still being the hitting coach. If nothing else I want Jacoby along with the Big Dufus Ondrusek gone, even if thats th eonly changes made.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

The guy who needs fired and should have been fired after 2011 is the hitting coach, Brook Jacoby. I like Dusty and he has a lot of good qualities but he is not the guy to get the Reds to take the next step. He deserves some credit for getting the reds back to being 1 of the top teams in baseball.

The leadership thing is also bull. These are professionals; they're always playing hard because it's their job. What happened last night was Liriano can't be hit by lefties and the righties didn't step up. Even more importantly Dusty started a guy that has two starts since the All-Star break, which in my opinion was not smart at all. Cueto was missing the zone by a mile and was put in a spot to fail with the pressure. The game would have looked a lot different if the Reds starter could have gone 6-7 innings while giving up a couple runs to match Liriano.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

Your criticism of Votto doesn't line up with how baseball games are won or Votto's actual plate approach. It's really tiring to see this stuff from Reds fans.

I understand your side on the leadership thing. They are professionals and should play hard. But it's still an element of team. As much as I loathe Yadier Molina, the Reds could really use someone like him. Martin helped provide that for the Bucs this year and them acquiring Byrd only helped. That's why the Reds acquired Vaughn in '99 and Rolen in 2009. It helps to have someone steering the boat. Nobody captained the Reds' ship in 2013.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
