Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
That was my guess when the rumor 1st started on them shopping Bruce. IMO that would be a stupid thing to do, but not surprised by it,lol.
Pitching is where we actually have some descent prospects, where we have basically nothing when it comes to position players, plus pitchers are fragile, and imo just a matter of time before he has a major arm issue. Bruce when healthy might not be a .300 hitter, but he will drive in runs and hit 30 Hr's, and not a lot of power hitters out there these days like that. I think Bruce will come back strong this yr, and will hit like he did in the past.
IM not totally against Bruce being shopped but to get rid of him so they can pay Cueto Im not for at all. They done gave out a bad long term deal with Votto, we don't need another bad deal with Cueto.
I use to like Walt and respect him, but Im thinking he is running us right into the cellar where the North Side loser Cubs belong. Votto's deal already has us handicap, giving Cueto a long deal will seal our fate Im afraid. Small markets just cant do those things and continue to stay competitive year after year. You would of thought that seeing what previous ownership did with Griffey Jr would have taught them something, but it don't look like it.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
If rumors are to be believed, this isn't actually Walt's doing as much as it is Castelleni's, who prefers "homegrown" talent. Same can be said with the Votto extension (which is as stupid now as it was when they signed it).

He probably tore his ACL reading this article.
No doubt Votto's deal was ownerships decision, as any huge deal owners make the final call. They do prefer to keep home grown talent, I think that's why Latos was dealt, and Homer got his deal. Bruce and Cueto are both Home grown, heck most of the team is actually home grown at this point.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Ideally? I would say Iglesias (best stuff of the bunch) and Cingrani. Cingrani has shoulder problems though, and those are always a giant red flag. The Reds will likely turn Iglesias into the next Chapman, which means they will have screwed up again.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Im thinking Cingrani goes to the pen as well. With his problem with staying healthy that might be best, and he was a closer in college, and seems to have the mentality to come out of the pen. Along with the fact he don't have any confidence in nay pitch but his FB, so he seems to be th elogical choice for the pen.
Iglesias hasn't ever been a starter, but they seem to be leaning towards him attempting to do it, but Im not sure he will get a spot in the rotation out of ST'ing anyway. IM curious to see him as I don't know much about him.
I can see that Desclafani, or however you spell his name we got from the Marlins getting 1 of the spots out of ST'ing. Not sure who might get the other spot at this time. They did sign Jason Marqious to a Minor league deal, so if he pitches well during spring I wont be surprised if he gets a spot on the rotation, although I don't have much faith in him, basically just another Jeff Francis scrub that I wouldn't have bothered with if it was me.
Holmberg had a couple good starts at the end of the season, so I think if he carries that over to spring, it will be him and that Desclafani kid that get the 2 spots in the rotation. I sure hope Cueto and Homer, as well as Leake stay healthy because the rotation is going to be weaker than it has been for quite a few year now. Hopefully we have some sign of offense this coming season because the starting rotation wont be nearly as strong IM afraid as we have been use to since Price has been with the team.
Hard to get too excited about the upcoming season with what the FO has or I guess I should say hasn't done this winter. Although some of our better teams over the years has been when not much has been expected, so hopefully us fans get a real surprise this year. Division is only going to get tougher with the North Side trash improving, so they better get there act together or we will find ourselves in Cubs territory of being a joke to the game of baseball.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Mesoraco's extension takes him through his arbitration years and buys out his first year of free agency.
Mesoraco will receive a $28MM guarantee, MLBTR has learned. He receives a $500K signing bonus and will earn $2.4MM in 2015, $4.9MM in 2016, $7.2MM in 2017 and $13MM in 2018. The contract also contains an additional $2MM worth of performance bonuses for a max of $30MM over the four-year term.
Mesoraco’s 2018 salary will jump by $400K each time he reaches 502 plate appearances from 2015-17, and he’ll earn $150K for each All-Star nomination, Gold Glove or Silver Slugger he picks up. Mesoraco can also receive $200K for finishing in the top 5 of the MVP voting, $150K for finishing sixth through 10th, $100K for finishing 11th through 15th and $50K for finishing 16th through 20th. While there are more than $2MM worth of incentives present in that breakdown, the contract places a $2MM cap on what he can earn.Comment

Just wanted to let you guys know that if you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely watch the Nasty Boys special that MLB Network played recently. 1990 was such a fun year. That show told me a lot about the team that I didn't already know but just watching the highlights reminds me of some good times.#WeAreUKComment

I figured they would probably try to get something like that done with Mesoraco. They will probably try extending Frazier as well. Both Mez and Frazier are important players for the Reds, and the 2 leaders of the team, as they produce and also don't have a problem getting on someone not doing their job. Been a fan of Frazier's since his LLWS days, and yes I follow the LLWS religiously, lol, and been a fan of Mez since we drafted him. Way back when I was a kid that was my dream to play in the LLWS, but our teams just weren't good enough to get that far. Now that Im old, I hope to before I die I get to go to Williamsport to watch the LLWS. My wife an I are trying to plan it so we can get there before my health gets too bad that I cant go, so hoping we get there this yr, not sure now that I can cause of my health, but going to try if we have the money this yr.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

2 year friendly deal with Frazier signing looks like they just might be able to pull off signing Cueto. Love the Badenhop move and Gregg is another HooverComment
