See, at least we're trying something new.

On the Miller comments, have him pitch deeper in games now and stop worrying about inning counts. He can take September off if needed. This team isn't doing anything this year, so who cares if he needs to be shut down.

The only good thing is Fredi should be gone and hopefully by the all-star break. I don't think TP would be that much better, but give the guy a shot for all the crap you have given him. If he impresses, he can have a shot at the job, if not he will probably be gone anyways.

        Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

Lots of great points made on the last page or so. No one thinks we are the best team or expected to be this year and I for one and am excited that we are rebuilding (and so far I think we are doing it right).

That said, you don't lose games when you're 3.5 games out in June and just shrug it off as 'meh, we're rebuilding'. As I watched the game last night I fully expected the 'pen to blow it. They have watched this debacle over the last 5 weeks and done NOTHING (sorry, Nick Massett doesn't count) to address it. All I wanted was to send Miller back out for the 8th at 94 pitches. The way he was going I expected he would have gotten it done in under 110 pitches. If he can't go out there and pitch one more inning/15 pitches than there is a problem.

Shelby Miller is a 24 year old pitcher who is in his third full season in the bigs. He's not a 21 year old rookie...I would hope he can give us another inning without it ruining him. As others have stated, you control his innings by maybe calling Wisler up to make a spot start for him, pull after 5 in a blowout, etc, but worrying about one inning a 3-1 game when our 'pen is a disaster is Washington Nationals stupid.

Speaking of the Nationals (and I'd think after the Medlen/Beachy debacles Braves' fans would get this), you NEVER know what is going to happen. We could baby Miller all year, finish 5 games out of a playoff spot, and then he needs TJS next spring training and we are starting all over. Steve Avery was one of the finest young pitchers I ever saw pitch...the Braves ruined him by riding him HARD way too young (check out his IP!), but you know what, I wouldn't trade that for the great years he gave us from 1991-1993 and the playoff performances. When he went down, the Braves reloaded with Denny Neagle for a few years, and then Kevin Millwood...and Avery may have broken down even without all the innings. Imagine if Bobby Cox had decided to not use him in key games and the Braves never make the playoffs in 1991? History could be entirely different...

          Great post, SF.

We drafted 4 pitchers so far today. 3 yesterday and potentially a 4th if they decide to develop Riley as a pitcher, and a catcher.

Visible strategy here. Hope they pan out, use them for depth or pieces in a deal to acquire established talent when the time is right.

Lol urine. What a correction. Still, Uribe or Urine are both better than the bullpen we have now.

Braves selected 24 pitchers in the draft, you can definitely say they are trying to fix the pitching issues in the minors with all the moves and draft.

On next to finding a home for Chris Johnson.

Cahill's ERA was over 7. I don't know the splits, so maybe it was better as a reliever.

Aardsma/Eveland aren't anything special, but I think we've all seen enough of the Stults and Cahills of the world. Cunniff should go down to AAA next.

Cahill was much better as a reliever. His era was only 7.07, opposed to over 8 starting.

The offense scored only 3, but the error and the awful pen cost the game. But the Braves had plenty of chances on offense and they(Markakis) failed each time. It's annoying to watch this team get close to 1st and fade away on a weekly basis now.

It's still early enough that they could reach first and with a solid pen they could stay there should the rest of the division play like they have all year, but it doesn't seem like the Braves are truly trying to compete for that. Everyone was so stuck on this being a rebuilding year, they don't know what to do now that we can and should be in 1st place if we didn't have this godawful pen.

The offense has carried this team all year. Sure, the starters have not been great, but with just an average pen that is 15th in the league, this team is 3 games up in the division and that is frustrating.

ATL pitchers have 10 errors...tied for most in MLB.

                              Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

Today is about as irritating as the Washington loss earlier in the year. Another game that the offense got a big lead early and the pitching staff sucked it up and lost it. Does the inconsistency and the same mistakes repeating over and over not fall on Fredi?

It's a 10-8 game right now because every pitch that led to a run for the Mets was right down the middle. If they beat the Braves hitting good pitches. I'm not mad. When Folty and Avilan both gave up runs on BP pitches, I can't help, but want to tear my eyes out watching them "pitch". Fredi left Folty in too long and let the lead shrink. Cunniff was great, then Avilan looked bad off the bat and Fredi did nothing, but let this happen.

You can tell if Avilan has is stuff or not pretty early on in his appearance. Yet, Fredi never takes him out no matter what. I get that he has had a good career, but you have to go off what's happening in front of you and the facts are that Avilan is not a good pitcher anymore and when it's one of those days where he looks bad straight out of the pen, pull him while you still have the lead. Don't think he will suddenly fix himself mid-inning. He isn't that pitcher.

We're nearing the halfway point of the year and it is the same exact issues plaguing the team now as it was in the first weeks of the season. This team can win the division. That isn't a long shot at all. I'd like to think the organization is striving for that now even with it being a rebuilding year, but all their actions point to them not.
