    Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds

Not that writers have to be homers, but why's he bother to cover the team if he clearly has it out for a player? Especially one like Votto. The only thing people can have against him is his contract, but when you're playing at a historic pace, that's about as justified as it can be to carry that amount of money per year. He's a good dude, hell of a ballplayer, and he gives a damn even in a crap season. He freakin' apologized to the fans for it being such a dismal season.

    What more do you want?!

There's some seriously sad people out there. How can you live with yourself when you go out of your way to bring someone else down. If he was a POS, sure, whatever. But to do this to a guy whose done nothing to deserve it just makes my skin crawl. Pathetic.

Yeah I don't get some people and how they can rip Votto for anything, I guess its just jealous people out there that think since this team stinks and Votto is paid a lot of money that they have a right to put any blame on him they feel.
For that matter its not even Votto's fault about his contract, there isn't anyone that would turned down that kind of money, its not like he was demanding a new contract when he got that deal, heck he still had 2 years left on his old one, which is why BP was a little upset that they were more concerned about getting Joey a new deal when he had 2 years left when he wasn't asking for it, and BP was practically begging for a new deal so he could stay a Red. Not that I blame BP, as some did by turning it around trying to make him out to have a issue with Votto, its was just BP wanted to stay with the team and was worried he might not get too.

I think in a year when this team has been nothing but a joke, it wouldn't be all that hard for a Star like Joey to pack it in some, but he hasn't and is going all out trying to do all he can to help the team win games, same with BP for that matter. We all saw how bad Votto was last year being injured and when he seen he was no longer helping the team playing injured he went to the DL, there is a diffenrence in playing hurt and playing injured and Votto was clearly injured. Its a shame he has had some of the stuff said about him that has been said, as he is the best player the Reds have had since the Barry Larkin days, back when he was in his prime. Not only that but a healthy Votto is as feared almost as much as a juiced Barry Bonds was. Players like Votto don't come around every few years, so Reds fans should enjoy him while he is here, because it might be a long time before we ever see another player like him, and even longer that someone that caliber wanted to stay in a small market his entire career.

        Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds

Votto's appeal was semi-successful as his suspension was reduced to 1 game.

        Has this happened before?

Don't know if they gave him 2 originally knowing he'd appeal, or if it's because he already sat a game due to suspension earlier in the year.

To me, it's almost like a wink from MLB telling Votto he was justified but that they have to stand with their guy because you can't erode the "confidence" in the men officiating the games.

Umpire should be fired for being incompetent. He won't be though while they keep being terrible and reward pitch framing and other nonsense.

Mat Latos, meet Karma. Karma, meet Mat Latos.

The Los Angeles Dodgers appeared to bolster an already-formidable starting rotation at the trade deadline when they added Mat Latos from the Miami Marlins, but the right-handed pitcher is no longer with the team as they announced his release on Friday.

One decision we made right. Actually, we've done a number of good things transaction wise this season. It's been the product on the field (somewhat due to those front office moves) that has been poopy.

That's was exactly my 1st thought that crossed my mind when I heard Latos got DFA'ed. Karma can be a real bitch, lol. Although I don't doubt that part of what he said was probably true. Like I believe Chapman probably has taken a nap while waiting till the 7th inning, my guess he isn't the only closer in baseball to do this though. I do think the team has lack leadership since Rolen and Bronson have left. But the team rushing him back was absolute BS on his part, he threw a fit when they kept him on rehab because of a rain shorted game in AAA, so he could get his pitch count up. While I have had questions about our medical staff in the past, they in no way were at fault when it came to Latos.

Sadly he has talent and had a couple really good years for us, but his immaturity has hurt him in his career. Be interesting to see where he ends up next year after the season he had.

On another note sounds like Walt hopes to add a veteran pitcher to the rotation over the winter, which I do think is a smart thing, as long as its not some scrub 5th starter I think it would be a good idea with all the young pitchers we have.

We definitely got to fix the Bullpen if were going to have any chance to compete next season. I do think the trades we made this season were smart ones, as much as we needed offense you never can have enough pitching and Walt said he actually wanted offense but wasn't anything out there so he took the best available which was pitching. I think it will pay off in the end having all the pitchers we do.

I actually think if we can get Billy going offensively and with Mesoraco coming back hopefully fully healthy then we ahould have a solid offense. I know Mez wants to catch but Im not so sure it wouldn't be best to make him a LF'er and have Tucker catching the majority of the time. Tucker has always been good defensively it was his bat that was a issue, but he has improved this year offensively. That way Mes stays fresh because its his bat we need more than his catching.

Honestly, when it comes to trades, Uncle Walt has done very well.

It's his free agent signings that have been very, very questionable.

EDIT: Seriously MLB, I think it's time for some kind of strike zone technology because this is getting ridiculous.

Why add a veteran when all our rookies will be "2 year vets" next season? LOL

Seriously now, we need a veteran at the right price and years. These young guys getting service will help down the line, but would like a steady hand to bridge us to hopefully greener pastures in a couple seasons.

On August 4th, the Reds were 8 games below .500. Now, they are 30 games below even.

Joey Votto did reach base for a 45th-consecutive game. The club record is Pete Rose's mark of 48 games.

At least they know how to tank properly. Got to root for Atlanta and Philly the last week so the Reds can get the #1 pick.

Well in a few days this miserable season will be over thankfully. IM ready for basketball to get here. This has been a very disappointing season, only good came out of it was we did get back what I think are some very good young arms, and now our farm is full of pitching prospects, and you cant ever have too much pitching. I just wish we had some more offense down on the farm , but I do think depending on what happens at shortstop, we might possibly see Winker or Waldrop in LF next season. That's if nothing manor happens over the winter in trades. Im sure Bruce will once again be put out there on the market, whether someone bites or not its hard saying. I do hope they have a plan in place that if Billy don't get with it, they can send him back to the minors to work on things, rather than keep running him out there hoping to get better, like Dusty would do. Speaking of managers, while I don't think our W-L over these 2 injury filled seasons are Price's fault, I do have doubts that he is the right guy, so hopefully they hire the right guy.

I really thought that Price would be gone as soon as the season was over, so Im a tad surprised. I will say in his 2 years here, he hasn't had a lot of luck in health of the roster, and while he did at times, namely early in the season makes some odd bullpen decisions, that he probably does deserve another shot. Plus with all the young pitchers and Price having been a excellent pitching coach, might have plyed into their thinking too on why they are keeping him.

These past 2 years have been tough to watch, but also tough to manage with all the injuries, and then to top it off we traded away our Ace and traded away a very good pitcher in Leake as well, so the last part of the season was more or less seeing what we had, more so than actually trying to win games at all cost.

While I wouldn't have been disappointed if they had fired Price, Im also not all that disappointed he is coming back for the last year of his contract. It is easier for us to sit around and call the shots from our houses and 2n guess a manager, than it is to actually make the decisions in the dugout on the fly, so I always keep that in mind, as Im not their everyday with the players to know what goes on.

I do think it would be a smart idea that if they have someone in mind an he is available to be manage the club, it would be a good idea to have him in the organization to start next season somewhere. Its possible they already do have a guy in mind that's in the organization, example AA manager, Pat Kelly, who did a nice job this year. Larkin was rumored to take Price's plce around all star break, and he is in the organization already as well. That way if a month into the season the team isn't living up to expectations, you make the change before the season is lost altogether.

Who knows if Pete Rose gets allowed back into baseball, were suppose to know by end of the calendar year, then Price may not be given that last year yet. I think its unlikely Pete gets back in, or atleast back to where he is allowed to be a manager, but that could be a possibility as Pete is close to the owners. Its also possible Pete don't want the rigors of managing at his age, but biy it would be nice if he is allowed back in some capacity to where he could work with our players in Spring Training as well as at ballparks around the league, if nothing else.
