    Re: 2016 Cincinnati Reds

Thats how Ive been feeling since this past winter about how things have gone under Walt. Such piss poor decisions over this past year, there was a time when Walt was a good GM and even made some solid moves for us, seems the game has passed him by, that or he dont have the energy he once had and dont spend enough time at it, being a GM is a 24/7 365 days a yr job, and not sure Walts doing that any longer.

I really thought we were getting Nimmo and was excited that we might finally make a good move, but wow took a nap an woke up to this, should have stayed in bed, lol. Dilson might end up solid, although Im not overly high on him, and Wotell is only 19 so he wont be helping for quite while if ever.

We are playing better, so thats a positive, I know most fans like to bitch about him, but Price has improved this year a lot in his managing ability, and guys still play hard for him. Be interesting to see now Bruce is gone just how we play, cause Bruce has been a huge part of the offense.

Yeah we're in a bad spot because we need to sell off our valuable assets, but our front office hasn't been able to flip them in to good prospects. Feel like all other teams are making good deals and we constantly are getting hosed.

      How not to rebuild 101.

I feel like we are in for years and years of disappointment and being the joke of the MLB. We are the Cleveland Browns. A team that will constantly be "rebuilding" which means getting rid of anyone with potential every year.

        It's sad.

Herrera is a really nice pickup. A Votto/Herrera/Peraza/Senzel infield in 2 years could be quite good.

Yeah its frustrating to watch other teams make trades and see what they get then when we do make a trade it seems our GM is constantly getting hosed. Dont know what happen to Walt's ability because he use to be a good GM and well respected, but the deal he has made lately have not been good.

Maybe Dilson Hererra turns out to be a solid player, cant say Ive watched enough of him to really get a good feel for him, but what little I have seen it didnt impress me much. I use to watch a lot of MILB TV, but since my health faded and I cant work, we cant afford it any longer with hving to have MLB TV and NBA League pass, so I dont know the prospects like I use too. I do know Wottel is only 19 so he wont be of use to us for a few years.

I sure hope we get this thing turned around here in a yr or 2 or I might be dead before were competitive again, then again if Hilary wins in Nov. were probably all screwed, heck we might all be screwed the other way too, with how bad Obama has been, it might not be fixable, lol. Seriously though I do hope this isnt like the early 2000's when we sucked for several years with no hoped what so ever. I dont think our ownership will let that happen as they are good owners, but I think Mr C has given Walt too long of rope and were being hanged for it. That or we need some better scouting, as I think Walt leans heavily on his scouts for advice as Walt's eye for talent isnt his strong suit, its his handling of the payroll that was considered his strong point, or thats what I had always heard about Walt as a GM. Personally Id prefer my GM to have a eye for talent and not just a guy good at working the payroll to make things work for small markets. Hopefully once D Williams takes full control of GM duties he will be better, but Im sure he is heavily involved now so some of this probably can be layed in his lap as well on getting hosed since this winter on trades.

Homer Bailey is upset with the Jay Bruce trade.

Says the Reds organization is "damn sure trying" to lose 100 games.

Yep. I'm telling you. Walt is a spy.

Also found this and thought it was interesting. They all went to teams who can win games.

Should've rethought that big contract then Homer, eh?

The writing's been on the wall for at least 3 years now. This is what happens when the core you have only takes you to the NL WC game. It gets blown up.

Too bad Homer had no value with a blown out arm otherwise he would've been out the door too. ****, if Votto wasn't on an eternal contract he would've been moved as well.

Not sure what Homer is upset about, this is what happens when your window of opportunity closes for a small market team, you have to trade away assets and rebuild, especially when your farm system was as weak as ours. Maybe if we would have had a better farm system we wouldnt have had to do this, but since that wasnt the case this is what happens.

I get Homer being upset to see a friend and someone he has played his whole career with go, heck Votto and Bruce were best friends and he is saying anything negative about the trade or any of the deals that have been made, he gets it.

Your absolutely right, if Homer hadnt blew his arm out he would have been gone, as I dont believe he has a no trade clause in his deal, like Votto has. Your also right if Votto didnt have such a huge contract along with a no trade clause he would have been gone as well. Im sure they put feelers out for Votto, but Votto has said he has no desire to waive his no trade clause even if asked, he said he likes being a Red, and has no desire to leave. At this time anyway, if this rebuild dont go right and we dont show muc improvement next yr then Votto might rethink that, but with his contract amount and yrs, its unlikely any team would take him.

That was a heck of a game tonight, Schebler really put a charge into that 3 run homer to win it for us. Hopefully he turns into something, he had a solid yr in the Dodgers famr system last yr, and once he started getting regular playing time this yr in the minors he got going, so hopefully this is just the beginning of a solid career.

Votto's average, is creeping up to .300, for all the naysayers out there, lol. I told my wife 2 months ago, by the time the season was over Votto would be at or above .300, glad that looks like it might happen.

Were playing better baseball, so hopefully we end the season on a high note, and give the team confidence going into next yr. Weve been better offensively this season, wish we could have had this offense back in 12 and 13 when we had good pitching, we probably would have won a WS atleast 1 of those seasons.

Another series win, with how poorly the season has gone, its nice to see the team still playing hard and trying to win games. I was a little worried once Bruce was traded that it would wrecked the confidence of the guys, and we might see some poor play the rest of the way, since Bruce was such a popular figure with the team and in the clubhouse. Really glad to see them keep fighting and trying to win series. Be nice to finish the season strong and get out of the cellar. I know some out there think tanking is the way to go, and we should try to get the top pick, not me, we have never had the worst record in all of baseball and I woul dlike to keep it that way, and in baseball its not liek the top pick is close to a sure thing, unlike other sports where for the most past top picks tend to be atleast solid, with the occassional exception. I also like to not lose 100 games, weve only done that once in our history and thats enough for me.

I really hope he has turned over a leaf. If Billy can get on base consistently, that speed becomes a game changer. In just 11 games in August, he has 16 stolen bases, which is what he had for the entire month of July. That's what happens when he gets on base at a .413 clip. Obviously, that's not sustainable (unless he injected Votto's bone marrow or something), but he already has more stolen bases during the second half then he had in all the first half of the season.

                      First half: .236/.283/.350 22 steals (74 games)
                      Second half: .308/.379/.356 29 steals (26 games)

                      And Joey being Joey.

                      April: .229/.327/.313
                      May: .200/.333/.484
                      June: .319/.466/.549
                      July: .413/.549/.627

Yep, Billy is a game changer, and as good as Votto is, Billy is actually the key to making this team go. If he can get on base at a descent rate, along with staying healthy he adds so much value to this team. I love that he has no fear, and someone who goes hard like that, and its hard to tell them to do any different, so hopefully Billy gets his body in better shape to handle the impact. Griffey Jr played the same way with no fear, but always heard he wasnt much on stretching or working out, he basically got by with his God given abilities and in latter years he paid for it. Ive heard Billy has a sweet tooth, and drinks a lot of soda, he can get away with that early on, but for sustainability he is going to need to take better care of his body, or it will break down as well. Adding a little more muscle to that frame of his would help with the impact with walls and ground.

To do what Votto has done to get that average up only a rare few is capable of doing. He truly is a special offensive player, lets just hope its all by hard work and not something else. My wife made the comment he seems to be irritable more so than he use to be, and joke around after seeing his incident with fan and then what the camera caught with Billy in the dugout the other day, that it looked like some roid rage. She was partially joking knowing that he is 1 of my favorite Reds, but now days you just never really know for sure about players when they do amazing things. Personally I dont think he would ever do that, and he has always been wound tightly, its parrt of what makes him so good along with hard work.

Well getting close to ending this painful season, and Im for 1 glad its about over. Seeing us suck so bad, and seeing the North Side trash Cubs being so good has soured me on even watching much baseball lately. Thankfully basketball season isnt far off. I think the only thing that will make this season worse is if the Cubs win the World Series. Id prefer the not even get make it to their, but if they do, I sure hope they dont win it. Unfortunately I think they have too good of team along with a very good manager to lose, and 107 yr drought will be over for the biggest joke in all of sports.

I am curious to see what the Reds do this offseason with Price since his contract will be up at seasons end. I wouldnt have said this at the end of last season, because the 1st 2 years of Price as manager he made quite few mistakes, but this year he has improved a great deal as a manager, and really doesnt deserve to take the fall for this teams being so bad. Price hasnt had in any of these 3 yrs any luck with injuries, and while the 1st 2 years you can point to a lot of things he did wrong, but he has improved, and any intelligent baseball guy can see that. Not sure if thats a good reason to give him a new contract, but he has improved a great deal even if the Win/Loss record dont indicate it. IM not sure who will be out there that we could hire as a manager, but it will be interesting to see what the Reds do. Im pretty sure Joe Giradi will still be with the Yankees, but if for some odd reason they let him go, that would be the guy I would go after if he became available, but Id say its unlikely that the Yankees will let Joe go since he has done as good as you possibly could do with that team over these past few years.

You got your wish: Price and the coaching staff will return in 2017.

It would feel kind of wrong to axe him after the players we ran out there day after day this year. Obviously, the team saw something other then just wins and losses that made them think Price could be the leader this team needs when the talent is more ripe on the field.

Next year, if there's no improvement on this year, can him and you'll hear no complaints from me. Don't make the expectations super high (we're not making the playoffs) but let's see some progress and pretty much be on a year to year basis. It would be very bad if we let Price go and he catches on with a better overall team and turns out to be a good manager.

I think, simply from the lack of noise we've made about Price's managerial abilities, that the fan base is okay with him. Not sold on him completely (why would you be?), but open and accepting of keeping him on.

                            Good move.

I agree we definitely need to continue to see progress, just like we saw from the 1st half of this season to the 2nd half. It shows Price hasnt lost the clubhouse because they go out an play hard for him even after the season was lost long ago, so Price deserves some credit fro managing to keep them playing hard. Not saying we need to see a Postseason appearance next yr, but we do need to see a improvement in Wins next yr.

Price has not had anything close to a healthy team in his 3 yrs, and when you have no depth that spells disaster for your team. There isnt a manager in baseball not 1 who could have did much better these past 3 yrs in W-L with this team. The 1st 2 years I was concerned that Price was out of his league as a manager and he was better served to jus be a pitching coach, but he has improved this yr in his managing skills, and that along with the guys continuing to play hard and they have played .500 ball the 2nd half of the season which is hard to believe actually, but there has been better play form the team as a whole. So Im glad ownership didnt just jump the gun and say lets make a change, just to make a change. I believe to many times teams let the manager be the fall guy, even when the team isnt good enough to compete. Am I sold on Price as the right guy, no, but considering the improvement this yr with a piss poor roster and all the injuries he has had to deal with, its only right he gets another yr atleast to see this thing thru. If we can push next season to around .500 ball, that would be progress, and we have a young team with some potentially good talent, so we should see them continue to improve, if not then a change will be needed.
