I know it is early but I am not impressed with the Cubs at all. They had an awesome opening game and have played inconsistent since then. I think the Cubs made a mistake in not trying to trade for Aubrey Huff. Burnitz is going to strikeout way too much. Also, Patterson sucks as a leadoff man.

Well after Walker goes down you figure we can finally make use of Jerry Harriston. After all he hit .380 in the spring and he is a natural second basemen. Nope that loser starts Nefi Perez saying that he knows the pitchers better. WHAT. Nice logic Dusty.Comment

Re: ***2005 Cubs Thread***
OK, what will determine whether or not Burnitz is better than Sammy is his approach...will Burnitz still swing for the fences with two outs and a runner in scoring positiong? Sammys too infatuated with inflating his HR totals.
The Cubs made a big mistake in not getting more speed in the OF. If their strength is their pitching then it makes sense to get some speed in their to support that plus with that speed they wont need to be so reliant on the HR. But Ive come to this conclusion: Dusty is not a national league manager. He has no clue when to send runners. I was complaining about when he would send Lofton 2 years ago and the other day Dusty has Hairston at 1B with Nomar up and 2 out. The likelihood of stealing a base successfully and Nomar getting a single far outweighs Nomar getting an extra base hit in this situation. So what happens, Dusty doesnt send Hairston and Nomar singles Hairston to 2nd, essntially wasting a base hit. So now, the Cubs need back to back hits in this situation. Dusty is a horrible tactical manager. Also, Im not sure Nomar was the guy to get. But the fact that they went after Nomar kind of tips their hand in terms of what they had in mind for Sosa. They knew they were going to unload Sosa and so they recognized the need to have a marquis(sp) name on the roster--Nomar Garciaparra.
The team is constructed poorly but it matters little due to Dusty's shortcomings.Last edited by glucklich; 04-12-2005, 01:14 PM.Comment

Re: ***2005 Cubs Thread***
How can anyone respect Dusty Baker. He is such a child. Now he's crying about the media talking to Harriston. Hey you big piece of crap, if you played him like you were suppost to this wouldnt have happened. Jerry is pissed because he knows youre a liar, and now youre trying to pass blame to the media to cover for your stupid fat ***.Comment

Today they said that Ramirez was gonna sit out yesterday because of a groin. The same problem he had last year. But when Asked Ramirez said that his groin was fine and didn't know what anyone was talkng about. Why would Dusty sit hm if he's fine? Does he wanna get Neifi in more?PSN: JISTIC_OS
