Tonight is a huge start for Wade Miller. I have a feeling he wont make it past the 5th and will end up on the DL. Hopefully not though, we need him to cmoe together during this stretch run.

I have the same feeling. He's been pretty solid so I'd like to keep him in the rotation but I'm not sure if his shoulder will hold up. If he goes down, I think Schilling goes back to the rotation, in which case they'll need Delcarmen and/or Papelbon to step up big in a setup role while Timlin assumes closer duties.

Wow. Scary moment with Manny and Renteria colliding. Both were down for a few minutes but seem to be ok. Renteria got Manny pretty good with a right hook.

Gotta love Millar's "That was only 200 million dollars lying face down on the ground."

I guess thats what I expected out of Miller last night. He's been mediocre for awhile now but I'm hoping he can catch fire at some point before October.

The Sox are goin' for the sweep this afternoon. I was planning on watching most of it but I got called into work early. It will be Clement's first start since taking that line drive off his head. I anticipate a solid outing, Clement seems to pitch better during the day here at Fenway.

By then, there was very little chance of a deal happening for Ramirez, and, fortunately by then, Epstein had repaired much of the damage, with the help of Kevin Millar and David Ortiz. The only way there would be a deal is if Boston could reach its endgame of Mike Cameron, which involved a fourth team, the Reds, and Adam Dunn; in that, Manny would have gone to the Mets; Hanley Ramirez and Mets players would have gone to Tampa Bay; Lastings Milledge and Anibel Sanchez would have gone to Cincinnati; and Boston would have received Cameron, Dunn, Aubrey Huff and Trever Miller. Tampa Bay had killed it by Saturday morning by reminding people why they are the worst franchise in modern baseball history and upping requests, and Reds GM Dan O'Brien had serious restraints because of the impending ownership change; he could not even respond to Yankee inquiries about and Junior Griffey.
              -Peter Gammons
Interesting. I'm surprised they were willing to trade Hanley Ramirez in a deal that didn't include a sure star. Perhaps this is because they are now higher on Pedroia than Ramirez? And, according to Gammons, it was Luchinno who nixed the Bigbie deal. I'm actually glad we didn't get Bigbie but that was pretty low on the part of the Red Sox to back out of that deal when Colorado had already gone out and aquired Bigbie.

Manny will sit today and Olerud has been placed on the 15 day DL. Petagine will make his Red Sox debut and bat cleanup. This guy has been tearing it up at Triple A and now he gets his shot, I hope he comes through.

Hanley is the better athlete, but Pedroia is the more major-league ready player out of the two, so I'm not surprised they were willing to keep pedroia over Hanley. Plus, they don't really have anywhere to put Hanley currently, while Pedroia could easily be the starting 2B next season.

C'mon Terry, you have earned my respect with your off the field management, but continue to be questionable on the field. A guy who hasnt been in the ML in 7 years batting 4th? WHAT?! What about Millar? Or Tek hitting 3rd and Papi 4th.

Well, not that Roberto has contibuted except a walk, but 9 runs. 8 in the inning including a Renteria 3-run double and Tek granny with 2 outs. All the runs scored were unearned haha. If Renteria hits like he shoulda been all year the last two months of the year, we will be so unstoppable on offense, even moreso than now.

If I ever have to see the noodle arm of Damon try to throw out Matt Stair-master again, i'll die. That was hilarious.

What an ugly game. Combined 20 runs, 19 hits, 15 walks and 3 errors.

The Red Sox scored 8 runs in the 4th on 2 hits! Oh well, we've won 8 straight, are 5 games ahead of the Yanks and tied with the Angels for 2nd best record in the AL.

I've noticed that Terry doesn't like to move around his players in the order. If somebody is filling in (in the case Petagine), he leaves the order the same and puts Roberto where Manny would be batting. He did the same thing with Olerud.

I was at work yesterday and we were all around the tv when Tek came up and of course we are started complaining about how he is an awful bases-loaded hitter. IT was definitly cool to see him hit his first career grand slam, and I've been waiting for that one for the last three years, I think (though I'm sure Tek had had been waiting longer). That was an ugly game, and the spin they're putting on it is kind of lame as well (Matt had so much courage to step out there!) but will suffice for now. If Clement comes out next time and allows 6 runs in 5 innings he probably won't get another win.

Petagine looks like Brian Daubach part 2.

Correct, and I don't really have a problem with this. If it was Adam Stern you might feel differently but Petagine and Olerud are no worse than the guys below them, except maybe Tek.
