Man I agree with the OP. As a coach, it's frustrating see transition defense not working right at times lol... But what I do give 2k credit for is that they give us full authority to edit the sliders and players to cater to our likeness and address some issues. I notice that by increasing defensive awareness the ai is a lot better at recognizing certain defensive aspects in transition. I think the game tries to imitate bad defenders in regard to their low defensive ratings but transition D is transition D. That is stuff you learn in middle school ball

I've noticed this as well. In fact, it is in my top list of concerns as stated in the thread posted below.. Hopefully the developers can implement a fix for this.

Re: Am I The One?(NBA 2K16 has a serious problem)
I wanna thank rjohns23 for the suggestion of tinkering with defensive awareness slider. You can tell I am no a slider person as I keep saying in the video that the problem was no ai awareness and I go to sliders and bump it up to 100 for cpu/user and it is much better. Is it perfect no I still get some mismatch like in 2k15 but I ain't looking for perfection just a good enough representation of transition d where guys aren't lost and confused most of the time. It is early testing but promising. So if you are mainly an offline gamer this might help. Video show that Neal is heading to his preprogram spot but notice lee on the wing and guards him.

I never said i didn't notice so i don't understand your question. Secondly,I mentioned it in this thread and in a few of my videos. But in case you missed it my problem is that it is a legacy issue that got worst in 2k16 to where it was just unplayable for me as offline gamer. In 2k15 they "broke" from this zone most of time as soon as the Ball handler got near half court and less player confusion so it was bad but bearable for me. 2k16 is not in my opinion. But the 100 defensive awareness brings back to the 2k15 bearable so far with my testing.Comment

Re: Am I The One?(NBA 2K16 has a serious problem)
^Ahh, i gotcha. I only asked because i didn't see you make a thread about this for 2k15(or if you did i missed it) That explanation makes sense though. Hmm, well i'll have to see how 2k16 is whenever i get around to picking it up, there will probably already be a few patches released for it then.
Also, have to ask, how does the passing seem to you in 2k16? Any better? That's probably one of the biggest legacy issues in nba 2k to me.Comment

Re: Am I The One?(NBA 2K16 has a serious problem)
Update on changing defensive awareness at 100%. After playing a few hours I would say this a bandaid on I severe cut. Did I see instances of better ai awareness? Yes so it has gone from 90 to about 75-80 which is still horrible but . But the fundamental problem of guys causing self imposed mixmatch is still bad. I really feel bad about the mostly online gamers because I went online and people are quickly passing to wing defenders exploiting the transition D and what compound the problem is defensive players react slower than offensive. And offensive players "bull" rush with no consequence. I actually would play online this year more because
1. I like the play now online setup
2. This is the first year in a long time that online is near flawless for me . I mean there is zero lag for me so I don't have to relearn release point for offline and online. That is huge, kudos to the 2k online engineers for that!!Comment

I think this is it right here...players with low defensive awareness playing bonehead in almost every defensive situation. Trying to find the balance between making bad defenders get exposed and still allowing them to make fundamental plays is the key."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Re: Am I The One?(NBA 2K16 has a serious problem)
Personally there are only 4 things I'd like 2K fix for 2K16 and I'll be extremely happy. People think I'm a ***** but no I just like to play sim ball.
1. Teammates offense AI is terrible. They often choose shots that are well contested instead of open shots. This is regardless of the player, be it KD or some scrub. They're too bent (I think that's the right word for the feeling) on shooting at all costs, which is very jarring and cheesy because there are better alternatives right there, like a step back instead of a pull up, or a lay up instead of a shot in the paint.
2. Teammates rotation is terrible. Oftentimes rotations happen for no reason, other times rotation doesn't happen at all. This is especially noticeable on the fast break where they end up clumping in the paint and leave shooters wide open on the perimeter.
I wish there's a way for just to force the switch, cause sometimes you have to double team yourself. Like a button where you tap and then choose the icon for the player you'd like to switch with. Gonna be very helpful on MyCareer, at least.
3. AI is very reluctant to turbo. Teammates on both offense and defense are reluctant to turbo, causing fast breaks to be much closer than in reality and closeouts to happen much less often. Like if I get a rebound and KD is mid court, he'd jog down. Or if teammate is defending and they lag behind the offensive player, they still won't turbo to close out and instead allow an open shot.
Might be related is how AI sometimes slide/skate at much faster speeds than normal to get to the ball/defensive position. That should also be fixed as well. Irritating.
4. Inconsistent collision detection. This one is cheesy as well. It's very random when physics works in 2K15 and 16. It should be consistent every time. It's hard not to think it's intentional when I do an animation and clipping doesn't happen and turnover occurs, but when CPU does animations clipping happens and no turnover. This should be consistent every time.
This is especially important since the CPU loves to spam ISO moves point blank of a defender, many of which clips the defender and no turnover. This also causes human defenders to be at a disadvantage against slashers, because our reaction time is not as fast as CPU defenders, so it's really difficult to defend against this.
There's really no reason to leave clipping bugs in the game, 3 years in a row.
Other than that, this year is great. I'm having a blast playing, though a lot of the time I get pissed at the issues pointed above conspiring against me and my team in MyCareer. I don't play online so I don't know how serious the issues are there, but in MyCareer it can and will ruin your day sooner or later.Comment

Re: Am I The One?(NBA 2K16 has a serious problem)
I wish that was true but I play with Memphis and played the CPU with players with high defensive AI. Doesn't matter, the 2 defenders farthest from basket are usually the one going to the defend the fastbreak even when the defense is setup to do so, leaving defenders causing a fastbreak opportunity for the offensive that didn't exist

Re: Am I The One?(NBA 2K16 has a serious problem)
I play as the Bucks, who are a pretty good D team, and I'm seeing the same issues as the OP. Transition defense AI does happen and so does brain dead AI players staring at the PG or rebounder.
Thanks for the thread Dave.Comment
