We enter our 61st and 62nd games of the season.* And right before the game starts the trainer enters my office. Iman Shumpert is ready to go for the back to back (Jazz then Warriors.)
I adjust my rotations and insert him into the lineups, as he was ON FIRE before he got injured. His contribution will surely help us in the tougher of these games against the GSW.
We cut to the Smart Home Arena. The crowd pumped & ready for basketball. Lakers @ Jazz.
Lakers so far are 31-29 this year, hoping to sneak into the 8th seed, while the Jazz are just hoping that they get a decent draft pick, sitting currently at 21-38.
Last time these two teams met the Jazz took the game 95-78, yet the Lakers are the favorite going into tonight's ball game. We'll see how this one plays out.
The Lakers are currently 1st in PPG, while the Jazz sit at 21st. Another key factor. Rebounding, the Lakers are 2nd in that category.. the Jazz, 28th.
There are no notable injuries for tonight's game for either team.
UTAH JAZZ V LOS ANGELES LAKERS. (SERIES RECORD: 1-1)
The commentators for tonight's action in Utah will be Kevin Harlan, Greg Anthony, and Steve Smith! The tip off goes to the Utah Jazz, and the game begins.
**** The jazz score first with a layup from Hayward, but Dwight Howard immediately answers back with a dunk on the other end. A shooting foul is called here, giving him the and one opportunity.* He bricks the free throw, and the game continues early on, tied up 2-2. Gordan Hayward catches the rebound,* drives down the court and pulls up at the free throw line.. SWISH. Two points,* Utah.
4-2, Utah Leads. "The series is tied 1-1, and the winner here tonight will break that tie, both teams will definitely be giving it their all" Steve Kerr, coach of the Lakers said. "We just have to make sure our all is better than their all".* After a quick turnover from the Lakers, the Jazz score again off a Rudy Gobert Layup. Julius Randle quickly answers back on the other end with a layup of his own, however.
Raul Neto receives the inbound, goes up the court, tries to throw it inside.. steal! Ingram drives down and pulls up for the threee.
Gordan Hayward however immediately answers back with a 3 of his own. Out of the Jazz' 9 points, he has 7. Dloading receives the inbound, then Ingram rolls off a screen he set for Russell, attempts to dunk and is fouled. He drills both free throws. 9-9, tie game.
Rodney Hood receives an open corner three on the Jazz' next possession, 12-9. Khris Middleton decides to take the ball up for the Lakers on the following possession and to the dismay of his teammates,* immediately pull up for his own three. He sinks it luckily, 12-12 with 4:45 left in the 1st. A timeout is called and subs are put in. We will rejoin the game at the top of the second.
It's 25-25 at the top of the second, and the Jazz have possesion. Derrick Favors receives the ball and SLAMS it down for a early two point lead & with the foul, makes it three. The Lakers attempt to answer back,* but Ingram has gone ice cold this quarter. Rudy Gobert however HAS NOT. He spins around Dwight Howard for a jazz Layup. Dwight throws it in to Dloading, who comes up the court and hits randle. He attempts a hook shot. To no avail. Hayward comes back down the court after another rebound, and hits a pull up 3. Rodney Hood steals the ball on the proceeding inbound play, and nails a quick layup as well, 35-25, Jazz. A timeout is called and some starters are rested again. We will catch up with this game as it enters halftime.
Going into halftime, the score sits at 49-38; Jazz on top. The Lakers continue to struggle, especially against this team, and with their current record in the past ten games,* (3-7) they really don't need this.
Gordan Hayward is lighting it up. 14 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Stl.
And for the Lakers, D'Angelo Russell is doing pretty good too. He's got 7 points, 2 assists, and a steal.
The 3rd quarter starts with LAL. DLOADING spots D.Howard open in the paint who, as he goes up, is pushed in the back. He misses, so two shots for him. He makes one and the other is a free throw rim violation. After a quick defensive stop, Ingram hits a jumpshot, but Rodney Hood quickly hits one of his own. Middleton takes the ball up court and pulls up for ANOTHER. I REPEAT. ANOTHER Three. And makes it. Dude is $$. 44-51, Jazz.
Hayward lays up an easy two, and after a quick stop, Hood nails a quick three. A timeout is called. The Lakers are down 44-56 but they put in their "trap card" Iman shumpert.
He takes the ball up the court, calls for a screen from skal. He drives in and slams it down for two. 46-56. A quick stop later, and he throws it into the paint to Dwight Howard for the slam. 48-56.
The jazz come down the court, and raul Neto pulls up. He bricks it. Howard rebounds, then hits Shumpert with the pass who pulls up for 3. 51-56. A quick timeout is called, then the Jazz attempt to have Hayward hit a three, but it's swatted backcourt by Howard! Shumpert grabs it and throws it down. 53-56. Raul Neto brings the ball up the court passes to Derrick favors, then to Gobert, who backs down Skal. Skal falls over as he slams it down. 58-53. Dloading brings the ball up the court and passes to the recently subbed in Quincy Pondextor, who hits Shumpert in the corner for a contested three. And it goes. 58-56. After a turnover by the jazz, Skal Labissiere is sent to the line, and ties it up 58-58. The Jazz give the ball to Hayward who drives down the court, spins past his man and hits a contested layup, and then steals the inbound (T_T)
63-58
After a three from shumpert, it's 63-61, and he's fouled on his three. 63-62. The game enters the fourth , and The Lakers are finally showing signs of life.
We're a minute into the fourth, and the Jazz have taken a 74-69 lead, and have the ball. They are driving, kick it out to favors who comes into the paint for a layup as the defense was focused on Neto. And a foul on the play will lead to two more shots for the Jazz for Rodney Hood. He sinks both, so the lead increases to 78-69. Dloading takes the ball up court. Stops at the top of the three point line. Surveys his options. Pull up jumper! He nails it. 72-78. Neto catches the inbound, destroys Dloading's ankles and gets an easy layup, and the Lakers come the other way. They kick it to Howard in the paint who is fouled. He makes one, but the other is a clanker.
The jazz fast break up the court, and Neto hits another easy layup around Middleton. Timeout. Ingram is subbed out for Pondextor, as he'd really been struggling to this point.
The Lakers commit a turnover and then foul R.Hood, who sinks both shots. Afterwards, Pondextor hits a quick jumpshot for 2. Gordan Hayward quickly answers back, 86-75, Jazz. Dloading hits back to back unanswered layups, but then D.favors gets back to back layups and a foul on the second. 91-79, Jazz.
DRuss tries to answer back again, but only draws a foul. He sinks both, giving the Lakers a little momentum, which is quickly killed by Gordan Hayward. He drains a three from nearly half court. I'll be back either in the middle of these games or after all of them with a small recap for each, just thought it'd be fun to detail a game. I'll probably do a week(in game) at a time now.
Also. Small note. I'm thinking of writing from the perspective of the media. What do you guys think?
