    Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

The speed cheese has been prevalent since many years ago, back when I watched Chris Smoove. He called them out on it quite frequently. but it looks like it's still not fixed.

Adjusting body-up sensitivity really changed the game for me, but like somebody else says, it feels like it might inflate the FGA and possibly scores (since it somehow speeds up possessions as it's easier to attack), but if you play good defense (i.e. stay in front of the CPU and contest shots at the rim), you should still have a normal FGM stat. Sometimes, when you give them enough space (due to lower stickiness), the CPU will shoot a mid-range shot, and that's a true 50/50 depending on the player. It's much better.

2K please patch body-up sensitivity and speed. If it means a smoother offense at the expense of easy defense (right now defense is easy to play, while offense is frustrating), then so be it.

Personally, I'm not a god with the stick offensively, pulling off crazy dribble move combos with Kyrie and dropping fools, but I'm a solid defender just by rationing the intense D and turbo, and understanding angles.
I admit I'm not as strong an offensive player, but sometimes it's just frustrating to see fast breaks (typically easy buckets) that should end with a slam. Instead, they end with me getting hip checked out of my dribble.

I'm just saying, in the real NBA, you hear defense wins championships, but also that good offense beats good defense.
If you add that up and implement this into your game:
    - Remove the stickiness that the dribbling player has. Give him freedom, not absolute freedom, but he needs to move without being stuck in animations, esp. detrimental animations (pick the ball up, bumped backwards, etc) all the time.
    - Set speed values/sliders so that CPU players don't have a boost to catch back up to human players. This is what motivates off-ball defense. Right now, if you're a bad on-ball defender, you let your team's CPU players defend their human-controlled dribbler, so you don't get burned. It also gives incentive to human players to cheat off their designated man since the CPU won't easily make mistakes on-ball.
    - As a continuation, if you want to make this a competitive 'esport' (I, for one, never understood this), push your players to play and develop both offensive and defensive control skills. If a player doesn't know how to play proper on-ball defense and needs the CPU to replace them on that end (while playing off-ball themselves), they should be punished and blown by.

This is easily the best 2K I have ever played. I love it. The patch was really great for me and the way I play this game.

I am getting awesome games in MyLeague, with realistic star and outcomes.

Awesome job. I am enjoying 2K on the PS4 really for the first time. 15 and 26 just did not do it for me and 17 is chock full of amazing customization options in franchise, incredible AAA presentation unlike any sports game on the market and just fun.

I have locked in my sliders for my play style.......and I did not need to change a thing after this patch. They tinted things up in regards to FG%, blocks, steals, and now the fast break is awesome again for me.

game still is horrible with patch and see a lot of the same problems. GSW don't even run plays but just run up court most game and chuck up shots and throw back door passes all game long. So many teams play just like GSW that it feels like the devs tested the game only playing GSW vs GSW. Also WTF is up with my center keep hanging out at the 3pt line on both offense and defense? On defense I tell him to gap off guys that are not a threat but he'll leave paint wide open.

            Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

I was able to get a chance to play NBA 2K17 over last weekend with free gold play days on Xbox one, and let me tell you how horrible the game is. Lets start with the visual aspects and get that out of the way first. Graphics looks weird, because of this some player models are too skinny and player height feel like it has been shrunken down. All of this to help combat proper court spacing, also the players look like they have a glaze over them like a krispy kreme doughnut and it just look weird; by far 2k16 graphics were better. Moving onto gameplay it has to be one of the worst I've ever played online (haven't really played offline). The ball is way to tangible and you can loose it easily by spamming the right stick which is another issue for me. I hate that the right stick make you attempt to flick the ball up on defense instead of putting your hands up. I rather that function to be putting your hands up on D instead of it being contextual when a player shoots.
Some of the more issues I had were timing layups which is a pain in the a** because you'll have most layups come up short because of improper timing which is ridiculous because most of these guys are finishing at the rim at a good rate in real life, basically timing layups needs to go! Moving onto crossovers another thing that bothers me. In this year 2K I often found myself spamming the right stick on offense hoping to pull off a good crossover and instead found myself repeating the same moves 10 times in a row I rather them revert back to last year where all you had to do was flick the right stick in one direction and you'll perform the crossover but no it has to be over complicated like with timing layups. Going onto shooting which can be on and off mostly off I've played an online game where I finished 0/15 3PT some were bad and some were good but 0/15 is just absurd, and I have proof of this also. The main game mode I play is PNO which is just broken to begin with. There are too many tiers and leaves to most people picking the tier 5 lakers to gain an advantage, why not just revert back to 3 team tier I've played the lakers 4 straight times. Going back to gameplay the making substitution and adjustments is also a pain I'm tired of 2k changing things every year when no change is needed and that is coaching adjustment and subs 2k make up your mind please.
Taking a step forward to mycareer and park, lets start with mycareer. All I can say is that it looks good now onto Mypark and oh boy does 2k have some work to do. Ever since the addition of Park cards in Mypark I have hated MyPark it has become too arcade I rather play 2k15 park where your player skills did matter. Oddly MyPark tries to be fun and in your face when all they need to do is remove park cards and all this glittering stuff IMO 2k15 park was the best.
Hopefully 2k18 will be better as I will pre order it day one since I will be skipping out on 2k17. 2k17 and the 2k community is going through something and need to figure it out.

            Had alot to say lol.

@Beluba, please optimize the PC version. It's insane that I can't play with crowds on at any setting and resolution.

Other than that, I have guarded optimism about this game now. I took a hiatus, came back, and it's playing well post-post-post-post-patch. Hope it continues.

I haven't picked this up yet, because I think I may be getting this as a gift for X-mas.

A&S, you definitely have the best sliders out there and I may tweak a bit here and there, but your set is the base I use...can't wait to get this game in a few weeks and input your slider set.

I play on XB1, ONLY because I play on 12 min Q's and the PS4 still has that replay bug, but your sliders definitely transition over to XB.

Looking forward to starting my Bulls 'chise sir.

                  Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

I haven't weighed in on the double teams this cycle because for a long time there were, in my opinion, other big areas to address that came first. Many of those have been addressed to some degree with recent game adjustments.

I'm speaking now of offline. From what I read, doubles come much more frequently in MyCareer but I stopped playing that more than a month ago.

In my opinion, doubles mostly come when it makes sense to double as a guy gets hot. The problem to me is not the doubles, but the lack of help the helper defensive AI logic that rotates to account for the offensive player left alone.

The problem is also the selection of the defender who comes over to double. So, if a hot post player gets a double, rotating from the wing off a drop dead shooter to apply pressure is not intelligent defense. The double should come from down low with a weak side player collapsing lower to provide help against the player left alone down low.

Similarly, on some spread pick and pop situations, with two shooting threats and one already hot, the defense will cheat or double on one guy, leaving the fading roller or the pick initiator wide open.

So it seems to me like double team AI logic is implemented so far as a kind of simple two man game from a defensive point of view. Because of that, getting on guy hot and forcing the AI to double becomes a way for the user to exploit and abuse the lack of team based defensive help.

It is sim to force the defense ti make tough choices and guard two with one. The thing that's missing is the rest of the defense being aware of the need to adjust and rotate based on the double and the ability of the defense to make smart choices about where double team help comes from.

Now, I know OG knows a lot more about this stuff than I do. So what I expect is that the game is not yet ready from a logic and coding perspective to add this extra layer of defensive awareness.

I just wanted to get this out there because I disagree with most of the community that says to eliminate or tone down doubles. That would be a step backwards in my view, at least for longer term game design. I'd just like to see more defensive AI be able to be represented in the game to support double team logic and implementation.

I thought I was the only one that experienced something similar.

I was passing the ball in the lane on a fast break and the ball bounces off the lower end of the backboard and into the hands of the waiting pass receiver and he scores on a layup.

I thought I tore a page from the Globetrotters.

I was playing the Pacers against the Mavericks last night offline in myleague. I was trailing the whole game and towards the last quarter, PG was switched to guard JJ Barea and Monte guarding Dirk. So I checked the defensive matchup settings and noticed the cpu auto-assigned PG to JJ.

Feel like turning off Ace at times. This issue hapened last year wherever Clippers were playing, CP3 guarding the best perimeter player. This is SIM at the wrong side of the coin.

This game is the most cheesed than any 2k games before. It's amazing that no matter what skill level, the CPU does amazing things and all of a sudden your players become the most incompetent ones on the court..... I literally put my shooting at 100 just to see how 2k's brilliant CPU would react and wa-la... the CPU puts up shot after shot just to keep itself in the game . And the better I shoot the more ridiculous the turnovers I experienced from my players to keep the CPU in the game....

Patches have improved gameplay, however game still needs plenty of work. I give up on 2K17. Doubt 1-2 more patches will change the core gameplay, animations etc. Hoping 2K18 overhauls its art team and the graphics receive huge attention as does the gameplay.
