Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

I got matched up against a guy last night 2/3 games and he beat me by 30+ each time. It's like we were playing a different game, his guys would get open and swish everything while I'd turn the ball over every play and brick open shots.

I really can't figure out why I'm losing so much, it's like I'm missing out on something. I've tried messing around with the defensive settings but it hasn't made much difference. The biggest difference I see is I'm always missing open 3's while my opponents are hitting them almost every time. It's almost like there is a secret to it I'm missing out on.

I'm in love with this game I've been playing all my free time since it came out but i'm about to give up on it. I really wanna get better it blows my mind how good some people are, maybe I'm just not smart enough haha I feel like you need a degree to play this game.

If anyone has any advice for me, I can't get the hang of playcalling at all I need a mentor lol this game is my passion right now and i'm soo bad

Online can give you skewed results due to lag. Where do you live?

I play mostly Americans and it feels like im a second behind.

I don't think lag is the issue, I live in Canada the game runs smoothly, I just cant grasp these playbooks or what I should be doing with them. I'm always getting exposed on defense and I'm really sloppy on offense

I can beat the AI regularly on superstar but online is such a different game, steals and blocks are happening almost every play. I'm only in the gold league but it seems like everyone I play is really good

I'm not a super good player but a really basic tip on defense is to control someone off the ball. I like playing a Center of PF, the CPU will get beat but it's an easy way to mitigate a lack of experience online in the defense department. Just stick with your man and as long as they can't shoot too much just focus on protecting the rim.

When trying to pull off dribble combos and get to the rim is it better to hold turbo the whole time or wait until you begin to attack?

I'm not really good at smoking the on ball D, but I think the conventional wisdom is turbo when you launch -- get the D leaning one way, preferably the off ball hand, by doing size-ups, then turbo launch the other way, preferably the ball hand.

                Hope that makes sense...

                    Hi,
I hope it's the right thread. I have a question regarding the advanced rotations in my offline MyLeague. Since I'm playing with 11 minutes per quarter (regarding stats that's perfect for me) the minutes in the advanced rotations screen is a litte bit off (12 per quarter are displayed). So, I don't know how to distribute the minutes. For example: When my backup-PG starts at minute 12, is he starting at the beginning of the second quarter or at the end of the first? It seems that I just can't find the right tune. Any help is greatly appreciated.

                    Greetings from Germany!

So the way I think it would work is the 12 minutes would be scaled down to the quarter length you are using. For 11 minutes quarters like you play on every minute on the rotation timeline (total of 12 minutes a quarter) would become 55 seconds. For 6 minute quarters every minute on the rotation timeline (total of 12 minutes a quarter) would become 30 seconds. Example: Jordan Clarkson plays 30 / 48 minutes on the pictured timeline. For 11 minute quarters that would be 27.5 mins
For 6 minute quarters that would mean he plays 15 mins.

So rotation times would be as below on the gameclock

12 min quarters 11 min quarter 6 min quarter
                      1.00 min 0.55 0.30
                      2.00 min 1.50 1.00
                      3.00 min 2.45 1.30
                      4.00 min 3.40 2.00

The way the blocks work are they come in for the minute they are allocated. That means Jordan Clarkson for the first quarter in the pictured rotation comes in at the 0:00 mark of the 1st quarter (starts the game) and plays until the 4:59 mark. When it is past 5 minutes in the quarter he would be subbed out for Delly the next deadball (timeout, foul or ball going out of bounds).

My guess is if I play the first quarter and I have my starters in (Clarkson, Gordon, Simmons, Johnson, P.Gasol) and there are no timeouts until the 10th minute of the quarter it would sub in the guys I have at the 10-11 minute block on the rotation (Delly, Lee, ANderson, Simmons, Pek). So if there isn't constant time outs or dead balls to allow for subs it will skip rotations.

Hey, thanks for the explanation! It got a lot clearer for me, I guess I can work with that. The skipping rotations is something I observed, too. Clarkson got the last minute of the first quarter, but there are rarely timeouts. So the second quarter begins, and Russel is playing again. Last night, I played two games and checked the minute distribution afterwards, and that looked good. The starters played the last minute of the fourth and the relative distribution worked.

I like to spot play, typically the key games. I Don't have time for a full 82 games. For those of you like me here's a little workaround I came across so you don't have to sacrifice your events..Thought I'd share.

I have best results using the turbo button as a "change of direction button" so once i get a defender leaning one way I hit turbo and the left stick the opposite way then release turbo. Remember it's harder to steer your player when turbo'ing
