Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

Hey I'm pretty new to the NBA series and the NBA in general (just started watching regularly last year and I just started playing when 2k16 was given as a free game to PS+ members (which was amazing)) and I'm slowly learning how to get guus open for shots and whatnot. The PnR being my most used method. But strictly playing PnR gets boring fast and is only one aspect of scoring in basketball.

This leads me to my question. I really want to learn how to drive the lane and get to the basket for a layup or dunk. My problem is that when playing against the AI, it seems like two things are happening:

    a. My defender is glued to me and I can't get around him. Ibe been working on this somewhat using Sam Pham's crossovers to try and catch my defender off guard but it hasn't been working that well. I also don't think every drive should be the result of a crossover and a broken ankle.

    B. Other defenders other than my guy are clogging the lane and it seems like said lane is non existant. So I've been forced to pass the ball around endlessly (which I know is a good thing but every basketball player needs to know how to drive.)

Any detailed help would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently playing on All-star as I try to get better at the game.

I keep looking for a specific step-by-step thread on tips for setting up a 30 team control MyLeague, but can't find one. Is it easier than I'm making it out to be in my head? Any advice for a MyLeague noob?

        1. Select MyGM/MyLeague from the main menu
        2. Then MyLeague
        3. Current NBA Teams (if you want to use custom rosters press triangle/Y before)
        4. Go to setup options and select your preference (trade override to yes so CPU doesn't make bad trades
        5. Start mode
        6. Triangle/Y to select all teams, then advance
        7. On the MyLeague automation screen I put auto for all teams and manual for free agent signing, draft, cut player, team option and qualifying offers. Then I go to the team I'm going to use and put everything to manual.
        8. Start your game. You can change the teams with right stick in the menus. If you want to change your settings and automation during MyLeague go to options

For me this is one of the biggest problems with 2k. If you are playing offline you can correct it somewhat with sliders.
Start with body-up sensitivity at 0, driving contact shot around and lateral quickness between 1-10, on-ball defense around 30 (I put everything the same for user and cpu so I don't feel like I'm cheating the cpu).
Increasing acceleration also helps to get more explosion off the dribble. I think strength also plays a part. If it gets easy to finish at the rim you can increase inside contact shot and layup defense strength release. Check some of the great sliders from the community in the slider section. I personally use SimWorlds https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=351123512
Also check out the post #7 on the first page of this thread for some dribbling tips.

Thanks JoFri. All I noticed between Ball Handler/Wing/Point was there were different plays attached. Didn't know that the Play Initiator had anything to do with it.

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

Hi. Not sure this is the right thread for this but I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm mostly playing off-line, getting a feel for the game and I do relatively well (win some lose some) in All-Star and Superstar levels, but my main issue is passing. I can't seem to get my passing right in that it leads to a very high amount of turnovers. I normally get 15-20 turnovers a game, while the CPU loses 3-4 max. I't's like I want to pass to one person but the system gives it to somebody else. I like to play using the sidelines (high, zoom out) camera as it looks much more like TV compared to the 2K camera. So my questions are:

              1) How can I pass to my post man as opposed to the baseline player? If I use my left stick sideways it passes to the baseline, and if I pass it back push it slightly the other way (so that it goes to the post) then it passes it to the other baseline!
              2) When passing to the post / paint, does it make a difference between normal pass, over the head or bounce pass?

Looking forward to some thoughts, it's just frustrating that I can't pass to the people I want and when I do I get so many interceptions. Maybe it's the sliders?

              Thanks!

                1) icon pass will work fine esp if u r playing on AS or SS i suppose.
                2) yes it makes a difference. if u are on HOF, the cpu will intercept such passes. generally a bounce pass is safer and faster too. an overhead pass is slower, and if u didnt hit the left stick in the right direction, u'll risk passing to the other side of the court.

try the touch pass when running a play, super fast ..

Also try experimenting with pass profile in controler settings. I use icon passing 90% of the time so I don't really know what is the best setting but I use a setting than I found in the slider thread (75 for distance, direction and openness).

Thank you both for the help.

I do have another questions that I added to one of the Sliders threads... here it is:

Is there a guide showing what each slider within the slider set does to the game?

There are so many slider sets out there but I have not seen the first manual. I guess you can use "common sense" to sort of guess what each (or most) of them mean but I wonder if it's just the community trying to figure them out without any real/documented support.

Some examples what are Hustle, Hands, Lateral Quickness...?? And what happens if you set them to 0? or 100? 3Pt Success = 100? means every single three pointer falls?

Again, just looking for a manual somewhere, not sure if it exists. I'm afraid there isn't one.

                    Thanks.

Can you start a MyGM within the Start Today feature? I'm only able to do MyLeague.

There is usually a description someone near the bottom of the screen when you highlight each slider. For the most part, over 50 = more, under 50 = less.

Hands are how good defenders are at tipping passes. Hustle in a gameplay sense means how hard players hustle for loose balls and rebounds. Lateral quickness is self explanatory. It means how quickly a player can move laterally, moreso on defense.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Lol i'm always confused with hands. i thought it refers to the ability of the player can catch the pass e.g alley opp. anyways i've stopped messing the sliders since 2k16. i am fine with the default difficulty

So it isn't possible to do a floater with the square button? Last year it happened automatically depending on how far away from the basket you started your layup.

Shooting with the stick isn't a big problem for me but I can't have dribble and shooting with the same stick. I'm not that good and actually don't want to go through the process of learning it tbh.

Honestly I grew up playing NCAA games and always improvised and easily won. Popped in the game yesterday and having a hell of a time trying to play like that but that's the easiest way outside of fast breaks to do it.

Also I would say to keep an eye for anyone cutting to the basket. If you see that double tap Y (if on X1) and you'll get an alllyop chance.

Outside of that just be patient and move the ball looking for the open man or anyone cutting

Yes, I think there is no real documented manual on this topic. People just kind of "guess" what they mean or do, which is fine, but it's still kind of poking in the dark if no official documentation exists.

I think I will stop messing with sliders as well and stick to default settings.
