Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

Hi. I want to talk about teams owner trust in MY GM. I am 1 in East Conference with 76ers(33/11) in first season. I have great squad but my ****ing stupid team owner trust decreased a bit. F.e. job security by 2 points, team success by 12 points(!) and franchise morale by 1 point even i play great. I dont like those stupid questions, where isnt one good answer for all sides. F.e. i won 5 W in a row and press asked will my W continue long time. I answered yes and everybody were happy except my team owner. I dont like that victories in this game means very little. Where i can find in one place how to deal with those morale things, trust and etc.?

I've never worried about owner trust too much, that should come pretty easily from carrying out demands, wishes, etc

Only things I really worry about are Press Trust & Player morale. Having a higher Press trust means they will give you really easy questions (ones with answers that make everyone happy, or give better boosts). Questions like the "Two BIG wins in a row" or "What area of the team are you most happy with?" If your press trust gets too low (Under 40 or so I think), they'll start hitting you with the questions with no good answers.

Keeping player morale up is the most important part of MyGM. Try to keep everyone around 75 or higher. Never promise anyone anything, promises are still completely broken this year. Use your GM level upgrades to get the +15 and +30 morale boosters for when your bench players complain about playing time.

Other than that, keep winning games and making money and the owner opinion will take care of itself

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

I don't know what specifically I need help with, maybe just a little bit of everything in general.

I am playing MyGM mode with the Orlando Magic, most updated roster, so I have Terrance Ross instead of Ibaka.

Because I am the Magic, I know I am going to struggle, and that's fine. I like rebuilding the team and finding success. And after my 2K16 experience, I know that building my team will fix a lot of these errors (in season 2 with my Magic in 2K16, I signed LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, and Elfrid Payton and Aaron Gordon were for some reason lock down 3 point shooters, and after my bad 1st season, I drafted Brandon Ingram high who was also a knock down 3 point shooter, so basically I was able to just drive with LeBron and when the defense crashed on them, kick out to Payton, Gordon, Oladipo, Hezonja, or Ingram for the 3. I ended up winning the championship with total ease).

But I also feel like my games are taking a familiar script everytime out.

I've made some trades to improve the shooting on my team. I have some B+ and A rated 3 point shooters, after making a trade for Wesley Matthews and Seth Curry. I run a lot of pick and roll with Payton and either Gordon or Vucevic, which regularly gets open dunks for Gordon or Vuc, and run plays designed to get Ross, Fournier, or Curry open looks from 3 (along with Jodie Meeks, and a signed Lance Stephenson).

This strategy will work pretty well for the 1st half, and I can go into halftime with a small lead, or tied, or if I am trailing, it will be close. I'll typically even build something like a 9-13 point lead sometime in the 2nd quarter.

But then there is -always- a spurt where the CPU basically hits everything at will, and no matter what I do, no matter how open my shooters get, and no matter how good of releases I can get, while the CPU is going on this run, I am totally missing everything I put up (including layups), or turning the ball over constantly.

I call timeouts to try to stop the momentum, I make strategy adjustments and all that, but it's almost like clockwork when I know my lead is going to get wiped out, and I'll go from about 12 points up to 12 points down, and never be able to catch up. And it feels like there's nothing I can do about it.

          I play on Superstar difficulty.

I wonder how much of this is just my team? (acceptable. Tho it is frustrating when I still do have highly rated shooters who can't hit wide open shots, and meanwhile the CPU can just make any shot they want)

How much of this is my stick skills?

How much of this is perhaps some settings that I may be overlooking?

How much of this is game design?

Ahhh, the age old "3rd quarter cheese" argument, some could swear it's real and they've seen it, while other claim it's a figment of their imagination.
I see it in every game, either my team runs away from being down or up by a few points to 10+ or the opposition comes back to make it a close game.
The devs have said it doesn't exist in the coding or anywhere, and they're probably right, but there's a definite feeling that one team becomes immortal for a few minutes and it might be on purpose, since at the start of the second half it's like a restart to the game.

I don't know if it's a coded thing or not. Sometimes it feels like it, but then I have seen first hand just what improving my roster can do.

Although I did have a bit of a cheeseball roster admittedly last year when I went on my MyGM championship run. If it wasn't for the insane level of 3 point shooting I had that made the Golden State Warriors look tame, I probably wouldn't have won the championship. All it took was the best player in NBA 2K (LeBron), having 2 of my young players incorrectly rated as high level 3 point shooters (Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton), and everyone else on the roster being a high caliber 3 point shooter (Brandon Ingram, Victor Oladipo, Mario Hezonja, Lance Stephenson)

Either way, I'm about to get in another MyGM game, see if I can figure some things out.

Is there anyway to use the Start Today feature with a custom roster? I've tried everything but can't seem to do it.

Picked up some great tips for D here.

Anyone have any advice on when to use the deny/smother settings, especially deny on offball? Does that leave you open to quick cuts to the basket, cos playing tight at the perimeter I had that issue? Is deny a good setting for a star center/post scorer?

Also the help settings...I assume this is tied to the Help Frequency slider. The AI sometimes gets me in trouble here when I'm switching on picks. Does the Help And No Rotation setting mean once the offense is contained the help defender moves back to their assignment? And if I set Help to No Help rather than Auto, does that just mean I control any help defense manually?

How do you make off-ball players run to space?

Whenever I call plays the AI players just stand there and do nothing.

                      More questions:

How do you make your center/big man stay by the hoop instead of running to the perimeter like an idiot? Every time I drive the ball up the court my center decides to go play by the 3 point line, even though I didn't call any offense that told him to do that. He does it by default.

How do you drive past big slow defenders? I have speedy point guards but they can't get around the big men even on the perimeter. I have tried sprinting, changing direction, and it doesn't matter a big slow guy like Steven Adams can effectively prevent Russell Westbrook from driving on him. WTF?

I use smother onball all the time, I like the intensity and pressure on the ball handler by my AI defender. seldom deny as it gives frequent quick cuts. also, help defense is slower to react due to proximity.

defending a post scorer who is versatile and can drive to basket easily or can shoot from post i.e. kawhi leonard then Tight will be good. even then, i'll think onball D will be better off cos the AI now is smarter and knows how to pump fake. yor AI defender will likely jump off the fake ... I also sometimes jump on the fake though. so use RS to contest (not so close) if yor sliders are default 2K sliders.

when u set to No Help on Lbj eg., and when u blow the defense and he drives into paint, yor AI teammates do not help u cover him. yes, u need to rely more on controlling yor defense rotation manually.

what mode (myleague, mycareer etc), team, playbook are u playing? If u are the spurs, default freelance is Swing and u will have a big man standing at the top of the key everytime u dont call a play.

drive past defenders require read and react on defense and space is impt. meaning u dont look at yor dribbling when u do a sizeup move, u look at the defender and see if he shifts his defensive stance. when u do a hesitation escape, did he move? when u back dribble, did he move? once he bite on yor dribble, say to the right, u move to the left at an angle (not towards the basket). some players blow past faster when crossover. some players have loose handles that can trick the AI defender easily. players with tight handles cant trick the AI defender but explode with lightning quick speed. what sliders are u playing, custom or default 2K and which level of difficulty are u on? It has an impact on the effectiveness on the move.

I can only score off pick & rolls and with shooting bigs. I can't for the life of me figure out how to build an offense around wing players. My top scorers are always my bigs and my PG usually has double digit assists, but the rest of the team gets nothing, except for maybe one lucky three point shot. For instance I'm better off having Speights on my team as apposed to DeRozan. I want to make my game more versatile. How do I need to start playing to make this happen. I play against the CPU on Hall of Fame btw.

had the same issue with russ..than i stopped holding R2. nobody can stop since..also attack the open space you'll activate some dribble animation.

I am looking for a good playbook to run with my MyLeague Grizzlies Team.

I drafted Lonzo Ball and his backcourt mate is Jordan Clarkson, So I have two good ball handlers and decent shooters.

Josh Richardson is my SF. Then i have John Collins a Big who can hit the mid range and Jarrett Allen who is mainly a post scoring player. Both are good PNR bigs.

I tried out Portland's PB last night and hated it. Does anyone know of a good PB with some good PNR plays, some decent get 3 point look plays and decent mid range big guy plays.

I like versatility in my PB. The best of luck I have had was the 13 Heat playbook but it's hit or miss.

                                Anyone have any suggestions?
