Re: NBA 2K17 Trade Discussion Thread

Starting my mavericks association in mygm, l love all the players on the roster for the most part except jj barea.. crowded at the point with him deron and d Harris. I prefer to use Harris as the backup. Thinking bout dropping barea and picking up a new guy but seems unrealistic or trading right before the season starts. I'll probably carry him on until some team will need an extra point due to injury so might as well get sum value back for him. Just debating who to get for him in class he first place.. any ideas? Could use a better small forward backup other than Justin Anderson.. I don't really want to give up any other guys besides barea.. maybe bogut if another guy shall be used. Would love to hear any ideas !

Nets trade Lopez to Phoenix and received Asik from Pelicans and 1 round pick (PHX protected top 3). I wonder where Lin should go

        How does this trade sound?

I'm at the beginning of January and Phoenix is out of contention is the West. New Orleans is around the 5th seed in the West and Philly fighting for the playoffs in the East. Noel has also said that he wants to test free agency.

PHX in - 17 1st Rounder lottery protected (NO) and TJ McConnell
        PHX out - Brandon Knight

Reasoning - Dump Knight because he was the odd man out between Bledsoe and Booker. Get a first rounder and a young PG who is an Arizona Wildcat and on a cheap contract as their backup PG.

PHI in - Knight and Alexis Ajinca
PHI out - Noel and McConnell

Reasoning - Get a solid scoring G, who is young and on a team friendly contract and a capable backup center as an insurance policy.

        NO in - Noel
NO out - 17 1st Rounder lottery protected and Ajinca

Reasoning - Get a young shot blocking big to play Center next to Davis. However, are taking a gamble by giving up a 1st since Noel could leave after after the season.

          Thoughts on this trade?

Brice Johnson (PF) B Potential from MEM

          To the Warriors for:

Charlie Villanueva (PF, 34 years old)
          2019 1st round top 5 protected.

My thought is that Brice has been playing well for me, so they want him for Bench output, and in return I'd replace him with someone in the draft, and Charlie would be a short term solution. And usually, the pick wouldn't be fair, but I'm wondering.. would GSW give up picks to improve their bench like I listed? He's a young, decent potential talent. Better than Charlie and has a 2 year team option, so.

I don't think a first for one bench player with upside would happen. They're going to likley trade firsts for multiple players on the bench

I like that trade. If anything, I might just send an unprotected 2nd rounder to Philly from Phoenix to sweeten it just a tad, but since Noel's trade value is low right now, getting Knight -- a legitimate point guard signed to a great deal considering the cap spike -- is more than equal value. Knight's rather young, too, so there's still room for improvement for him (albeit not as much as Noel, but Noel doesn't want to be there).
                Any comments are welcome.

Re: NBA 2K17 Trade Discussion Thread

Im not sure of the realism of this trade could someone help me out?

Im in year 2 of my Kings rebuild sitting at 11-22. I still have Matt Barnes, but hes simply a reserve with a 72 Ovr. He's 37 years old in the last year of his contract and im sure hes going to retire.

My team is in drastic neef for 3 point shooting. Kyle Korver is the best candidate in free agency, but I shop Barnes around first just out of curiosity. The Jazz, a fringe playoff contender offer me Troy Carlisle, a low rated undrafted SF, and their 18' 2nd rounder for Matt Barnes and our 20' 2nd rounder.

I'll quickly cut Carlisle to make room for Korver

Utah is in bad need for depth at SF. Gordan Hayward left for Boston in Free Agency and they traded Alec Burks last year so they have Rodney Hood starting with no real backup.

Is this a realistic trade giving up a draft pick this year for Barnes in the last year of his career for 1 year of badly needed depth?

If the Jazz are a fringe playoff contender, the question becomes one of degrees. How fringe are the Jazz? If the season ended today, would they be in the playoffs? Are they on a winning or losing streak, and what number of games have they won/lost on that streak?

If the Jazz are in the playoffs now and are in the midst of a losing streak, then I can see them making that trade. Utah hasn't been in the playoffs in forever and if they can make it without Hayward and Burks, that makes the accomplishment all the more impressive.

If Utah is on a winning streak and in the playoffs if the season ended today, I don't see them upsetting team chemistry for Barnes. If you have team chemistry off, then I could see them doing the deal, but if chemistry's on and they're on a winning streak, I don't see Utah doing the deal.

If Utah isn't in the playoffs if the season ended today and are more than 3 games out of the playoff picture, this trade reeks of desperation and is entirely plausible depending on who's occupying the 7th and 8th best records in the NBA. If someone like, say the Spurs, are 8th, than Matt Barnes isn't helping you get past them or any team ahead.

If it's someone like the T'Wolves or Suns, maybe Barnes is helpful.

Lots of factors to weigh depending on Utah's situation and the situation of the rest of the league.

Really good points. If the season ended right now theyed be an 8 seed, so youre right. Barnes gives them depth, but will it really matter come playoff time. I guess now my options are cut barnes and eat his $6 million salary for the year and sign Korver for the min. Or just keep barnes. Seeing as we are going to finish with a below .500 record I may just go with the latter and keep Barnes on the bench.

Oh yeah and it seems like Utah is doing fairly good because they traded burks, whos starting at 2 for pheonix now, for their 17 1st rounder and they took frank ntilikina, who seems amazing. Dropped 47 on me the other night starting at PG with Exum out hurt. They also used their own lotto pick to take Bam Abedayo who is pretty nice off the bench behind favors. Burks and Hayward didnt just drop out of the league.

Re: NBA 2K17 Trade Discussion Thread

I'm in early January and Atlanta has gotten off to a slow start in my Myleague. Howard is injured, so it may be time for them to throw in the towel for the 16-17 season. So what kind of value would a Millsap and Korver package have? Millsap has team option and Korver is in the last year of his deal, so both could be rentals. Who would say no in this type of a deal?

ATL gets - Julius Randle, Lou Williams & Amir Johnson

Basically are going the tank route by trading away their vets. However, they get their PF for the future, a younger SG who's more athletic and scrappy PF who has an expiring contract.

LAL gets - Marcus Smart, Jonas Jerebko & 17 2nd (BOS)

Get their SG of nice defensive minded guard to pair with Russell and Ingram. Losing Randle hurts, but Jerebko is a stop gap, but will help stretch the floor. Plus, he has an expiring deal so they can go after an upgrade in free agency.

BOS gets - Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver

                        Become the Boston Hawks
They take a gamble on losing Smart for two older players who could leave in the offseason. However, Millsap is still a very solid player and can play both PF and SF in spots. They also lose Amir and take a hit on shot blocking, but Millsap and Korver shooting is much needed in order to give IT4 space to work. Rozier, who was receiving very little playing time before will take on the backup PG role.

*LAL are also a bottom three team out West so they're basically out of playoff contention, as well.

Anybody got any suggestions for PG trades for both the Grizzlies and Clippers? Conley and CP3 are both done for the year and their teams are still in playoff contention. There's cheap options out there like Ty Lawson and Jarrett Jack. Both of their teams are basically out of it, so I think they could probably be flipped for a prospect and a 2nd or something like that.

Anyone got any other bigger ideas than that? Although, anything bigger would probably mean a huge shakeup for those teams (MEM, LAC).

How in contention are the Clippers/Grizz playoff wise? Barely hanging on or firmly 5th, 6th seed? If they're barely hanging on (if I recall, the Clippers are), then I think trading a major piece is on the table.

Memphis has a 2017 1st rounder that's protected only 1-5, else it goes to Denver -- if Conley is down and they're barely hanging on, it might behoove them to trade Randolph (aging, on an expiring deal as I recall) and get a pick back from a contender -- Randolph is easily worth a low-1st, especially if he's allowed to be the sixth man and feast on second-units. With Randolph gone, Conley down, and only Gasol+Parsons, Memphis has a shot at retaining their pick -- and even if they don't, getting a 1st in 2017 for Randolph in a deep draft is a good consolation prize and helps take the sting off from conveying a lottery selection to Denver (who would likely trade that lottery selection+some of their assets for a good player, cause Denver has way too many young pieces on their roster, they need to commit to the playoffs next year).

The Clippers have a 2017 1st rounder that's lottery protected heading to Toronto. No CP3 and a barely .500 record (if I remember right) signals to me that it's time to move either Blake or Jordan; considering Blake's importance to the franchise (and the fact that his contract expires this season as I recall, he has a PO that he'll likely exercise), I think Doc sends Jordan away -- who will have 1 year left at the start of the 2017 season on his current contract and has a PO the next year (again, he'll opt out probably).

If Doc can tank his team enough to stay in the lottery, get another 1st/prospect from another team for Jordan, that would set the Clippers up much better short and long-term. Their cap sheet will be a mess if they retain Blake, CP3, and Jordan next season, so I feel breaking the band up is viable rather than staying in the playoff race and getting slaughtered by a higher seed without CP3.

                            Just my thoughts.

Just a couple ideas I wanted to jot down. The first two trades I pulled in my game in the SECOND season (2017-18) due to injuries and whatnot. I don't remember them in full so it might be a little off. The other two after are current trade rumors that I wanted to know people's opinion on.

                              TRADE 1 (from Season 2)

OKC gets: Brook Lopez (at the time both Steven Adams and Enes Kanter are injured)

BKN gets: Ian Mahimi (OKC picked up in offseason), Cameron Payne, 2018 1st Round unprotected

                              TRADE 2 (from Season 2)

                              MIN gets: Paul Milsap

ATL gets: Zach Lavine...I can't remember who/what else.

Minnesota actually wins the NBA Finals in my file after this trade

TRADE 3 (current rumor that seems unlikely)

CLE gets: Julius Randle, Louis Williams, Jose Calderon

                              LAL gets: Kevin Love

TRADE 4 (current rumor that seems unlikely)

CHI gets: Jabari Parker, Tyreke Evans

MIL gets: Jimmy Butler, Omar Asik

NO gets: Greg Monroe, Michael Carter-Williams

I'll edit Trade 2 after I go back into my file and try to remember who was traded, but I don't think I'll find out since I'm already in Season 4 (just a test run to learn the 30 team control responsibilities).

Forgive me for posting this here but can someone please, please explain what a protected pick is?

I've never understood "top 5 protected" or "lottery protected" and stuff like that. But I feel it's a big part of the trading process from what I can see.

If someone could explain and give me a scenario where it works that would be great.

Thanks guys and sorry for the noob question!
