No matter what settings I tinker, on/off ball set to deny/suffocate, full-court press, go over screens, you name it, my A.I defenders will more than likely sag off the opponent's best outside threat.

Not to mention the amount of cheap buckets the CPU scores on me purely because of lazy transition defense, or after a free throw attempt. The CPU's center will simply stroll down to the other side with NOBODY picking him up.

Also, when you try to dribbling for too long or try to pass inside, there's a high chance it will result in a turnover. BUT when the CPU does this, my A.I defenders are too slow to react, thus resulting in an easy basket. More often than not, it seems the bigs (your A.I teammate) are always the weak link.

    I second this entire post.

Lots of new options came in for defense. But none of them work..... haha. Seem's incredibly dumb IMO. Hopefully rather than bring in another 100 new things, they polish the old things first in 2K18.

I'd personally take less with maximum function, then more with minimal function. But that's me.

      Exactly: less with maximum function.
All those options for defense does not fix the mess this part of the game has become. Defensive rotations? The CPU does not have a clue about what it should mean.

"It wasn't really fun" is one reason. It played too similarly and I felt like it wasn't really challenging me mentally + rage moments of people getting things they didn't deserve or getting robbed out of stuff and losing games.

The real reason is simply that there weren't any good 5 on 5 pick up and play modes, as I said before. It's like oh I just played my post scorer in pro am or park, man I feel like dunking on people, I wish I had a slasher, I'd make a guy like this (think about it, maybe actually gen the dude), and then it's like... man, I don't have the energy to grind up another player.

With that in mind, it just felt really stressful to play. It, in another way, wasn't 'fun.' It felt like I had to maximize my VC earnings, but I'd never get enough VC to make a 3rd dude (made 2 dudes like 85ish w/o buying vc, so it's not like I didn't play the game.) In the end, it was that I wanted to master new things, but I didn't wanna put in the grind to get the players up.

For 2k, it was about par for the course, wack things like brick walls and 30 footers, but there used to be people setting picks to get rebounds. It's always something. Mainly it was just being locked into dudes you had to spend real time/money on felt too limiting to me. I began to feel exploited, and began to resent it haha.

That's very understandable, at times it feels to me like I paid full price for a game which works on a model similar to some of the more annoying F2P games.

This is how I feel too, but that doesn't seem to be part of their development DNA. They're going to keep adding a lot of new options even if they end up not really working that well. They've been saying for a couple of years that when all of the foundational pieces are built, they will be able to produce something spectacular, so we'll have to see if this is the year that it pays off, or will this be another building block version.

Looking at it cynically, always adding so many new elements works really well for reviewing scores and critical acclaim. They get points for innovation, but the game isn't played long enough to see that many of these elements have flaws that really hurt the long term enjoyment of the game.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

                Absolutely couldn't agree more.

This essentially lead to the reason I stopped playing. The AI rotations - specifically outlined in my first post on this thread.

And the games are not perfect - of course they aren't. And I play through the "legacy" issues with that in mind. But the AI rotations (and specifically what it was allowing me to exploit) in 2K17 were GAME BREAKING.

I really hope this is not in 2K18 and I really hope 2K are aware of how big the issues were in 2K17.

Yall would but the community as a whole would revolt. They already claim its the same game, can you imagine not adding anything new?

This forum is a very low segment of those 10 million sales and they can't just cruise control it although I get what youre saying because we feel alot alike round these parts, but I also understand we arent everyone.

I do think they know how unhappy people were. Hopefully we get some actual good input from those community guys this week.

Re: Why did you stop playing 2K17?

I agree with almost everyone's well detailed opinions on 2K17 this year. From my perspective, 2k obviously did great in sales because it's the only game in the market. But, I feel like they lost a lot of fans who have been seeing the slow decline of 2k over the years.

For me personally the entire experience of 2k killed it for me VERY early this year. All the way from the thousands of patches, slow animation filled gameplay, high shooting percentages EVERY game, broken defensive game plan that NEVER work. That's just my few nitpicks of this year's game.

I'm a big MyLeague/My GM player. I really enjoy playing 82 game seasons, controlling decisions. Basically managing seasons like it's a real NBA season with resting players, trading for valuable pieces, and making my team competitive enough to win a championship. My point is this was my first year not even getting passed the 5th game of a season... That was hard to stomach as a long time 2k customer.

My hope for next year is they bring back that organic feel to the game, and make the game as SIM as possible like they say every year. I will be getting both 2k18 and Live 18, and if 2k18 can't deliver and Live 18 is decent enough for enjoyable game. I will be making a switch this year

                      Yep....

I guess they tend to listen to at least a few things (per cycle) and I suppose the "hope" is something from someone's list is cleaned up.

So it's just one of those cases of "if you don't ask, you don't get". Odds are probably slim - but hey, voice it anyway and see what happens.....

The game will come out soon, but then 14 patches will follow.

(don't get me started on this community event....) ugghhh.....(queue the fire emojis and vague praise comments). To me it's just a chance to (maybe) see some of the game and maybe hear from the minority who reports substance (usually an OS member).

Back on topic, usually each year 2K is at least playable until the next one releases and if I stop, it's just because my attention went elsewhere (2K11 being the only one I ever kept playing until the next launch day).

But this year was the 1st one where something in the game rendered it completely unplayable for me. 1st ever!! Soooo discouraging and deflating - so I'm more interested than ever to hear others thoughts on 2K17. Sadly.... I'm finding it's a common feeling.

                        * Terrible defensive rotations & the stone walling on drives even after you beat the AI with a good move they recover right away

                        * Late game AI which I been complaining about for years now - if they have no more timeouts they won't roll the ball up court, if they only have time for a lob to the basket they'll still try to throw up a quick shot that they don't have time to even get off completely kills close games

                        * control - always felt like I was fighting my controller to wind up with an input I didn't want

                        * Lack of crowd atmosphere - if I get a huge block and nail a three immediately after places like Oracle arena should be exploding with noise

                                Gameplay was absolutely atrocious.

                                - Help defense and Switch defense was a serious issue
                                - 3 point marksman going 2 for 20 alot on wide open shots. I know people miss shots or have bad nights but it was happening way too much.
                                - Forced turnovers
