Quick question, will all CPU PGs or ball handler walk up the ball after you score on their team? Or just teams who play with slow tempo? Thanks!

Mostly just the slower teams. This is another one of those it's a game not real life scenarios. To get the higher scoring teams to score above 120 we couldn't allow them to walk it up because on average they would walk it up too many possessions. I don't have that type of granular control yet to allow them or limit them to x amount.

The only way I could get their AI vs AI scores up with to allow them to run it up.

So on the top scoring teams you will barely see them walking and the slowest teams will walk alot if the opposition is scoring, on misses, everyone runs.

What I do with plays and freelances has a really low usage rate as far as our total customer base so it is harder to give priority to things like this, that would definitely be cool but almost no one would use it in terms of our total install base.

So considering that I would say this is not very likely but it could happen. I get the need i just have to do a lot of coordinating with other areas and they are usually swamped and it comes down to how many people will this affect and ...

I get clowned all the time internally because some of the stuff I want takes a lot of time and they like man less than 0.1 percent of our users even use that LOL!

I totally understand the want though and I will keep fighting the good fight.

Even more appreciated os the amount of information and candidness (is that even a word? LOL) of your answers here.

I wanted to ask if there is an individual "walk the ball" tendency beyond team pace. I would ideally expect, for example, williams to bring the ball up slower than rose (not the best example but got a brain freeze) . also if it is tied to fatigue or to the score (e.g. protecting a lead vs. Trying to catch up).
        Thanks

I like how you are thinking, at this point no we do not have that but I added your suggestion as something to think about.

What type of variance would you expect if Deron was on an uptempo team ? Is the coach more important than an individual players tendencies in regards to pace ?

Is there a big enough difference between a low walk up tendency player on a fast team and a fast walk up tendency player on a fast team to justify the work of putting that in ?

It depends on what you notice when you play. If you like the demo the day 1 patch is more of what you saw there. It is really hard to quantify.

Yeah, that's an issue and I get it. For some of the stuff you are building, though, there might be a case to make that utilization would increase if user ease of access to functions were optimized.

0.1% is too heavy a lift to persuade, but if maybe the e-sports hot shots got behind some of these things and found competitive advantage in better UI like this, then maybe there's more of a business case to make.

If 3% of users become interested, but those 3% include high profile competitive gamers who in turn set an online trend, then maybe there's a way to build out more of the cool stuff you're doing.

Just thinking out loud. Got my work head on right now so this is the kind of stuff I live with daily.

One thing I'm really wanting to know on the offensive side is Layups with contact.

2k has been notorious for letting a player like 5'7 Isiah T effect a player like LeBron 's shot and body him.

Will height and weight finally play a factor this year?

This will create another chest match with the awesome system you all created, Having to switch say IT on the pick n roll from Curry to Durant would force the D to change their gameplan.

This is not my area, but I do believe they tried to address this. Mike would be the best person to ask about shots, layups and contests,

Again I can't say for certain this is resolved or improved but I think i recall something.

I would say that the individual players tendency would take precedence -- players play, coaches coach, and players got to buy in.

On the second question, ideally, a slower player like Deron Williams wouldn't be playing in a fast paced system that required him to bring the ball up -- Williams' system proficiency in such a scheme would be low, so the coach would deploy him differently/vary the system if he were playing.

I don't think the system proficiency feature is even close to grasping that kind of detail yet, but in the future you wouldn't see someone like Williams running a run and gun system as a first option -- the coach wouldn't start him in that and the AI GM wouldn't sign Williams for that.
                Any comments are welcome.

Thanks for answering Da_Czar! Perhaps in the future, the CPU can be programmed to walk the ball up only if they are scored on with 8 seconds or less left on the shot clock since that would signify a grueling defensive effort?

Thanks again, you guys have all but talked me into a purchase the past 2 days.* Spectacular presentation.

Thank you! I can't speak for user vs user but this is a much improved area of our game this year. I tried to show you in the video's that the AI has no issue getting past itself ( AI vs AI) as I know this is a big question because of how frustrating our game was in this area last year.

They key this year is taking advantage of the mismatch before OG's defense switches back.

In fact, (again we add so much it can never all be covered in a blog), another thing we added this year was adjusting our bodyup system in transition to account for speed and direction of both defender and the offensive player.

This helps to simulate getting downhill on a defender.

So if you are coming down in transition and the defender is standing still or moving forward the system accounts for this differently than if you both were standing still.

I don't know how to quote from another thread, but this quote from Davez in the MyLeague thread has me even more excited:

"Quick update, then I'll really disappear for a while...

The bearded wonder, aka Leftos, just added the system proficiency stuff to Edit Staff, so you'll be able to change the coach's preferred system, active system, and proficiency rating for each of the available systems. He also added the max attributes for each of the coach attribute ratings (this is the highest they can progress to), and years left on contract (can't add the contract value for a plethora of reasons, though). So, he came to the rescue for that stuff that I had previously said weren't being done this year (and Yu Gu - aka Lord YGu in the in-game social feed - was the rockstar that got the edit name in last second)."

So we can edit this stuff in ML so after a few years we could really change the teams and league up and have that reflected in their playstyle.
