Crazy some people are having lag/crashing issues. Online has been perfect for me, no crazy load times or waiting forever to play on the park. I do have the disc version so maybe that's it?

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
Thon Maker is a monster on this game, he blocks shots, shoots the jumper decent, rebounds and leads fast breaks with decent ball handling.

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
Didn't even have to finish the first quarter before my concern was eased. I was the Bucks vs Lakers and so far LA is 1/5 and i'm 1/4. My 3's admittedly were not the best shot selection but I gave Brandon Ingram 2 open looks for 3 and one he hit and one he missed, Ball missed an open corner three. The others, for some reason Brook Lopez shot a corner 3 and Lopez shot a 3 from the center. Not sure why Brook Lopez is chucking up 3's like that.
One other cool thing I noticed was the crowd counting down the shot clock while I was on D but really there was actually like 5-6 more seconds left on the shot clock than they were counting. Don't remember hearing that in last year's game although at this point it's possible I just don't remember because this game is so good that everything with last year's game feels like a distant memory.
So I guess it was just the opponents I was playing. I do use real FG % so just like in real life, Golden State will torch you from beyond the arch if you give them any space. The more I play this game, the better it gets. I honestly feel bad for the people that are trying so hard to convince themselves this game is just the same thing it is each year and that the other game is better. I get difference of tastes and opinions but the 2 games aren't even close and if you honestly think this game doesn't feel and play better than year's past then I'm not sure what you're looking at. Every NBA 2k post they put on Facebook is filled with negative comments about how it's just the same thing as last year and whining about the servers or having to recreate their MyPlayer guy. I'm glad I don't play online or MyPlayer because if I let that stuff bother me then i'd be missing out on a great game. If you're an offline MyLeague type player like myself, then this game is incredible and the basketball equivalent of what MLB the Show is for baseball. (now if we can only get a football game on that level *don't see that happening anytime soon*)Comment

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
The Neighborhood, while it was a great idea, could have had far more to it than it does. Love the look, but it just doesn't feel like enough from an 18th edition of NBA 2K. The MyCareer mode itself, is weak in my opinion. I just don't have the time nor patience to play 82 games against a cheesing arcade CPU, while my team plays like complete trash. There is no reason my Cavs should be 9-10 in MyCareer, getting blown out by double digits in every loss, including a few 30+ point losses. No one can shoot, no one can dribble, no one can rebound, no one can defend, and if you aren't a PG, you can forget it. It also seems some outcomes are forced in favor of cutscenes after the games, which means you had no chance from the get go. And you can see this in game.
My guy is 85 OVR and I'm literally not interested in this Mode, for the umpteenth year in a row. They clearly haven't figured out how to code the CPU a.i for fair play simulation. Also, I haven't figured out how to get the simulated teams to play the same length quarters. Which makes the Mode completely unbalanced.
MyTeam, is also arcade style gameplay that I am losing interest in really fast. While I have completed many of the early drills, (weekly and so forth) I just don't like how the game feels too forced and predetermined in favor of the computer as always. Playing the Miami Heat feels like playing the 80's Lakers on offense, and their defense is like the 90's Bulls. It's ridiculous. Also, guys that are supposed to specialize in certain areas, stink. Devin Booker can't hit 3's to save his life, yet my 69 ovr SF drills them consistently. Goran Dragic has ZERO business stealing the ball from Kyrie Irving on multiple occasions, just so the CPU can seem hard to beat. Also user vs user games feels one-sided. I have two guys quit on me because nothing they did worked. And I've seen it in the 4 losses I got as well. No skill, just hope the game is your favor at tip-off, and away you go.
Pro-Am was fun in the only game I did play as a walk-on, other than the fact 90% of these kids have no clue how to play basketball. So winging it in that mode as a walk-on is a waste of your time unless you get a squad with a clue. Good luck with that.
MyPark I don't bother, and haven't bothered for years.
There is also the invisible wall CPU defense again. You have a clear lane in front of you, yet because a CPU defender is a step behind you, or on the side of you, you either stop or run in quicksand, so that you can't drive. This happens WAAAYYYY too often for my liking. Also, there is no reason for NBA players to mishandle simple passes, especially on fast breaks just so the CPU can get back on defense when beat. The invisible wall defense is more notable on baselines. I've had well over 40 open baselines drives stopped by an invisible wall. Forcing me to pull up a lame jumper, or some horrible layup animation from too far away. It's like this game refuses to reward you for playing smart, or playing actual basketball.
I also noticed that your teammates A.I. is atrocious as always. They run directly to defenders so passes can be stolen or you can't attempt the pass to avoid it from being stolen. Also outlet passes hang in the air far too long, which makes your teammate slow down, allowing defenders to catch up. Why is this still going on 2K?
Looks like Franchise is where it's at once again, where you can tweak sliders, and try and get the gameplay to some sort of NBA resemblance. There is too much focus on arcade kiddie play, and not for the more hardcore gameplayers. I will say that I think I'll be able to tolerate this game this year a lot longer than I did last year which lasted maybe a month. At least I'm hoping it lasts.
6/10 Score for me. Too many Modes that are cheesy and unbalanced, especially in favor of the cpu teams. The looks of these games aren't what's important. It's the gameplay 1st!"The Mind is a terrible thing to waste"Comment

Curious, why are people playing on anything less than SS when you don't get full ace. I've played on hof and SS. The CPU ace is phenomenal. Give it a try folks.

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
Does anyone else feel like the post play doesnt work properly? The dev's talked about post play saying it was improved, and never been more fun, but to me i feel less control over my player than in previous games in the post, and i cant seem to hit hook shots even when im right underneath the net, and drop steps dont work properly, sometimes the defender still just clips thru your body to block your shot when you have pretty much unstoppable position right under the hoop, shoulda known they had no clue what they were talking about with the post, it feels terrible this year.Comment

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
Yea I remember seeing how he was working on his outside game more as are a lot of big men these days. But I still can't see him shooting 6-8 threes a game. At least if he were on my team i'd hope we wouldn't need a 7 footer like Brook Lopez to be chucking up 3's that often.Last edited by mhayden614; 09-16-2017, 03:13 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
It was Brook and yes Brook does shoot 3's every now and then but I just thought it was strange how much he was playing on the perimeter and not the paint. The corner 3 was the alarming one, the other at the top of the key was more understandable. But 2 attempts in 1 quarter, I just don't want to see Brook Lopez shooting 8 three's in a game.

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but still feel like it needs to be brought to light.
The clipping, when it's just a visual issue, can be looked past. However, when a guy does a spin move THROUGH your trap/double team, dribbling completely through your defenders chest, only to go on and hit a jumper to give the CPU team the lead... that's where I have an issue. I've seen this junk several times at integral parts of the game. People are going to say "It's a videogame, it's going to do videogame things." That's fine, but these things are only happening during the times where the CPU needs a bucket. That tells me that it's a coding thing, basket at any cost.
Call a foul on me, call a foul on them, just don't do what happened there. There's nothing more annoying than to have a good game going, for 3 or 3 1/2 quarters, to have the supercheese CPU come out in full force, basically ruining the last 40-45 minutes worth of game you've played.
Now, onto this:
This is the same crap as above, on a different level. When OG is talking about defenders making a difference, and intelligence etc making a difference, I was expecting this type of cheese to be gone. If you're locking up the CPU on defense, and they're determined to score, this bad boy rears his ugly head. All of the sudden, your teammate defenders will lose their train of thought, getting completely out of position, allowing an easy bucket. There's nothing you can do. I try to take control of the defense that's pushed out of position, and he does a little hitchy animation, still allowing the CPU to score.
More cheesy tactics:
I didn't get the first of the clip, but Taj was basically forced out of position, only to get caught up on his own teammate. I'm Wiggins, and see this, and start trying to get over to Draymond, but it will not even register that I'm furiously trying to cut off the pass. Instead, it makes me get caught on Draymond's back, and Taj allows the ball to tip his nose on the way through, lol.
This phenomenal defense by the computer is back as well:
Jimmy stutters long enough for JR to catch up from the free throw line and maul him to get the "steal". This one is whatever, it aggravates me, but I can handle it.
Defensive awareness by my teammates is awful.
It's the same thing as it's been. Its like they aren't sure how to make the CPU challenging without forcing cheesy scripted moments.
I've got a ton of examples on the PS4 hard drive right now that I just want FIXED. I'm sure I'll get flamed by other saying to deal with it, but the game has SO many resources, a huge team, these things should not be happening.
And here's why it bothers me so much. The presentation, the graphics, the MyLeague setup, the menu's and options, the editing, even the commentary, is all phenomenal. I keep coming back to it, because it's endless options, it's a graphically gorgeous game. The options within every menu is outstanding. And at times, the gameplay can make you forget that you're playing a game.
I don't play any of the Neighborhood junk, or online, etc, so I can't even comment on those things. But as a single player, franchise guy, I'm pleading for 2k to tweak the CPU so it gives me a cheese free challenge, that doesn't use the cheesy tactics to either stop me, or smart enough to score on me without resorting to cheese.
I enjoy losing as long as I"m legit outplayed. If I sit down, and don't bring my A game, i wanted to lose. This stuff above though, is not great gameplay. It's cheesy AI. This is on Superstar (one of them may have been on all star) so the "ACE" should be in full effect, and not need to result to this junk. Watching the CPU adjust it's attack based on what I"m doing on defense is awesome, when it works, but if I continually cut it off, let me get the stop. Don't force the CPU to score through unnatural means. Have the CPU secede and hold that L.
Likewise, if I'm executing, and get the step on the guy, let me go into my animation. Don't force me to go into a stutter allowing the CPU to catch up and perform some cheesy "strip" animation.
Please 2k... the game could be great if you fix/remove these things. It's NOT needed.
I'm going to be looking for sliders, roster tweaks to see if this stuff can be eliminated (and to give the players a little more weight), and I truly hope that it can. I'd love to play this for multiple seasons. I'm engrossed in the game when it's playing well. Get rid of the stuff that infuriates me, there's truly no need for it.Twitter - WTF_OS
