    Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

Welp. This was at half time and I won't play the second half until tomorrow because after that first half I really didn't wanna play anymore.

I can understand them hitting contested 3s, as long as there is an effort by the AI to at least contest. But, when Richard Jefferson is running 10 feet off Mirotic to help Thompson when he doesn't need it, they're gonna feed Mirotic. I appreciate that the AI is better defending inside this year but does it have to be at the expense of defending the perimeter? Can we not have both? Other than that, only gripe was Jerian Grant hitting everything from mid with his 74 mid rating.

I'm marking this down as an anomaly. Defence has for the most part been stellar and this is my first game as a starter so I expected some baptism of fire ****.

Gameplay and animations blow 2k17 out of the water.. hopefully updates later down the road don't hurt the gameplay improvements.

I knew when 2K hired Czar a couple of years ago, that great things would come in the future.
I was hyped after reading OG´s and Czar´s blogs.
But damn, I didn´t expect this, not in my wildest dreams I thought they can make such a huge step in just one year.

The Gameplay is beautiful, just beautiful.
The game plays so smooth, the controls are so smooth and the AI is just that damn good.

I played every 2K since 2K3, except of 2K13 & 2K14, and this is the pinnacle and it´s not even close.
The last time a sports game had blow me away like 2K18 was Pro Evolution Soccer 4, which was my first PES.
Back then, coming from FIFA and ISS, the Gameplay was unreal for me, watching the Ball Physics, it was just one "holy ****" after another.
And I have the same feeling about 2K18.

I have just one problem with the game:
I´m so scared about the patches.
Don´t play video games, play Basketball

Is it my idea or the park has a lot less people this year? Last year we had 3 parks with 7 courts each and now I only noticed 6 courts in total. Will it be like that or am I missing something ?
Also has anyone any info on why the myrep system had disappeared this year? Will make the game more boring since as soon as you go 99 there will be no more progress to the player, while last year after reaching an adequate level in my career you had the objective to reach a high mypark rep

DO NOT CHANGE THIS GAMEPLAY WITH A PATCH.

DO NOT CHANGE THIS GAMEPLAY WITH A PATCH.

DO NOT CHANGE THIS GAMEPLAY WITH A PATCH.

I dabble in most of the modes in 2K, but Pro-Am with my squad is where the majority of my time is spent. It's for this reason that how the game plays against human opponents is of the utmost importance to me. NBA 2K17 was a fun game that I spent a lot of time with, but it had a ton of very frustrating issues. The poor rebounding logic and ridiculous zig zag screen game were probably my biggest beefs.

With that being said, NBA 2K18 is the game that I've been dreaming of. Relying on old reliable 2K tactics doesn't get the job done anymore. You have to actually play basketball to be successful (GASP!). I know that's probably something a lot of 2K players don't like seeing, but damn if it doesn't feel good. Shot contests actually mean something now. Screens aren't some supernatural force of nature anymore. There's just so many things that bring a smile to my face. This is a beautiful game to play.

I've already put a crazy amount of hours into 2K during the few days that it's been out now. The entire weekend all I heard from people in the party is how amazed and happy they were with how 2K18 plays. Instead of getting pissed off multiple times a game over nonsense mechanics like we were in 2K17, we're just having fun playing.

I'm deaf to gameplay complaints when it comes to online right now. If you can't stop anyone, you need to learn how to play defense because you can straight lock people up this year. If you can't score, you need to drop your 2K tactics and get it together. That's it.

Open shots go down at a good clip and contested shots don't. That's how it should be, and I don't have an issue with it. I've seen some deadly 3-point shooters this year, but the way they operate now doesn't compare to how it used to be. Since the screen cheese has been snuffed out, they have to work more. I've yet to see any of them do anything that didn't seem realistic.

This is how competitive basketball should be.

            End Rant.

Now that I've said all that I'm just gonna briefly chime in on My Career.

            1. The story and characters are awful. Please let us skip cutscenes.

            2. Playing on HOF, 12 minute quarters has been a very enjoyable experience. I don't mind playing the actual games because the CPU aren't idiots anymore.

That's all I have to say for now. As you were.

              Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

I can't be much happier with how this is playing. Can't recall enjoying how a 2K plays on day 1 as much as I've enjoyed 2K18 thus far.

I have had some serious beat downs (I play on Superstar/12 mins/offline). But definitely a case of getting re-acclimated to 2K basketball.

I've had a couple of wins (finally ) and the thing I'm taking away from it is the pace of the game. The way the AI is scoring is almost completely cheese free thus far (for me anyway). And as a nice little cherry on top, box scores look perfect IMO.

Sure there may be some things that aren't quite right, but I'm not naive enough to be expecting perfection. This is the best it's played on day 1 IMO since I can remember. So long as nothing game breaking is patched in, I can see myself playing 2K18 for a LOOOOOONG time.

Below are 2 screens of team stats (in the 2 wins).

                NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

I can’t make excuses for superstar difficulty anymore. The AI is cheap, plain and simple, at least when it comes to shooting.

Playing against the hornets, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrirst with his 41 3 PT rating just hit three contested corner threes in a row.

I’m talking hand in face, he does a stumbling animation when taking the shot, nothing but net swish shots from deep.

This is nonsense, and it’s happening with all kinds of horribly rated 3 point shot players. There’s no excuse for MKG to hit contested 3 point shots. I’m talking about smothering D, hand in the face 3 point shots.

Why? So the AI can stay in the game? I haven’t tried any other difficulty levels, but I’m so sick and tired of non shooting players making these fadeaway, contested hand in the face shots all the time, while I got Kyrie Irving missing wide open gimmes at the basket.

Might have to drop down to All Star because this is getting absolutely ridiculous

In 10 years at OS, i can't remember a time...majority of the 2k crowd was happy with gameplay!, props to the squad working on that side of the game....shame MyLeague hasn't had the successful launch we were hoping for to bring this whole game together!

Anyone else on Xbox one get a serious frame rate drop in MyCareer during the shootaround before games? Also slightly when you're on the bench watching?

I wonder how fluky it really is. I remember the OKC - Rockets video where Andre Roberson, a similar non-shooter was launching threes without hesitation (but in Roberson case at least he had games were he launched some).

MKG's career high in 3 point attempts is 2, and his career high in three pointers made is also 2 (per RealGM), his three points attempts last season were 0.1 (per Basketball Reference). We're not talking about some rookie who may improve, this is who he is. Even if he improves miraculously, right now, this moment he should be a very hesitant shooter who rarely takes and makes any three pointers.

Had a game with the Spurs and MAN.....! That was FUN!

REALLY enjoyed using Kawhi. Really like his new CF (beard).

Such a fun team to use (and I got beat BADLY). Enjoyment level through the roof. Great weapons on the roster. Great playbook. Defense is fun with the roster they have.

In previous 2Ks I've used the Spurs maybe once. The off Kawhi CF being one of the key reasons. The cosmetic stuff gets me in the door. The nuts and bolts stuff will keep me there.

                        Awesome stuff.

It’s getting SO frustrating too. He literally finished that particular game 4-5 from deep, and maybe one of those shots was wide open.

It sucks that you only get the full ACE affect on SS or HOF but the AI shooting is so cheap it’s not even worth the frustration.

I chalked it up as rare occurrences in the beginning, but the more and more I play, I’m seeing it every game from guys who have no business shooting the 3, or making these turn around fadeaway shots over two defenders and just swishing them in. I’ll be dropping down to All Star because I can’t handle it anymore [emoji23]
