Exactly , they even have a shot contest rating . I agree hand down man down like anybody ends but when I’m I’m playing great man defense and both hands up with. 6’5 guard with a 6’10 wingspan cpu and players shouldn’t connect on a high % that’s why Wang is turning the defense on shot contest .

If a guy is pulling up in front of me and I’m
Not respecting him by not playing defense I deserve to get drained.

Anyhow hand up contest ....check this out

        Per Mike:

We're going to see if we can improve the speed of getting hands up but it's a much more involved fix. If/when we can patch that, I'll be able to rollback the perimeter contest buff to what it previously was. But this hotfix was needed, too many bad shots were getting bailed out.

At least they're aware of it, so that's a big plus. I've noticed the slowness of the hands up animation, but I never gave it much thought since the overall game speed was slower.

Eh believe it or not I've been complaining since 2k12 maybe? I've been using manual hands up for a long time and everyone is just noticing now because everyone is forced to use it lol

I think this years game runs better offline, the way its programmed may favor the offline play this year. I may wait a couple games to see if they can ever balance this online play which they cant seem to, but until then il just stick offline now.

How many tine have we seen in the nba someonw gathering their shot and late close out i feel like those are what would be considered open shot cause the close out happens when the offensive player has almost release the ball

There's definitely a bit of hitch to the animations when you're closing out. There's always a split second of your guy moving his arm like he's transforming in power rangers. It just doesn't seem natural the way the arms move.

This isn't rec league at the local Y. These are the top 500 basketball players in the world. Some of these guys don't even care if there's a hand in their face when they shoot and you think they're going to have their shot contested with a guy standing 3 feet away with his hands down.
You're thinking of it in a vacuum. Of course I'm not saying a guy standing still with his hands at his sides is going to bother the shot. Don't think of it as being a contested shot then. Think of it as the player being defended. If we're talking strictly about shot quality, shooting with a player defending you is a more difficult shot than shooting an open shot, whether he gets his hands up or not. Is it incredibly likely that it's going to cause the shooter to miss? No, of course not. But it will have more of an effect than having no defender in front of him.

I disagree with that approach to shot quality grading. I would grade that situation as open (but not wide open). To register a contest, the defender should have to put his hand up or jump before the shooter releases the X button.

My ideal system for shot contests would be:
                      • no defender nearby = wide open

                      • defender nearby but he has his hands down & feet down = open

                      • defender nearby but his contest is late &/or his hand is at or below the shooter's chest level when the ball leaves the shooter's hand = lightly contested

                      • defender's hand is up before the ball leaves the shooter's hand and is at or above the shooter's eye level = heavily contested
smh your pics show how terrible the tuning is. they do this every year, cater to the casuals and kids crying. No way ppl should be getting contests after you get your gather together. Most ppl made myplayers with T Rex arms and wondered why they were not getting contests.

Is that shot registering as “lightly contested” the end of the world? Or does it just mean the shooter can’t green and backflip on his way down? If you’re telling me that that becomes a 50 percent shot rather than 100 percent green , then I’ll take it. Leave the greens for the super wide open looks if you’re not gonna get rid of them completely.

I actually got matched up with 3 Pure Sharps at 1-3 and a Slashing Sharp at the 5 and played a few games with them.

The first 2 games, the other teams were pretty bad defensively to put it mildly. I would honestly say at least 80% of the shots were wide open. The ones that were contested rarely dropped. They shot 64% and 62% from deep in those games.

The third game was a bit more competitive and they took a lot more contested shots and their percentage dropped to a measly 46%.

I would honestly rate these dudes as pretty average. They weren’t really creating their own shots - just capitalizing on bad defense. I think they were all in the 87-88 range so I would doubt they had HoF badges but they probably shot 70-75% on open looks from deep. I don’t think it’s crazy to say that a good to great player with max badges could shoot over 80% on open 3s. They also didn’t have anyone with dimer passing to them.

On the plus side, very few contested 3s dropped so it appears that was dialed down somewhat.

So one bad game now equals an overtuned fix? Would have to see vids of what “nearby” means
