Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here
I love a lot about the game outside of actual gameplay. The shorts length editor, the depth of jerseys, great CAP system, amazing selection of classic teams and classic players, etc.
I'm not loving the actual gameplay so far though. I feel like I'm spending a lot of time fighting the controls, so I imagine I may just need some time to acclimate. I'm struggling to find a flow and smooth freedom of movement that makes it feel like I'm actually playing basketball. Again, it may just take getting used to how 2K20 literally works (when not to turbo, how to actually play man defense against an opposing point guard without over-committing and sliding toward the sideline all night) but so far it's been rough, though with some good moments.
For the sake of brevity, three legacy issues I've grown pretty weary of:
-Foot sliding: Not the slight hover of a player clearly trying to execute a defensive slide. Rather, it's the times when an offensive player sets their foot 10 feet away from the hoop only for an animation to slide that foot three feet closer as a means of creating an easier shot animation or to draw a foul on a defender who was otherwise in good position. And generally speaking, foot-planting as a whole is just kind of ugly.
-Layup animations: I like the layup animations themselves but I'm frequently annoyed at the game's situational decision making. For instance, despite using the right input, I'm still seeing situations where the game makes my player attempt an off-hand layup toward a defender, infinitely over-complicating what should have been an easy point blank drop-in.
I'm also more annoyed than I should be at some of the layup release points. Both the CPU and myself have taken turns initiating layups that seemingly should lead to a couple of gather steps and a layup right at the rim. Instead, I'm seeing guys like Magic Johnson going through normal layup animations but releasing the ball, like, eight feet from the hoop. There's a lot of "far" layups at play.
-Fighting for control of my own player: I understand this falls under the guise of momentum but so far it feels like I'm spending a lot of time (sans turbo) just trying to get my players to run, turn, and pivot as I wish them to. Even accelerating still often has that classic ugly hitch to it where it almost looks like a player is hesitating before getting up to speed.
Generally speaking, I've only had the game for a few days so maybe it'd make more sense to chime back in a few weeks from now, but my gameplay against the CPU has felt chaotic and stunted. I've repeatedly had visions of a future in, like, 2K25, where gameplay is as smooth as it should be and we all look back in amazement for how we ever accepted 2K20's movement system.Last edited by VDusen04; 09-08-2019, 08:53 PM.Comment

The stamina penalty needs to be greater for constant dribbling and turbo mashing. If you aren’t going to implement good foot planting mechanics and players continue to slide every where on defense. Also the baseline blow by cheese needs to go. Otherwise I think the game is in a good spotComment

Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here
I changed Driving contact shot frequency down to 1 and the game opened up and is much more enjoyable.
There to many chase down blocks and 2 man quasi scripted contact layup animations. This was allowing the cpu to block and cause me to miss to many layups and at the same time limit my defense and allow them to make to many layups.
The cpu on HOF tries to beat you by controlling the animations. This has unlocked the game. And I haven't even touched the speed threshold/movement sliders yet.
Adjusting that 1 slider has made this an excellent release.Psn: Alabamarob

Not sure if this helps, but I was talking about this with someone earlier. You may be like me who since like, forever has held the stick down diagonally to finish at the rim.
This will now strictly give you gather finishes now, which used in the wrong context will often times get you blocked or take you out of position when you had a clean finish.
May not be your issue at all, but I know I had to reprogram a bit regarding my finishing.Comment

I feel like there has already been at least 1 stealth update, albeit not much.
The speed is definitely not like it was pre-release or even on day 1.
People need to be careful calling for patches and all kinds of stuff. Game really does feel goodComment

The game does feel good, but I find it extremely easy to drive for a layup using the baseline. It is basically unstoppable. I hope a small patch would address that issue even on the higher levels...Comment

Seems to me like there is less of a speed difference between the bigs and smalls. The big men are running alot faster then i remember. Is this what you speak of?Psn: Alabamarob

No, i notice things i didnt before period, like a little sliding when i go up over a defender that wasnt there before
...although bigs might be a tad faster i can still get by them, but yeah even quick bigs could get by slower bigs with the default game
To make matters worse
Mike was on someones stream talking about a speed and stamina buff coming tomorrow or some crap because theyre complaining online again
Im beginning to despise this community that applauds frauds and dont want to learn anything, then complain nothing changes.

Oh, come on, this is the kind of junk that I feared and that I was talking about. I don't want any speed or stamina buffs, I don't want a rehash of 2K19, the game was just fine on day 1. 2K needs to stop listening to YouTubers, dribble gods and Twitter casuals. We sim guys are also paying customers, why can't we have this one game?Comment
