Ditto. I just assumed that it was going to be basically NBA 2K20. I got my players maxed with gym rat, so I decided to stay there. Games are actually easier, because I think a good chunk of the tryhards bought NBA 2K21. I'm actually on a 10 game winning streak playing with only random. It was rare that I ever won 3 games in a a row.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Disappointed but not overly surprised they neglected improving Rec with the current-gen version of 2k21. The only "positive?" difference I notice is that time-outs are now anonymous, for a negative difference both teams stat averages now show 0.0s for the team introductions when last year only the white team showed 0.0s. I was hoping they would make team-mate grade less lenient particularly for egregious and/or repeated errors (like taking 10 bad shots in a row or not playing any defense), unfortunately teammate grade seems the same and if anything may even be slightly more lenient than 2k20.
With the tweaks to shooting, playing Rec with randoms is even harder, because most builds (more or less outside of pure sharps, play shots, and a few 3 &D builds) aren't viable from 3 so the spacing tends to be much worse. I have played several games where 3-4 players on my team couldn't shoot and the half court was totally clogged. Honestly the only way to even have a semi-enjoyable experience if you run without a squad in Rec is to go in as a pure red Paint Beast (or related defensive big man) and cap your overall at 92 to play in the lower-tier of Rec where you run into less squads.
If they do not do anything for Rec matchmaking for next-gen I have my doubts they will ever do anything... honestly the implementation of a max squad-sized base matchmaking seems so simple to me it is mind-boggling why they don't do something other than then 92 and below threshold.Last edited by Cardinal Sin; 09-16-2020, 01:25 PM.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Yes when you call a timeout it will say "Timeout white team" or something like that instead of "Timeout player's gamertag." I think it was designed so that people wouldn't know if someone was targeting them (e.g. about to go for a wide open dunk, or if they were over-dribbling) by calling a "bad" timeout.
I have mixed feelings about it, honestly if I ever call a timeout on you, I don't care if people know it was me since I have more patience than most, but if I see you dribbling around aimlessly for 20 seconds or see that you are missing someone wide open (consistently) I am going to call a timeout on you.Comment

I had a big that could shoot and drive. I would be WIDE open half the game EVERY game. The best part was that guy had Quick First Step HOF so even if they closed out i could get to the basket when i wanted. If they cut me out early im grabbing boards and playing D, but i wouldnt even come down offense half the time. LolComment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Well just played some 5v5 Pro Am and Rec. Shooting is officially back to being OP, to fuel yet another year of 4-1 or 5-out "meta" "basketball" where 'dribble gawds' dance around til they can trigger a lightning fast green 3.
Thanks Twitter Crybabies.. while Mike Wang hands you a pacifier.. or should I say, patchifier haComment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Yeah I’m not a big fan of the timeout change because I feel like, if anything, it encourages troll behaviour in players that might not engage in it if there name was attached to it.
But yeah, Rec feels more or less the same as last year. A previous poster is correct in that it’s made jump shots more difficult for builds with shooting as a secondary or third focus. So you don’t find slashers shooting 60% from 3 with a 74 3-ball which is a relief. On the other hand, it’s basically resulted in even less diversity in builds since 70% of guards seem to be playmaking shot creators. And for those builds shooting seems just as effective as ever.
I’ve said it forever but as long as off dribble 3s continue to be able to attain a 60%+ make rate, the meta will never change. With screens and online input lag, it never going to be particularly difficult for a competent dribbler to get open. There’s a reason NBA teams attempt so few pull up 3s. It’s not statistically a great shot. Yet I play teams that game plan their whole strategy around creating them.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Yup off the dribble 3s are the same bs as soon as people get their badges.
Silly how that has been left untouched.
Then again the cover boi makes a living out of that lol

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Never understood why they tune shooting at all in the first 2 months. Let everyone get their badges and find their jumpers BEFORE tuning it. Everyone expects shooting to be money right out the gate. You SHOULD have to adjust every year. Not improving is stagnation. If shooting is the same every year, how can the game get better?
Game has been out less than 2 weeks and they adjusted shooting?
Its really just irresponsible at this point. They do it to themselves.
If your child begs and begs for something, and you give it to them without earning it, they'll never stop begging for anything.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I mean, are you that naive to think it would be any different? They risk losing the casual players who spend and buy VC on new builds, animations, clothes, etc. You guys are the ones getting scammed every single year and then keep falling for the same thing over, and over, and over again. Lol
2K: "Guys please tell us how we should patch the game? What are you seeing? Is your hand in face contested shot now falling enough? Is your zero badge 65 3pt not greening enough? Is the game too hard for you? Do you need some training wheels with that? Do you need me to hold your hand? Is this game too much of a challenge for your little brain?".
But this is symptomatic of a bigger problem in society. Ima millennial and zoomers are even more of an entitled generation. Why should 2K be any different. Give this majority low iq casual 2K community what they want -- zero challenge. You see that with the bumhunters in Rec. You see that with the iq level of not learning basketball and just trying to get the shortcut. You see that with the NBA 2K League. You see that with the CONSTANT dumbing down the game to appease these bums.
I've lost all respect for Visual Concepts.Comment

Instead, everyone is building pure sharps and playmaking shots after starting the game with builds that would work in 2k20 because there is an exponential curve from mid-high 70s 3 ball to 90s 3 ball. Having played both I can tell you its night and day, literally going from crapshoot to near automatic on shooting.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
They haven't changed shooting AT ALL in rec since release except for the tweak to the aim point (which if anything makes it harder for those trying to use aiming).

Honestly all it would take to make the game way more balanced is to nerf the top end shooters to a reasonable level. It seems so obvious but I’m guessing they don’t want the social media backlash.
